Visited Curry Shikatan Hikaru Store again to challenge the extra-large portion! Last time, I had the special portion which wasn't enough, so this time I am trying the extra-large size for the first time. The restaurant has two counter seats and two table seats, and this time I sat at a table. You can help yourself to water, and payment can be made using PayPay. This curry specialty store from Shimonoseki offers only one type of curry, where you can customize the quantity and spiciness with your choice of toppings. This time, I went for my usual toppings - the strongest curry with a size upgrade to extra-large, normal spiciness, and toppings of tonkatsu, croquette, and fried chicken. The extra-large portion is 4 times the regular portion (300g of rice), so just the rice alone is 1.2kg. With the curry roux and toppings added, I estimate it to be around 1.8kg, but since I easily finished the special portion last time, I confidently ordered the extra-large. I also ordered a large size of french fries because I love them. They also sell fried chicken bento. The curry is served in an aluminum pot, and for the extra-large portion, it comes in a pretty large pot, which looks impressive. The strongest curry rice extra-large size comes with fried chicken, croquette, tonkatsu, and a generous amount of special sauce-flavored curry roux. The flavor of this curry is a bit addictive, with the sweetness and richness of the special sauce combined with a hint of spice. And with the generous amount of curry roux, it's like drinking a beverage. I added pickled radish and fukujinzuke halfway through. The tonkatsu, fried chicken, and croquette were all crispy and delicious, and I managed to finish it more easily than I thought. However, if I were to go for a larger size, there's the Everest portion, which is a total of 5kg, probably about three times the size of the extra-large. That seems impossible, so for now, I'll stick to the extra-large. As a bonus, there's a cheese topping option. My partner ordered it, and I saw that they generously topped it with two types of cheese and torched it in front of us. Next time, I'll go for this with the extra-large portion! They also offer additional spiciness, and although I was hesitant to order the "Japan's No. 1" spiciness level because it sounded scary, apparently it's not too spicy, so I might try that next time. First visit to the Curry Shikatan Higari (Hagari) branch in Kitakyushu City, Kokura Kita-ku. Ever since opening their first store in Shimonoseki City in July 2021 during the peak of the pandemic, this restaurant has been steadily expanding its locations, which piqued my interest. I love curry, and the name "Curry Shikatan" is catchy. By chance, I stumbled upon the restaurant on the same street where I had stopped by a bakery in Kitakyushu City in the morning. While there is no parking in front of the restaurant, I parked at a nearby coin parking lot up the hill on the opposite side. The menu offers only curry, and you can choose the portion size and toppings. They have a "Mount Everest" size curry that weighs 5 kilograms (requires advance reservation) which can be shared among three people, making it a great deal for big eaters. I opted for the "Strongest Curry" with extra toppings of pork cutlet, fried chicken, and fried shrimp. The curry can be adjusted for spiciness, but I chose the normal level this time. The regular portion comes with 300g of rice, the special portion is double that at 600g, and the large portion is 1.2kg. The potato side dish seemed like a good match for the curry, so I ordered the large size. The curry and potatoes arrived, with the large portion on the left and the special portion on the right. Although the pot size is the same, the amount of rice and curry differs. The Strongest Curry special portion comes with 600g of rice, but since the pot is only half full, it doesn't look like a lot compared to the large portion which fills the pot nicely. However, once you start eating, you'll realize how substantial it is, with a light and easy-to-eat curry that is still spicy but has a hint of sweetness in the sauce. The crispy pork cutlet, juicy fried chicken, and delicious fried shrimp were all perfect with the curry. The curry here is so light that it feels like a drink. The staff mentioned that they can make coleslaw when they have the ingredients, so I ordered it and easily finished everything. I could definitely eat this curry as if it were a drink. Next time, I'll try the large portion challenge. I went to lunch with a friend at a visually interesting restaurant that serves curry rice in an aluminum pot. The main store is located in Shimonoseki City, with four branches in Yamaguchi Prefecture. The location is in Hime 3-chome, on the left side after turning from the "Nakai" intersection on Route 199 towards the "Hime Hospital." The interior has 5 counter seats and 2 table seats. The music is played at a high volume, making it hard to hear conversations. There are 6 menu options and 8 toppings to choose from. We ordered the "Strongest Curry Rice (3 toppings, large size)" for 1100 yen each. The curry rice and toppings in the aluminum pot were visually impressive. The curry sauce had a rich and salty taste, which paired well with the tonkatsu and fried foods. The portion size was satisfying, but the sauce was a bit too salty for our liking. The restaurant opened last October, with new branches in Saga Takeo and Kawata scheduled to open soon.

I read a review from a fellow reviewer and finally decided to visit. I, a small eater elderly person, ordered the recommended standard curry rice (regular size) for women. The curry didn't have visible ingredients and was a mild European-style curry with little spiciness. I later realized that you can pay extra to add spiciness. The curry was just average. On the other hand, the tonkatsu was made with tender pork and crispy coating, very delicious. Overall, I would say it was decently tasty, but I wish the quality of the rice was better. The grains were small and slightly rough.

Today, I visited a curry restaurant that recently opened in my neighborhood around 11:30 am. The restaurant had two tables and a counter with six seats. Both tables were already occupied, so I sat at the counter with another person. I ordered a regular portion of curry with tonkatsu and fried chicken toppings. The toppings seemed like something you could buy at a wholesale store. The curry itself was a bit watery and didn't leave a strong impression. It tasted like average curry you can find at a convenience store. The rice seemed like it was microwaved. Overall, the quality was similar to convenience store curry, and I don't think I will visit this restaurant again. The curry was just not memorable.

I saw a review of Mairebi-san and found out that a new curry restaurant had opened in Higashi-Ku, Niakira, so I went to "Curry Shikatan Niakira Shop" (^_^) Outside the store, there were many congratulatory wreaths lined up. The interior of the store is small. I sat at the counter seat and ordered the "Victory Curry Rice Special" with toppings of "tonkatsu" and "hamburger" (^_^) The basic menu seems to be only the number of toppings and the amount of rice, but "cheese topping" is an extra charge. The rice amount is supposed to be 300g for a regular serving. It was brought to me in about 5 minutes after ordering. It was a bit surprising that it was served not in a curry plate but in a pot (･_･;) Of course, it's a pot for serving dishes, but (laughs) The curry roux is a standard curry with a medium level of spiciness. The rice amount is supposed to be about 600g for a special serving, but it feels a little less... The rice also has a slightly mushy texture and feels a bit slippery (^_^;) The "tonkatsu" topping had a decent volume and was fried crispy and delicious. However, the "hamburger" was like, well... I hope for better things in the future since they just opened (^_^)

The main store is in Shimonoseki and it is operated by Curry Shikan Katan, Inc. It is a curry specialty restaurant aiming for nationwide chain expansion. They serve hearty curry dishes such as Curry Rice (1 topping), Victory Curry Rice (2 toppings), Ultimate Curry Rice (3 toppings), and Everest-sized Curry Rice (all toppings). Toppings include pork cutlet, croquette, fried chicken, white fish fry, shrimp fry, and hamburger. You can also add cheese topping, extra curry roux, or extra spiciness for an additional fee. The drink menu includes lassi, cola, beer, and more. This time, I ordered the Victory Curry Rice (980 yen) with pork cutlet and fried chicken toppings. The Victory Curry Rice is a typical Japanese curry, but it could level up with a bit more spiciness to enhance the flavor. The pork cutlet was crispy and delicious, while the fried chicken was flavorful but slightly bland. It seemed like the fried chicken was made to complement the curry. It was a bit disappointing that the rice was slightly lukewarm. I had been looking forward to this restaurant since I saw information online even before the main store in Shimonoseki opened. Overall, it was a satisfying meal.

Rice was too soft, curry wasn't hot, average, tonkatsu wasn't hot, poor value for money.
