"Journey to Find the Ideal Town Sushi Restaurant 1: Hakata Taro Sushi" May 6, 2023
I actually have a small appetite... I've had about 3 incidents of getting sick at high-end sushi counters, so I've decided to embark on a journey to explore town sushi restaurants where I can order a la carte dishes, maybe once a month. The first stop (who knows how long this will continue) is Hakata Taro Sushi in Maizuru. The main branch is in Kagoshima! There are two sushi chefs behind the counter, one being the head chef. While preparing sushi, the head chef converses with the customers, always keeping a warm gaze and attentively monitoring the atmosphere in the restaurant. I was surprised when the waitress or maybe a part-timer immediately attended to me as soon as I picked up the menu! Both the head chef and the waitress provide kind and polite service, which was very comforting. I had seared bonito tataki and a sushi platter (swordfish was amazing), as well as yam roll, wasabi eggplant (delicious), battera, and sea urchin. As expected from Kagoshima, they have a great selection of sweet potato and Amami black sugar shochu! With a bottle of beer, two servings of sake, and two shochu drinks, the bill was only 10,000 yen with change! A fair price! Despite the rain during my visit, my heart cleared up by the time I left, so I expressed my gratitude to the waitress and went back home in the rain feeling happy. #HakataTaroSushi #FukuokaGourmet #FukuokaSushi #FukuokaSushi #TownSushiRestaurant #TownSushi #Maizuru #MaizuruGourmet"

During the weekday lunch break, I went to "Hakata Tarosushi" for lunch. The restaurant is located on the first floor of a building at the corner of a small alley just off Oyafukodori Street from the Maizuru 1-chome intersection. It was 11:40 when I arrived. The seating consisted of 8 counter seats and 5 tables for 2 people each. There were 2 sushi chefs and 3 waitresses working. The restaurant was already about 40% full. I was seated at a counter seat since I was dining alone. I ordered the "Large Sushi Set - 13 pieces (1,350 yen, tax included)". The service time was about 5-6 minutes. The sushi chefs were energetic and there was a lively atmosphere with the staff greeting the entering and exiting customers cheerfully. The service was also very polite. The sushi set was served, with each piece being quite large. The rice was soft and slightly sticky. There seemed to be a lot of tuna in the selection of sushi. It would have been even better if there were explanations of the sushi toppings when they were served. The toppings were thick to match the volume of rice. The miso soup with fish broth was delicious, typical of a sushi restaurant. It was a great value for the amount of food you get. Overall, it was a good sushi restaurant experience.

On a regular day in the Tenjin and Maizuru area, I decided to have lunch a bit away from the crowded central area of Tenjin. I headed towards the Okamadako Street and visited a sushi restaurant called "Hakata Tarou Sushi" that had caught my eye before. It was just before 1 pm and the place was quite busy with only two seats available at the counter. I decided to go for a lighter option and ordered the "Nigiri Sushi (8 pieces)" for 950 yen. The set arrived in less than 5 minutes, consisting of 8 pieces of nigiri sushi, oshinko roll, salad, and red miso soup with fish. The types of fish were not explained, but I could identify buri, maguro, squid, battered fish, and tamagoyaki among others. The fish slices were surprisingly large and each piece had a satisfying taste. Usually, I am not a fan of squid at casual sushi restaurants, but this time it was fresh and had a nice texture. The maguro, buri, and white fish were all fresh and delicious, and I finished with the battered fish and tamagoyaki. The red miso soup with fish had big fish bones in it, adding to the overall satisfaction. Although the 13-piece set caught my eye, the 8-piece set was just right for my appetite. As I get older, I appreciate the convenience of a satisfying sushi lunch. Thank you for the meal.

Today, both my wife and I had the day off work. We went to try out Hakata Taro Sushi for lunch. We arrived at 11:45 and there were about 4 other groups of customers. By 12:00, the place was full. I ordered the deluxe sushi lunch for 1350 yen, while my wife had the seafood bowl for 950 yen. The portions were generous, the value for money was great, and overall it was an excellent lunch. We were very satisfied.

Today was technically my last day of work (working from home), so for lunch, my wife wanted sushi. We decided to go to Taro Sushi, which opened in September this year. It was quite busy, just as we had expected. Luckily, there was one two-person table available when we arrived, so we sat down right away. I thought there would be a lot of business people here, but the table next to us had tourists with suitcases. Last time, I had the seafood bowl for 950 yen, so this time I tried the sushi set for 950 yen. It was a great deal as it came with miso soup and salad. The fish was fresh and delicious. My wife only eats seafood bowls with vinegared rice, so she was happy that this place offers a choice of vinegared or white rice, which is rare in Fukuoka. We'll definitely be back next year!

"Hakata Taro Sushi" in Chuo-ku, Fukuoka City. This sushi restaurant opened on September 28th this year. It is located on a side street off Showa Street, just after turning left from Oyakotakado Street. When I visited during lunchtime, the place was almost full with customers coming in one after another. With over 2 months since opening and such a steady stream of customers, it's safe to say this place is popular. The interior is very clean and the sushi chefs' voices can be heard bustling about. The concept of Hakata Taro Sushi is to provide high-quality fish sourced from Nagahama Fresh Fish Market at affordable prices. The lunch menu includes seafood bowls and sushi sets (8 pieces of nigiri, 2 rolls) priced from 950 yen, which also come with miso soup and salad. I tried the premium nigiri set (with miso soup and salad) for 1,900 yen and a chawanmushi (limited to 10 servings) for 300 yen. The set included sea urchin, salmon roe, fatty tuna, lean tuna, shrimp, flounder, sea bream, shrimp, and tamago. Each piece was fresh and generously sized, with a perfect balance of fish and rice. The miso soup was also delicious with a rich broth. The sushi rice is made with Isami rice from Kagoshima, the owner's hometown, which remains tasty even when cold. This is a casual sushi restaurant where you can enjoy a quick and satisfying lunch. Highly recommended. Enjoyed the meal. Thank you!

Sashimi set meal is delicious restaurant search ⑧ It's been a while since I planned to have a sashimi set meal. Lately, I've been eating seafood bowls instead of sashimi set meals. On this day (weekday), I had lunch at a sushi restaurant located about 10 meters from Oyakou-dori. I happened to find this sushi restaurant on the web yesterday, and it seems to have opened at the end of September. Of course, there is no parking lot, so I parked at a coin parking lot and arrived around 12:40. There was no one waiting, but the restaurant was full, so I waited for about 5 minutes before entering. Since it has just opened, the interior was very clean. It really felt like a "sushi restaurant". The restroom was also clean!
- Sashimi set meal 1,300 yen
- Seafood bowl 950 yen (for my wife)
- Non-alcoholic beer 440 yen
The sashimi set meal had 6 types of fish. They were all delicious, especially the medium fatty tuna. The miso soup was also delicious. However, the amount of wasabi was small, and the soy sauce on the table was empty, which was disappointing. The seafood bowl seemed to have delicious fish, but the vinegared rice was a bit soggy, which was a shame. Nevertheless, I think the cost performance in Tenjin is fantastic. Paid with PayPay, total 2,690 yen. Thank you for the meal!

I went to a new sushi restaurant near Tenjin that seems to have recently opened. The interior of the new restaurant is clean and has a nice atmosphere. I quickly checked the menu (all prices include tax) and ordered the Assorted Sushi (1,700 yen) with an additional Deluxe Red Miso Soup (300 yen). Unfortunately, they were out of red miso soup, so I changed it to the Deluxe Miso Soup. The sushi set included eight pieces of sushi, egg, salad, and miso soup. The sushi toppings were bream, fatty tuna, sea bream, seared scallop (back row), red sea bream, sea urchin, shrimp, and salmon roe (front row). The salad arrived first, followed by the miso soup. The bream sushi had a nice texture with a thick cut. The fatty tuna was delicious with a generous amount of fat. The seared scallop was slightly seared and had a sweet and fragrant taste. The shrimp was a bit watery, which was a bit disappointing. The fatty tuna was delicious, and the seared red sea bream had a large piece of meat that was satisfying to eat. The sea urchin and salmon roe were both delicious. The miso soup had a lot of fish scraps in it, making it quite filling. Before leaving, I noticed another customer ordering a medium fatty tuna rice bowl, which was not on the menu but available for 1,300 yen. I will try that next time. Overall, it was a very satisfying and affordable meal.

Newly opened #Hakata Taro Sushi {Maizuru, Chuo-ku, Fukuoka City} October 16, 2022 (Sunday) I went to Hakata Taro Sushi. This place is located just a short walk from Showa Street onto Oyakou Street, turning left at the first corner. The photo in front shows Oyakou Street. This new restaurant opened on September 28th. It is not a conveyor belt sushi restaurant, so I thought it might be expensive, but looking at the menu at the storefront, it was quite reasonable. I aimed for nigiri sushi and seafood bowl. You can choose between white rice or vinegared rice for the seafood bowl. Furthermore, rice bowls and set meals come with free extra rice. I also took a photo of the alcohol menu. I ordered the seafood bowl for 950 yen (tax included). I asked for extra white rice. It came with a vegetable salad and red miso soup. The red miso soup had plenty of fish scraps, giving it a rich flavor. The tamagoyaki, shrimp, pickles, and other items looked very delicious. The fresh sashimi from Nagahama Market was thick and glossy. It was very fresh, fatty, and incredibly delicious. With the extra rice, it was a very satisfying lunch. 1-9-3 Maizuru, Chuo-ku, Fukuoka City Closed on Sundays and holidays. Lunch is also closed on Wednesdays and Saturdays.

A sushi restaurant opened on a small alley off Oyako-dori on 9/28. I found out about it on SNS and visited without a reservation. The interior has counter seats and table seats, creating a calm atmosphere. The lunch menu includes a large sushi set (1,350 yen including tax) which is equivalent to 1.5 servings of the 950 yen set (including rolls). I opted for smaller rice portions. The 11-piece sushi set included tuna, mackerel, sea bream, shrimp, bonito, and more. The rice was seasoned with rice vinegar. The salad consisted mainly of cabbage with sesame dressing. The miso soup had fish scraps in it, adding to the flavor. Overall, the taste was average, with the bonito and sea bream standing out. The prices are reasonable, making it a good option for a casual sushi meal. The evening menu allows for ordering individual pieces, making it a good choice for a light meal.

I visited a sushi restaurant that opened at noon yesterday. It's located near my office, so I decided to give it a try. They had a sign outside saying "Lunch available", but I was a bit nervous about the prices. However, I was pleasantly surprised to find that they offered sushi and seafood bowls starting from 950 yen. I had been a little disappointed with the seafood bowl I had in Nagahama yesterday, so I decided to try it here. When it arrived, I was impressed by the beautiful presentation and generous portion size. It even came with miso soup and salad! The seafood bowl included octopus, amberjack, horse mackerel, medium fatty tuna, seared Spanish mackerel, and a mix of tuna and squid. There was a generous amount of toppings. I was thrilled to discover a truly delicious and reasonably priced sushi restaurant in Tenjin. I will definitely be back!

The atmosphere was really nice, the service was great, and the sushi was delicious. Not to mention, the chawanmushi, tamagoyaki, and Thai simmered dish were also incredibly tasty!

A new sushi restaurant that is easy to enter. It's not a rotating sushi place, nor is it a high-end restaurant, but just right with a casual atmosphere. The side menu is very extensive and the ebi fry is a must-try! The fish is also delicious, of course. Sushi restaurants are supposed to be this easygoing. It's great to have a good restaurant like this. ^_^

Great sushi restaurant with excellent cost performance! The whale bacon I had was the least gamey and most delicious I've ever had. The sashimi is affordable and delicious, comparable in cost to major chain restaurants but much better quality. Definitely recommend going here! The non-rotating sushi is affordable and delicious, especially the battera - you must try it! ^_^

This is a very cozy and calm restaurant with a great atmosphere. It would be perfect if they stayed open a bit later since they just opened. The crab miso tofu is absolutely delicious ❤︎
