Cake House Shiki is a gift from Buzen... I received a "Shiki Roll" from Cake House Shiki as a souvenir from Buzen. This was my first time trying a Buzen roll cake, or any cake from Buzen for that matter (^_^;) Surprisingly, I quite liked the taste. The sponge was fluffy and moist, and the fresh cream was delicious!! It was a bit of a pleasant surprise♪ I don't often have the chance to visit Buzen, but if I do, I would definitely make the effort to visit this cake shop♪+++++++++++++++++++++Cake House Shiki188-10 Kishii, Buzen City, Fukuoka079-84-0304Closed on Tuesdays and Wednesdays+++++++++++++++++++++

This time, I will introduce "Cake House Shiki," which is quite popular in the Toyotake area. As you drive past the Toyotake Bypass (currently National Route 10) and head towards Kamimachi, you will see a yellow shop along the road. The shop has a signboard featuring their signature roll cake, making it easy to spot. Since this area is not easily accessible by public transportation, the shop has a spacious parking lot. Although the shop itself is small, it always has customers coming in. Some customers even come from far away to visit.
Petit Roll Cake: This is a half-size version of the shop's signature Shiki Roll. The sides are coated with whipped cream, which is a distinctive feature. Imagining what's inside from the appearance, it seems like there is a generous amount of cream... When you cut into the sponge, you can feel the delicate sweetness and the flavor of eggs. The whipped cream has a smooth texture and a not-too-sweet taste. Since it's a half-size, it's perfect for when you just want a little treat. The regular size comes in a chic black box, making it a great souvenir. They also sell it at the Toyotake Roadside Station.

During the New Year's greetings rounds, I stopped by a shop about a month ago. The shop had a signboard for roll cakes, so I bought one. I don't remember the exact price as I lost the receipt, but I remember it wasn't too expensive. What was unique about this roll cake was that it had whipped cream spread on both sides. While some roll cakes have an excessive amount of cream, the Four Seasons Roll had just the right amount that complemented the fluffy sponge cake. They also sold a convenient one-cut size for 198 yen. There was also a cake shaped like an apple, although I don't remember its name. It had a mousse covering the apple inside, with a solid cookie base that prevented it from falling apart. The topping was perhaps a raspberry sauce, and I tried a bite which was delicious. The shop also had "Angel's Treat Pieshoo" cream puffs, which were a combination of pie and choux pastry filled with rich custard cream. The size and volume were impressive, and the presentation with custard cream and powdered sugar resembled an angel. I recommend trying the Pieshoo for 168 yen. If the shop is nearby, it's a great choice for souvenirs or gifts. As for eating a large cream puff, I wonder how others do it. Men might just take a big bite, but I prefer cutting it in half and scooping the cream onto the choux pastry. Of course, this method can get messy, but it's my preference. I also bought a chiffon cake as a souvenir, so I can't provide feedback on that, but it had a sprinkling of coarse sugar on the surface. The shop is located on Shida Road towards Nakatsu, and it's easily recognizable by its yellow exterior. They have a spacious parking lot as well. The staff happily agreed to take photos, and I would like to thank them for their hospitality. I would definitely visit this shop again when passing through the Buzen area.

On July 24th, I visited the restaurant for lunch and ended up overeating, so I wanted to have some dessert to cleanse my palate on the way home. I bought ripe peach parfait, almond jelly with white peach, molten chocolate & rare cheese, and a mini roll. The ripe peach parfait had blueberry mousse inside with sponge cake and jelly at the base. The peach itself wasn't very ripe, but the combination with the refreshing mousse was very easy to eat. The almond jelly with white peach had almond tofu topped with mango jelly and white peach, with syrup on the side. It looked fancy but was a bit difficult to eat, with a mild sweetness that I liked, although I personally felt the syrup was unnecessary. The molten chocolate & rare cheese was a trendy souffle type dessert. I realized I had consumed too many calories today, so I'll have to restrain myself tomorrow...
On November 26, 2010, I planned to have pasta and dessert for lunch but ended up having Japanese noodles instead, so I couldn't have dessert. Feeling a bit frustrated, I was driving to Kitakyushu when I spotted a restaurant that used to have long lines of customers in the past. I parked my car and went in. I bought a half-size mini roll, Caramel Halloween, and Pudding a la Mode. The mini roll had a layer of cream all over the cross-section, which made it a bit overwhelming. The sponge cake and cream were rich in flavor, especially the sponge cake, which tasted like high-quality Nagasaki castella. It felt a bit heavy for me. The Pudding a la Mode had a lightly sweet pudding with rich cream. The Caramel Halloween was quite sweet with caramel and plain Bavarian cream, slightly balanced out by fruits but still heavy in flavor. It might be good for younger people, but overall, I felt it was a bit too heavy for an old man like me.

Today, in the middle of work, I stopped by to buy a souvenir and bought a custard pudding for my 3 o'clock snack. It was not too sweet, just the right amount, and I was very satisfied. Next, I want to go play at the playground and try various cakes. ★Added★ On October 12th, I visited Shiki and saw a notice that said, "Starting in November of Heisei 20, we will be closed every Tuesday and Wednesday."

This shop is located along the Buzen Bypass (current National Route 10). It is a popular shop in the Buzen area, including Kyushu, Nakatsu, and Yukuhashi. The shop itself is small, but even on the weekday afternoon when I visited, there were already several customers inside. They have about 20 types of cakes, mostly priced in the 300 yen range. The cakes are quite large. They use local fruits and produce in their sweets, known as the "Four Seasons Brand". Many of the cakes in the showcase had plenty of fruits on top. This time, I bought a chocolate cake and a rare cheesecake since I couldn't find the cream cakes I used to enjoy. The rare cheesecake had a smoother texture than any other I've had before, which was a pleasant surprise. Overall, I don't think the cakes are sophisticated, but they are worth the price.

A cake shop with a good reputation on another website. It's located along the bypass connecting Kitakyushu and Oita, so it's easy to find. I had the strawberry mille-feuille. The kids had chocolate cake. The pie was crispy, the custard was rich, and it was just delicious!! I was pleasantly surprised by the deliciousness of the cream. If I have the chance, I would definitely like to visit this shop again.

I have always enjoyed making sweets as a hobby, so my husband and I consider ourselves to be quite strict when it comes to evaluating desserts. However, I believe this shop deserves a perfect score of 100 points. Not only does it have a dreamy and charming appearance, but the balance of flavors is also perfect. Some cakes tend to focus too much on appearance, resulting in a poor balance of flavors, but not at Shiki. It excels in both appearance and taste, giving off the impression of "this is the taste of a true pastry chef." Even at the nearby Michi-no-Eki, Toyofront Okoshikake, they sell Shiki's roll cakes and pudding, which I always make sure to buy when I stop by.
