Visited for the first time on January 5, 2022, the second visit of the year. Today is the last day of the New Year holiday! However, I had a little task to do on the 7th, so I decided to go to work to prepare for it. Some departments don't really have a New Year holiday, so it's not too bad. I worked in the morning, but the heating hasn't been on for 5 days, so it was so cold. I didn't do much and just did the bare minimum before leaving (laughs). Now, it's time for food. I didn't feel like going too far, but I remembered that there was a new restaurant in Nagano that I haven't been to yet. My wife probably wouldn't like this place, so I decided to go alone! The restaurant is called Oudan Nagano Honten, known for its delicious dumplings. When I entered, it looked like a newly opened restaurant in the midst of the pandemic, with quite a spacious layout. There were two groups of five customers ahead of me, and it was quite empty. This restaurant operates on a semi-self-service basis, so I was a bit confused about what to do, but the staff told me to "please sit at any table you like. We will come to take your order." So, I chose a table seat. Looking at the menu, it seemed that spicy Chinese dishes were the main focus. There were also some dishes that my wife might like. Since I was alone today... Alright! I'll order the mapo noodles and some dumplings (^^♪ They provided water after I ordered. I noticed that those who ordered set meals also got free rice and soup. Since I ordered noodles, I'll think about whether I can eat rice while eating the noodles. They take your order, but you have to carry the food to your table yourself. You also have to clear your own dishes, so it's a self-service style. When your table number is called, you go to pick up your food. The noodles and dumplings were ready at the same time. The mapo noodles looked really good, and the dumplings had a nice shape! Let's dig in. I'll start with the noodles. It's not really a soup, but more like mapo tofu on top, so I'll start with that. They use soft tofu, and the crumbled texture is to my liking. When I took a bite, I was surprised! The flavor of Sichuan peppercorns is strong, and it's quite spicy, with a weak sweetness. It's a very authentic Sichuan-style dish. This is quite good... I'll eat the noodles now. The soup is soy sauce-based, with the soup and mapo mixing together and coating the noodles. The noodles are slightly thin, with a high water content, which is a bit different from my preference, but the impact of the mapo tofu makes it not a big deal. Oh, I was surprised. It's really delicious! Now, the dumplings. When I put one in my mouth, the meat juice overflowed (^^♪ Be careful not to burn yourself, but these dumplings are also really delicious! Based on this experience, I think the boiled dumplings would also be delicious. I had the dumplings and the mapo tofu from the mapo noodles with rice as a side. The rice is kept warm after being cooked, so it's not great, and the soup is a slightly sour egg soup. It's a nice touch, but in the case of set meals, do you have to serve the rice yourself with the side dishes? If the first meal is like this, I personally would pass on the set meal (^^;) Anyway, the mapo noodles and dumplings were close to perfect in taste. I can imagine that the tantan noodles would also be delicious, so a revisit is definitely necessary. I'm glad I found something delicious on the last day of the New Year holiday! It was delicious!! Thank you for the meal♪
