I have been living in Kyoto for a long time, so I felt like eating Kyoto ramen. I ordered the Kyoto chicken and tonkotsu ramen for lunch, which came with a set of gyoza, fried chicken, and rice for 940 yen excluding tax. After ordering, I noticed that they also had a new Kyoto light soy sauce ramen on the menu. This ramen has a strong animal-like scent. It combines the chicken aroma of Tenka Ippin with the rich tonkotsu ramen scent... It's a taste that some people will love, while others may not. The collagen-rich white broth has a thick texture. There are fine pieces of lard floating on top. The scent is intense, but the taste is not too heavy, and the aftertaste is light and refreshing. The lard doesn't form a film on the soup. The soy sauce flavor is smooth and delicious. The noodles are medium-thin straight noodles, topped with green onions and chashu. The chashu is a meltingly tender pork belly. It was about half the size of the menu photo. If you love chashu, you might be happier adding extra chashu for 250 yen excluding tax. There are other toppings available, such as flavored egg for 100 yen excluding tax. Personally, it reminded me of Goku Ramen that used to be in Kyoto. The chain had several locations (nostalgic sigh...). In my youth, I foolishly attempted a big eater challenge, but the animal-like white broth, the heat burning my mouth, and the inability to finish in time led to a bitter defeat... I slowly finished the rest and paid, a bittersweet memory of my youth (bitter smile). The fried chicken was juicy chicken thigh meat with a crispy yet soft coating. The gyoza was plump with plenty of meat and vegetables. Additionally, Yottekoya is a brand of Eat and, owned by Osaka Ohsho. One of the customers, either a regular or a staff member dining privately, was seen cleaning up the dishes and wiping the tables. In the kitchen, a male staff member was cooking, while the female staff members were taking orders, serving, and handling payments. It was lunchtime, and I hesitated to sit at the counter, but there were about three empty seats, with some dishes on the tables. I finally decided to sit at a table for one, feeling unsure. Soon, customers sat at both sides, a group of three high school boys and two teachers, it seemed. I overheard their conversations, and the tables were all full. I worried about what would happen if a large group arrived before I finished eating (at that time, there were also some empty seats at the counter). There is a student discount available. As expected, the high school boys with hearty appetites were enjoying dishes like the large portion fried rice set. The restroom has a Western-style toilet. The faucet in the washbasin is stylish but leaks even when tightly closed due to deteriorating gaskets. I'd like to replace the gaskets! (I can do the repair work, by the way). There was a fancy hand soap like Shabonette or Alboess, and paper towels available. Thank you for the meal.
