I have been to this place many times, and they always serve fresh, delicious oysters at a very affordable price. Even though there is only one master handling everything, the wait is worth it because the food is so tasty. The staff may seem a bit unfriendly, but the food is so good that it's worth a visit. ✨

We went in the evening with two people. The restaurant is located on the second floor of a not-so-prominent back street. There was a quiet older brother managing the place alone, it seemed. I was worried because there were quite a few customers and he seemed to be running the place by himself. When I ordered white wine, I was served a wine-steamed clam dish as a complimentary appetizer. It was delicious. The oysters I was looking forward to were only 240 yen each, which is cheap! And they were delicious. In the end, the two of us ate 16 oysters. I would definitely go back.

A visit at night. A rare find in Tokyo (or maybe I didn't do enough research?), a place where you can enjoy delicious oysters at a reasonable price. You can choose from raw, grilled, or steamed oysters while sipping on alcohol. The other appetizers are also tasty, and the location is convenient, close to Ikebukuro Station. Recommended!

I had been a regular at the Roppongi branch, but I finally made my first visit to the Ikebukuro branch. Unlike the spacious Roppongi branch, this one is quite small, around 5 tatami mats in size, with slightly uncomfortable counter seats. First, I ordered white wine and 6 pieces of fresh oysters. I made a mistake choosing a sweet white wine, but the oysters were delicious. I couldn't compare different types of oysters, but for only 190 yen each, they were great. Despite being understaffed, I didn't have to wait long, which left a good impression. Overall, I found the menu a bit lacking aside from the oysters, but when it comes to oysters, this place offers tasty, affordable, and quick service, making it a great spot.

When I visited the Roppongi Gotsubo, I was impressed by the affordability of the oysters. However, I found out that there is also a store in Ikebukuro which is a bit closer for me on a weekday night. It seems that the Ikebukuro store is not part of the same chain as the Roppongi store and has a different menu. I visited the Ikebukuro store to confirm the differences. They have a menu that reflects the flavors of Hokkaido. There are more appetizers available here compared to the Roppongi store. The oysters from Rausu are the same - raw, steamed, grilled, and baked. I tried them all and the grilled oysters were the best - so flavorful! I also ordered oyster fry, oyster gratin, regular pan-fried dumplings, potato salad, scallops, and more. Everything was delicious. The prices were reasonable considering the variety of dishes we ordered. This place seems like a convenient option for enjoying oysters nearby.

The small shop, which is only 5 tatami mats in size, was reserved by a friend because I wanted to eat oysters. The raw oysters, grilled oysters, and steamed oysters were all priced at 190 yen each, and they were all from Akkeshi, Hokkaido. Of course, we ordered all three types and the steamed oysters were so plump and delicious. All the oysters were tasty. We also ordered garlic cheese grilled oysters, oyster fry, scallop butter grilled, gyoza, tako zangi, Tokachi potato salad, edamame, and even more raw oysters. We also enjoyed Hokkaido wines such as Otaru Wine (white), Tokachi Wine Cup (white), and Yoichi Kellner (white). We were full of delicious oyster dishes and the very reasonable prices made us happy. We will definitely come back again.

On a Saturday night, in response to the request for wanting to eat fresh oysters, we visited a popular restaurant in Ikebukuro. Located on the second floor, this 5-tatami-mat sized restaurant has its main branch in Hokkaido, where you can enjoy fresh oysters and sake. We ordered fresh oysters, buttered potatoes, mentaiko (spicy cod roe) octopus fritters, and Sapporo Classic beer. We started with a steamed clam appetizer, which was perfectly seasoned and went well with the Sapporo Classic beer. The thick oysters from Akkeshi were fresh and delicious, especially when squeezed with lemon and dipped in ponzu sauce. The buttered potatoes were made in an authentic way, served hot on a hot plate wrapped in aluminum foil, with melted butter and mentaiko, creating another delicious dish. It was a great place to enjoy authentic Hokkaido snacks and sake.

I prefer the Ikebukuro location of the Oyster Gopinai restaurant. Both locations offer oysters from Akkeshi at a very affordable price (around 150 yen cost price, which is amazing). Personally, I find this location more relaxing and cozy compared to the Roppongi one. It is located on the second floor of a complex building in a back alley, with a love hotel in front of it. The restaurant has a nostalgic Showa-era vibe. In addition to oysters, they also serve delicious Hokkaido specialties and local sake. They have rare craft beers like Fukushi and Ezo Beer, as well as Sapporo Classic in bottles. It's convenient to pop in for a drink since it's close by, but the limited seating means it can get quite busy (it's recommended to call ahead). Also, if you get carried away with drinking, the alcohol prices can add up quickly. It's a cleverly run establishment with a good customer spend rate.

Continuing from Roppongi's 5-tsubo, we have Ikebukuro's 5-tsubo. It's located at the west exit of Ikebukuro. The interior has a counter, a table for two, and a table for 4 to 6 people. It's small, but the satisfaction of the oysters is amazing. Fresh oysters are only 150 yen each! Cheap and delicious! I recommend the steamed oysters. Two for 400 yen, perfectly cooked and delicious. Firm and juicy. The main branch in Sapporo sells them for 100 yen each. Even with the shipping cost, 150 yen for fresh oysters in Tokyo is still a great deal. They also have menu items like water dumplings, so you can enjoy a variety of dishes. They even have ramen as a finishing touch. It seemed like some people came here just for the ramen. I never expected to find a place like this in Ikebukuro. It's truly fascinating.
Regarding oyster "poisoning," there are different types of causes: 1. Toxins from algae. 2. Norovirus. 3. Allergies. There are also cases where old oysters breed E. coli bacteria, but plain food poisoning from old oysters is excluded. Even with good freshness, there is still a risk of poisoning. In Japan, oysters go through strict checks before being sold, so you can rest assured. Oysters grown near rivers (for cooking) are more prone to Norovirus. Consuming them raw can lead to vomiting, fever, and stomach cramps. Oysters grown in open waters (for raw consumption) are safe. Oysters grown near rivers (for cooking) are safe if cooked thoroughly to kill the virus. Allergies can also occur when consuming raw oysters, leading to symptoms like fever, vomiting, and diarrhea a few hours after eating. It's like filling a cup with water and eventually overflowing. Cooking breaks down the protein, making it safe to eat. In summary, there is a low probability of risks associated with raw consumption, but they are still present (similar to meat and fish). If you want to avoid these risks, cook the oysters. I personally continue to enjoy delicious raw oysters and will continue to do so, even if it means facing the risks.

Oysters are priced at 209 yen each (as of October 22nd). They are only from Akkeshi, and while they are small, they taste pretty good. For those who don't want to eat a whole dozen of raw oysters, this price is quite pleasing. Grilled oysters and steamed oysters are also priced the same, and cooking them really enhances the flavor. In addition, they offer oyster dishes such as oyster oil, oyster soy sauce with wasabi, and oyster fry, all of which are delicious. Other menu items are mainly focused on Hokkaido cuisine. The kitchen is simple, so there are no elaborate dishes, but the chicken zangi was tasty. The buttered potatoes were also delicious, very sweet like "Inca no Mezame" or "Male Baron". The oil noodles, listed as the last item on the menu, were no longer available. The drinks are slightly on the expensive side. Sapporo Classic beer is available, and it's nice that they have Hoppy available as well, especially the black Hoppy which goes well with oysters. While regular oyster bars offer a variety of oysters, including those from overseas, this place is not in that price range for "casual enjoyment of oysters". For oyster lovers, having a place like this to enjoy oysters is great. The interior is narrow and long, just like the name suggests. Normally, you wouldn't think of doing anything other than running a bar in such a small space. Whether you see this as cramped and inconvenient or a cozy place to drink is up to individual preference. Also, smoking is allowed throughout the establishment, so smokers can enjoy their cigarettes without hesitation. Non-smokers should be prepared for the small space and the smoke.

The restaurant is quite small with only one sofa seat at the back. The complimentary simmered egg was tastier than at a ramen shop. The raw oysters had no strange smell and were surprisingly delicious for 190 yen. The grilled oysters were also good and fragrant. The grilled spear squid was very tasty, but it would be even better if the innards were richer. The fried octopus was as delicious as expected. The place seemed popular among young women as all the customers were female. It is a smoking-permitted establishment.

Hidden gem. This place is great. Ah, I want to go there.

The oysters were delicious. The restaurant is small and not very stylish, so it's a good place to go with a friend who loves oysters without feeling self-conscious. Since the seating is limited, it might be a good idea to make a reservation. There aren't many options for closing dishes, so it's necessary to plan whether to go there as the first or second stop.
