Recently, a restaurant called "Gyoza no Manchuria" has been popping up in various areas near train stations. As the name suggests, they specialize in gyoza, so gyoza lovers can have high expectations. This restaurant is located just a few minutes' walk from Toyonaka Station on the Hankyu Takarazuka Main Line, almost right in front of the station. The interior of the restaurant is spacious and large. In addition to regular table seating, there are also counter seats for solo diners. Orders are placed using tablets at the tables.
[Pan-Fried Gyoza (230 yen)] This is a must-order item. The gyoza is slightly larger in size, with a nice crispy texture on the skin. When you bite into it, you'll notice that the skin is on the thicker side, with a chewy texture that lingers in your mouth. The filling consists of wheat flour, pork, and vegetables, all 100% domestically sourced, making it a gyoza with a higher ratio of wheat flour in the skin. Unfortunately, the filling is a bit lacking in flavor, with the sweetness of the vegetables and the umami of the pork not being very pronounced. If you happen to walk into a Chinese restaurant in town and order gyoza even though no one else is ordering, this would be decently tasty. However, as a gyoza specialty shop, this falls a bit short of expectations.
[Steamed Gyoza (3 pieces, 180 yen)] Since this is the same gyoza as the pan-fried version, expectations weren't high. However, these were surprisingly tasty. The thick skin absorbs the broth, becoming soft, and even after being simmered, it holds its shape well while also absorbing the soup inside, resulting in the skin having the perfect softness. Compared to the pan-fried version, the steamed gyoza was definitely more delicious.
[Bean Sprout Ramen (510 yen)] This ramen is packed with bean sprouts and other vegetables. The soup is on the lighter side, but it's decent.
[Spicy Kimchi Fried Rice Set (780 yen)] My companion ordered this and found it to be quite ordinary with no standout features. Despite being a gyoza specialty shop, the gyoza falling short of expectations and the other food items being average without any distinctive qualities left a disappointing impression. It's uncertain if my visit was just a one-off experience or if it simply didn't suit my personal taste. Let's hope for the latter.
