I didn't know that reservations could be made for lunch, so I lined up 30 minutes before opening. Although I am a local, I had never tried the spicy soba before, so I visited Hoisen, which is the only restaurant in the Phoenix series that is not closed on regular holidays. The main dish was the spicy soba, but the portion was smaller than I had imagined, so I ordered some shumai as well. The spicy soba had a mild and gentle flavor. The shumai was also delicious. The prices were reasonable overall, so I would like to try other menu items next time.

I visited for lunch on Sunday. There was no parking lot, so I had to wait in line outside the nearby coin parking shop for about 30 minutes. It was still hot even though summer had passed. I ordered the Karashi Soba for 880 yen including tax and the Shumai for 550 yen including tax. The Karashi Soba was delicious, and the Shumai had a crispy texture with a good bite to it. It was tasty. Thank you for the meal!

Yes, let's go to Kyoto! Vol.27 On the second day of the three-day weekend. After visiting Kiyomizu-Hachimangu Shrine, I moved to Sanjo and came here to eat spicy soba. I arrived 10 minutes before opening. There were already 10 people waiting, and soon another 10 lined up behind me. It turns out there were also 10 reservations. But I just made it in time to enter. I came to eat spicy soba, but here at this restaurant, it's called "Ebi Kashisoba 880 yen". I can't read the kanji at all, but the Japanese translation is a bit mysterious. The atmosphere inside the restaurant is like a local Chinese eatery, but the menu is authentic Chinese cuisine. Maybe this is a great place. When the dish arrived, the mystery was solved. The ingredients included shrimp, chicken, lettuce, green onions, and shiitake mushrooms. It's a stir-fried soba with a slightly spicy flavor and aroma. It's very delicious! Customers were ordering various dishes like shumai, spring rolls, and Cantonese noodles. I'm sure everything here is delicious. I enjoyed my meal today as well. Thank you for the delicious food.

I went out with my spouse for the first time in a while and visited this restaurant for dinner. The spring rolls we ordered first were absolutely delicious, and my spouse, who was visiting for the first time, was also very impressed! We also ordered stir-fried pork with wood ear mushrooms, sweet and sour pork, spicy noodles, and white rice, and everything was really delicious. Even as I write this, I feel like I want to eat it again! The flavors are a step above other Chinese restaurants. I definitely want to come back! 😊

Shrimp and chicken soba (with lomen) for 880 yen. Dumplings for 550 yen. The mustard that perfectly clears your sinuses in the shrimp and chicken soba! The dumplings are meaty and delicious! You can hardly feel the skin! It was a very satisfying lunch.

Many people from the Kanto region may be thinking of visiting Kyoto, but not many may be considering going for Chinese food. However, there is a hidden gem of Kyoto Chinese cuisine here. It's best to walk from Kyoto City Hall Station, but I walked about 10 minutes from Sanjo Keihan to get here. Let's start with some dumplings and a bottle of beer. The delicious dumplings, where the flavor of the meat is maximized, will make you crave for more beer. Just trust me and try them out. And when the lo mein arrives, take a bite first before adding mustard and vinegar for a refreshing and light taste, creating a paradise in your mouth. A must-try when you visit Kyoto!

In Sakai, they had a Karashi Soba similar to Hiyashi Chuka, but here they had a Karashi Soba similar to Ankake Yakisoba. I also tried the spring rolls in Maiko style for the first time and they were delicious. The Shumai at this restaurant had a generous amount of filling and a very enjoyable texture. It's usually very crowded, but when we arrived about an hour before closing, we were lucky to find it not too busy. However, they started closing up about 30 minutes before closing time, so I thought it could be risky to go too close to closing. Every dish we tried was incredibly delicious! ✨✨✨

In the subway, it is a 6-minute walk from the escalator at Kawaramachi Square in Zest Oike to the Kyoto City Hall Station. By city bus, it is about a 3-minute walk from Kyoto City Hall. The restaurant is spacious, with a few groups of 4 and about 7 people waiting just before opening on a weekday. It is recommended to arrive early as the wait time can increase. The staff will guide you to your designated table, where you can browse the menu with photos or a stand-up menu. The dim sum is cash only. The review includes the following dishes: - Steamed Dumplings (¥550): The dumplings are quickly served, with a cute mushroom-shaped appearance and a delicious filling. The thin skin and generous amount of meat are highlights. - Shrimp and Cashew Nut Soba (¥880): A delicious soba dish with a gentle sauce and a hint of spiciness inside the noodles. The dish features medium-thick straight egg noodles, shrimp, chicken, shiitake mushrooms, and lettuce. The balance of flavors and textures is impressive. Overall, the restaurant offers a variety of options in the area, such as tea at Ippodo, canelé on the 5th floor of a building, traditional Japanese sweets from Matsuya, browsing books at Seikosha, relaxing at Kyoto Machiya cafe, or enjoying a drink at Kamogawa Cafe.

After leaving the well-established French restaurant, Bouchon, and taking along my bewildered niece, we entered the nearby restaurant, Hozen, and ordered spring rolls, bottled beer, and soup. I love these Kyoto-style spring rolls with finely chopped bamboo shoots, chives, and shiitake mushrooms. The surface is slightly rough and crispy, not too crunchy, but more flaky. It goes perfectly with the bottled beer. The niece enjoyed the spring rolls and soup, both with a gentle and delicious flavor that made her smile. I thought about trying the famous shiso soba as well, but it seemed a bit too much. I highly recommend doing a lunch crawl like this. I wish you could try this in Tokyo too.

I visited a popular Chinese restaurant in Kyoto during the Bon festival. I arrived just before 7 pm and managed to get in, as they close at 8 pm. If you plan to go in the evening, it's best to line up by 6:45 pm to ensure entry. The turnover is fast, so you won't have to wait too long. If you line up at 5 pm, you're likely to get in on the first round. The spicy soba was delicious, and the yakisoba looked appetizing. The sweet and sour pork had lychee in it, giving it a sweet flavor. The spring rolls and fried rice were recommended. The stir-fried mushrooms and pork and the century egg were authentic and tasty. It was delicious.

This is a shop I have been looking forward to for a long time. Their spring rolls and shumai are famous, especially the shumai which often sells out. Luckily, I was able to try them this time. Each one is big and very juicy. Once you try their spring rolls, you won't feel like eating them anywhere else. The yakisoba, which I love, was also delicious as always, and I pledged to visit again. The only downside is that if you don't line up about 15 minutes before opening, it's tough to get in right away. But it's definitely worth the wait!

I finally got to visit the place I've been wanting to go to try their spicy soba. It was conveniently located across from my hotel, so I had the soba there while getting takeout for my family. We got 2 servings of fried rice, 2 servings of spring rolls, 2 servings of steamed dumplings, and yakisoba. The spring rolls were not fried, which I like, so I shared them with everyone. The popular steamed dumplings and yakisoba were delicious, everyone enjoyed them.

I planned to have lunch in front of the city hall, but they don't serve lunch on weekends, so I decided to go to Hozen instead. There is usually a long line, but luckily I was the only one there this time. I ordered shumai, spring rolls, century egg, and shrimp with cashew nut noodles. The cashew nut noodles had a gentle flavor typical of Kyoto, with a spicy kick that made it refreshing to eat. I haven't seen cashew nut noodles at many other places, so I recommend trying it. I will definitely visit again.

The pioneer of Kyoto-style Chinese cuisine, popularly known as the Hien or Houmu lineage, is the restaurant "Housen" established in 2009. Menu items include Lo Mein (¥770), Shumai (¥550), Leek and Yellow Chive Spring Rolls (¥1100), among others. I visited on July 19, 2023. Kyoto is home to many century-old restaurants, but when it comes to Chinese cuisine, the first in Kyoto was "Chinarestaurant Hamamura" established in 1924. The head chef, Koka Kichi, showed exceptional skill. Today, just like Buddha, with unique skills, we continue the story. The renowned Shumai and spring rolls are served with Oolong tea. Now, onto the "Lo Mein," which is actually known locally as Ebi Kashisoba. However, according to the locals, it's called "Ro-men" in gentle Kyoto dialect.

Located right near Kyoto City Hall, this Chinese restaurant in Kyoto serves a dish called Ebi Kashisoba, which is essentially a spicy soba noodles dish. Unlike typical spicy soba, the spiciness in this dish is quite subtle. The gentle aroma of mustard tickles your nose, but you won't feel much heat. The combination of peeled shrimp, chicken, and lettuce is a classic for spicy soba. It was delicious. Thank you for the meal.

I visited the restaurant with my boss and colleague for the first time, and I was shocked by how delicious the spring rolls were. We also ordered sweet and sour pork, fried chicken, fried rice, grilled chicken skewers, yakisoba, and mustard noodles, and everything was really delicious! I definitely want to come back again!

I went to lunch with three friends. The restaurant was crowded even before it opened, with people lining up outside. We had made a reservation so we were seated right away, but there were still customers waiting outside when we left. We ordered the "gyoza," "spring rolls," and "kashiwa soba" as well as pork tempura and fried rice. Everything was delicious with a gentle flavor. The "kashiwa soba" was especially tasty with its thick sauce and thin noodles. The owner advised us to order everything at once because additional orders might take a while, so we didn't order more. Since there were customers waiting outside, we decided to finish our meal quickly. Our total time at the restaurant was only 35 minutes, a new record for us. Normally, we would eat, drink, and chat leisurely, but this time our focus was solely on eating, and we were completely satisfied. The food wasn't greasy like typical Chinese cuisine, so we could have eaten more. Maybe we should have ordered more at the beginning! Haha, thank you for the meal!

At the intersection of Kawaramachi and Nijo in Kyoto stands a noticeable line. The famous Kyoto restaurant "Hosen" always has a line. I visited here where Fukutomi, a member of the Kyoto-born band Homecomings and the PR director for Kyoto cuisine, claims it has the best gyoza in Japan. I waited in line for about 20 minutes with around 15 people. I tried the gyoza (550 yen) and shrimp yakisoba (880 yen). Let's start with the gyoza. The thin skin filled with plenty of meat is a masterpiece. The meaty and crispy texture is truly delicious. And because of the thin skin, it doesn't get soggy even when it cools down. A very sophisticated gyoza. They also offer takeout, so I'll bring some back next time. And then the shrimp yakisoba... I thought it was soup noodles, but it turned out to be shrimp yakisoba. The crunchy lettuce and the sauce mixed well with the noodles. Oh, this is the famous Karashi soba! A noodle dish from Kyoto with mustard mixed in. I knew about it, but I never thought I'd try it because I don't like Japanese mustard. But unintentionally, I ended up eating it. However, it wasn't as spicy as I thought, and aside from the occasional kick of mustard, it was actually quite delicious. I came here for the gyoza, but the most popular dish is the spring rolls. I'll definitely come back. Thank you for the meal!

Located right near Kyoto City Hall and the Bank of Japan Kyoto Branch!! It's about a 15-minute leisurely walk from Keihan Sanjo Station... I arrived a little after opening and there was already a line, waited for about 30 minutes to get in!! We were seated at a table. We ordered: 2 orders of shumai for 550 yen each, 2 orders of spring rolls for 1100 yen each, 2 orders of fried rice for 660 yen each, and 1 order of shrimp and cashew nut soba for 880 yen (spicy soba). What surprised me was how fast the food came after ordering!! It was not pre-made, but freshly made and served piping hot!! The shumai had thin skin with lots of meaty flavor packed inside. The spring rolls had a crispy skin and a subtle bamboo shoot aroma. Makes you want to have a beer... The fried rice was a bit oily but fluffy and the ingredients were large and delicious. The spicy soba wasn't actually spicy, more like a noodle dish with a savory sauce on top, very easy to eat and tasty!! The sauce on top of the fried rice made it even more delicious!! Thank you for the meal!!

Visited with a friend on Saturday around 18:50. Luckily, there was an available table as others were being turned away after us. We quickly ordered two bottles of beer, pickled vegetables, spring rolls, shumai, shrimp and chicken soba, and chicken karaage as we felt the closing time approaching. The beer, pickled vegetables, and shumai arrived promptly, so we made a toast. The shumai here has a great crunchy texture and juicy meat filling. The pickled vegetables had a nice salty flavor, perfect as a side dish. Next came the spring rolls, with a thin crispy skin and finely chopped ingredients like mushrooms, providing a unique taste. The shrimp and chicken soba had a good dashi flavor with plenty of shrimp, enhancing the overall taste. Adding vinegar was a nice touch. The chicken karaage had a light crispy coating and a mild seasoning, easy to eat but better with some salt and pepper when paired with beer. The table had various condiments like soy sauce, mustard, salt, pepper, and vinegar for customizing the flavors. We were asked for last order around 19:10 and everything was cleared by 19:30, even though the closing time was stated as 20:00. The determination to close on time was evident. The food was delicious, so if you plan to visit for dinner, it's best to come earlier.
