I happened to be near "Kamo Nishiki" during lunchtime, so it was my first visit. To cut to the chase, even though the sign said "Duck Tsukemen," I ended up regretting ordering the "Black Soba" for some reason. First, I purchased a meal ticket at the ticket machine. The duck soup base is the same for all options: Inaniwa Udon, Sanuki Udon, Black Soba, Chinese noodles, combination of two types, combination of three types. It's interesting that you can choose the type of noodles and combinations. Since I'm on a diet, I decided to go for soba instead of udon and chose the "Black Soba." The small size (220g) costs 650 yen, and the medium size (440g) costs 750 yen. By the way, regardless of the type of noodles chosen, if they are the same size, they weigh the same. Inside the restaurant, there is a sign that reads: "Our proud duck dipping soup includes thinly sliced duck meat in our special broth, bonito flakes, lemon slices, chopped green onions, and quail eggs. The bonito flakes are soaked in the broth. Please enjoy it as it is. The lemon is peeled for safety. It's recommended to crush it in the broth and eat it for a good aftertaste. Finally, use the hot water (ginger-infused water used to cook the noodles) to dilute the broth and enjoy it as a soup." I followed all the instructions and truly enjoyed the "Duck Tsukemen." However, the regrettable part was choosing the "Black Soba." As the name suggests, it's blackish and slightly thicker soba, which looks distinctive, but unfortunately, it's not authentic soba. It's more like the kind of soba you find at standing soba shops near train stations, a bit on the chewy side. I didn't find it very delicious, especially towards the end, I got tired of it. The broth was delicious, and I thoroughly enjoyed it until the last drop of the hot water (the ginger-infused water was tasty). So, the "Black Soba" was a very disappointing choice for me. As I write this review, I'm regretting it again and thinking that if I had chosen "Inaniwa Udon," "Sanuki Udon," or even "Chinese noodles," I might have enjoyed this delicious duck dipping soup even more. If I have the chance to go again, I would like to challenge myself with "Inaniwa Udon" next time.
