In recent years, after seeing the OSAKA Festival of Lights Renaissance, I used to come to the illumination event held in the festival square of Hankyu Umeda to enjoy the beautiful illuminations. However, this year, due to the influence of the coronavirus, the projection mapping at the Central Public Hall has been canceled. So, I decided to visit Hankyu Umeda only. The performance is the same as last year, with the theme of "The Nutcracker" playing in the background. Please enjoy the beautiful illuminations created with sparkling mirror balls and lights. Currently, the cafes at Hankyu Umeda are competing with each other by offering Christmas sweets, such as cakes, for their Christmas Sweets Special. Among them, I visited Kanmi Koyori to try their Hojicha Noel, which looked very cute. Kanmi Koyori is located on the 9th floor where the festival square is, and it is an open-style Japanese-style cafe. With white wooden furniture and traditional lanterns with incandescent light bulbs, it has a bright and modern Japanese atmosphere. I sat at a table and ordered a coffee for 1,100 yen, while my family ordered Zenzai for 790 yen. Soon, the Zenzai and Hojicha Noel were served. The Hojicha Noel consisted of a tree made of cream mixed with hojicha to create a brown Noel, green cream mixed with matcha, a Santa made of strawberries and whipped cream, a cookie house, and a plate decorated with black honey sauce, kiwi, grapefruit, and orange fruits. Taking a bite with a fork - the tea-flavored cream was refreshing and had a subtle sweetness, lighter than Western-style sweets. It can be eaten lightly with the fluffy sponge. The citrus fruits added a refreshing flavor. The sweetness of the black honey and the cinnamon from the cookie were nice accents. The Santa made of strawberries was almost too cute to eat. Enjoying such a unique Christmas cake at a Japanese sweets shop, along with the illuminations, made me feel warm and cozy in the Christmas spirit.
