KITTE Hakata, an adjacent facility to JR Hakata Station, opened on April 21, 2016, and has been around for 5 years already. Time flies by so quickly. KITTE is a commercial facility developed by Japan Post for the first time. The facilities in Marunouchi, Hakata, and Nagoya are all located near the central railway stations of each city. KITTE Hakata, in particular, is spacious with 64,000 square meters and 181 stores. The food and beverage floor, known as "Umaito," has over 50 stores from B1 to 11F. While driving through Hakata and it was around lunchtime, we decided to have lunch there. The underground parking at KITTE is convenient and not too crowded, which is nice. They provide discount coupons for parking with store usage. We headed to the food and beverage floor on the 9th and 10th floors. It wasn't too crowded on a weekday afternoon. We looked around and were captivated by the photo of the "Akagyu Don" at Akagyu Dining yoka-yoka, so we decided to have that for lunch. It's a great feeling to enjoy a Kumamoto specialty in Hakata. There were two of us. Hand sanitizing at the entrance of the restaurant. Upon entering, we saw a showcase of Akagyu beef in front. The layout includes counter seats and table seats on both sides. Jazz music was playing in the background. Due to COVID-19 measures, the seating capacity seemed to be reduced to less than 40 seats. Despite being in the center of the floor without windows, the upper part was open, so it didn't feel claustrophobic. The menu was on the table. The drink menu only had non-alcoholic and soft drinks. Although this restaurant is recommended for pairing meat with wine, we opted for non-alcoholic drinks due to driving. Cold water, towels, and cutlery were on the table. The completed bowl, along with the tray. Akagyu Don for 1980 yen (tax included) with soup, salad, and +100 yen for extra rice. Wasabi, egg, and shiso can be omitted. In addition to soup and salad, a mini cheesecake dessert was included. The Akagyu Don, a Kumamoto specialty, had a beautiful meat color. The "Kosei Beef" from their own ranch, Kosei Ranch, is a brand of the Japanese Brown cattle breed. The umami of the tender red meat was delightful. The semi-soft egg yolk added richness. The sweet sauce complemented the rice well, but I prefer to have the sauce on the meat only. The meat itself was perfect. We also saw the flaming hamburger set at the next table, where the brandy was flambéed at the table for added aroma. It was a fun presentation and looked delicious. The limited 10 servings of today's steak also caught our eye. Regardless, we hope to return when things have calmed down, and we can enjoy Hakata's delicious offerings once again.
