I had been to Rishiri Island before, but this year I finally visited Rebun Island! Even on a remote island, I'm still doing my food blog activities! Rebun Island has amazing scenery everywhere you look, and as a Hokkaido local accustomed to stunning views, I was truly impressed by the breathtaking landscapes here. The food was also delicious... This time, I stayed overnight at the Kusshu Lake Campground in Funadomari on the north side of Rebun Island. It may seem a bit quiet compared to the more developed south side, but there are some wonderful shops in Funadomari as well. I was grateful for the restaurant review of this lesser-known shop in Rebun Island, Katsuro-san. This bakery with a yellow exterior is easy to spot in the shopping street of Funadomari. It's convenient to have a parking lot right next to the shop. I went right after the 9 am opening, so there were plenty of bread options, which was lucky! They often sell out by the afternoon. It's great that they open at 9 am. The prices are quite reasonable, mainly in the range of 100 to 200 yen. They have sweet bread like anpan, cream pan, melon pan, and chocolate marble, as well as savory options like salt bread, pork bun, and curry pan, providing a good balance. I also saw "Choco Cornet" for the first time in a while... it brings back nostalgic feelings. Overall, they offer a lineup of classic items with occasional interesting original bread, which is nice. It's the kind of shop you'd be happy to have in your neighborhood. Funadomari has many scenic spots like Summishiri Cape and Skoton Cape, so I recommend stopping by before heading in that direction for a drive. There's also "Oyasumi-dokoro Dan" nearby, which opens at 9 am as well, so I recommend checking that out too. After getting some bread, it's nice to grab a delicious coffee or something to go at Dan. ● Pork Bun The cuteness of this pork bun is just irresistible! It's so charmingly simple that it's almost a shame to eat it... This shop's bread is incredibly fluffy! It's surprisingly soft! The filling is like that of a pork bun, and it goes well with the fluffy bread. Delicious! It's quite large too! ● Salt Bread It's nice to see that even the northernmost bakery has salt bread! It was a delicious salt bread with a buttery juiciness. The saltiness is subtle. This shop is loved by the locals and rooted in the community. I would love to visit again when I come back to Rebun Island. As for tourist spots, there's Kaneda Cape right near this shop, but the view there is so-so... However, it was a sunny day, so I took a picture with the sky as the backdrop. It was really delicious! Thank you for the meal!
