Today, on March 25th, Saturday, how are you all spending your day? Please continue to be cautious of the coronavirus. Today, I went on a 1-night, 2-day trip to Hakodate. Upon arriving in Hakodate, it was lunchtime. Our first destination was the Hakodate Morning Market. We decided to dine at Ichika-Tei Tabijinishi, which was actually featured on a TV show two and a half years ago. The hosts, including Miki Murai, were eating seafood bowls worth a total of 10,000 yen at the market. They had two bowls priced at 7,000 yen each (now 8,800 yen) for three people. I opted for the Hakodate specialty, the "dancing squid bowl." This dish features a live squid that moves when soy sauce is poured over it. After enjoying the dancing squid, I asked the staff how to eat it, and they showed me how to prepare the tentacles and cartilage. The dish also included salmon roe alongside the squid sashimi. The fresh squid from Hakodate had a great texture, with the tentacles and cartilage providing a crunchy sensation. Mixing it with ginger made for a refreshing taste. The miso soup had shredded kelp, adding a unique texture to the meal. While there were many lunch options to choose from, I decided on this restaurant as soon as I saw it after leaving the station, as I wanted to try the squid. Although I was curious about the 8,800 yen bowl that Miki Murai and others had, I was satisfied with my choice of the dancing squid bowl. I recommend trying it. Thank you for the meal.

I wanted to eat seafood bowl, so I entered a restaurant called Donburi Yokocho right in front of the station. I looked around and decided to try this place with good reviews. They didn't have live squid, but they had a bowl with sea urchin, salmon roe, and salmon, so I ordered that. You can also choose additional toppings. It comes with miso soup and pickles. The size of the bowl is not that big, it's a bit small. But I think it's just the right size for people who like to eat on the go or for women. The sea urchin, generous amount of salmon roe, and salmon were all delicious, and it made for a very satisfying lunch.

Having been rejected multiple times by Jiyoken, I decided to save the fresh squid I was planning to eat for dinner and have it for lunch instead! When in Hakodate, you must eat squid. It was a lively meal! When I poured soy sauce on it, the squid's legs started moving energetically. It was crunchy and delicious.

I wanted to eat sea urchin but I was already full. Then I found a place that serves a bowl with a choice of three seafood toppings. Today, there was no squid due to poor fishing conditions, so I chose sea urchin, scallop, and crab. The warm white rice topped with seafood arrived in a small rice bowl. The sea urchin was different from the cheap one at conveyor belt sushi restaurants, and the scallop and crab meat were delicious. The amount of toppings was small, so it felt like eating rice with soy sauce, but it was a great experience.

My son wanted to eat there, so we went. It closes at 2 pm, so we arrived before 1 pm and it was already quite crowded. I was worried they might run out of squid, but luckily they had some! In the end, the three of us shared a dish and enjoyed it. We didn't eat as much as we thought we would, but we got to try some squid tentacles, which was interesting. I never knew squid could be so delicious! The salmon roe served with it was also tasty. By the way, the total bill came to 2500 yen... which wasn't enough, so we ended up going to Lucky Pierrot afterwards (laughs). The grilled fish set meal also looked delicious. Thank you for the meal!

I went around 8 o'clock in the morning. I walked from the hotel and decided to come here for breakfast today. It was a very lively restaurant. I ordered the fresh squid sashimi and cod set meal. I completely fell in love with the cod. It was thick, fatty, and delicious.

Grilled halibut set meal for 1210 yen. There are 9 seats at the counter and a raised seating area for 4 people. It seems there are also seats on the 32nd floor. They have fresh squid today for 1600 yen. No wet towels, but there are tissues available. They have live fish tanks. 3 customers are wearing masks, 2 are not, and 1 is wearing a chin mask.

This is a shop in the Donburi Yokocho at Hakodate Morning Market. They are famous for their bowl filled with fresh squid, but unfortunately there was no fresh squid available that day. I tried the three-color bowl with sea urchin, crab, and salmon roe instead. The crab was a bit watery, but overall the rice was good and I think this shop is one of the more reasonable options in the Yokocho.

Near Hakodate Station, there is a seafood bowl restaurant located in the Donburi Yokocho Market. There are many seafood bowl restaurants lined up in the market, but I visited this one because it was featured on TV and had the highest rating on Tabelog. I tried the sea urchin, scallop, and salmon roe bowl. The sea urchin was especially delicious, with no fishy taste at all. I felt that Hakodate sea urchin was the best I've ever had in my life. I also had fresh spear squid sashimi and grilled squid legs as a snack with beer. They were also excellent with a hint of sweetness. The squid sashimi dancing bowl seems to be the most famous, so I would like to try that next time I come to Hakodate.

In the Donburi Yokocho at Hakodate Asaichi Morning Market, there is a shop that stands out among the many seafood bowl restaurants - the live squid dancing bowl. Whenever I visit Hakodate during the squid season, I always make sure to have the live squid dancing bowl on the day of my arrival. As the name suggests, they prepare the live squid by slicing it into sashimi right after you order, then place the fresh squid sashimi along with salmon roe, and top it off with the squid's tentacles. The price of the live squid varies depending on the market price and tends to increase. The last time I had it, it was 2080 yen without tax. Also, the size of the squid varies depending on the season and individual differences. The photo shows the largest squid I had, which was four years ago in October. The impact is incredible. You can take photos, admire it, watch it move when you pour soy sauce on it, and after enjoying it, they will cut up the tentacles for you. Even after being cut up, the squid tentacles still slightly move. The freshness is top-notch, and the texture is chewy. You can dip the tentacles in soy sauce to make a liver soy sauce, or enjoy them little by little (I prefer enjoying them little by little). It goes without saying that it is delicious, but eating this makes me feel like "I have arrived in Hakodate!" (laughs)

Hakodate Asaichi, Donburi Yokocho Market is lined with 15-16 shops where you can enjoy fresh seafood. I visited "Ikatei Tabiji" among them. The interior of the restaurant is a calm space with seating on the first floor, a raised seating area, counter seats, and seating on the second floor, totaling 58 seats. They are open all year round and I visited for breakfast.
-Three-color bowl 2530 yen: A luxurious three-color bowl with sea urchin, crab, and salmon roe. The sea urchin is sweet, the salmon roe has a nice saltiness and pop, and the crab has a satisfying size. It's the perfect combination.
-Shimahokke set meal 1650 yen: Shimahokke is thick and fatty, with a firm and juicy texture. It's a rare taste for those who like fatty fish. Surprisingly sweet and delicious.
-Silver cod set meal 1430 yen: The flesh is fluffy and juicy. I was impressed by the aroma and flavor of the silver cod when I put it in my mouth. I couldn't stop eating the white rice. It was a luxurious breakfast.

Friday 9:00, no waiting at the door, dancing squid rice bowl for 2,300 yen. It arrived in about 10 minutes. "If you pour soy sauce on its legs, it dances," they said. But it was just twitching... and staring at me. I felt bad, so I quickly moved it to a separate plate. The squid is called "Spear squid" and has a crunchy texture. But there seemed to be too much of the chewy part. I quickly ate the radish pickles that kept coming back to the bowl. There were no staff around after I finished eating, and because I had made too much eye contact with the squid, I decided to leave without ordering more. Thank you for the meal.

It was 2:00 PM and most of the morning market shops were already closed, but Donburi Yokocho was still open. After some hesitation, I decided to go to "Tabiji," a place where you can still have fresh squid sashimi even at this hour. I ordered a beer and squid sashimi. The squid was so fresh that it was still moving on the plate, with the tentacles sticking to my mouth. I also tried the crab miso shell grill, where you mix crab miso and plenty of crab legs and green onions inside the shell. The cod miso grill had thick and fluffy meat with just the right amount of fat. It was so delicious that I could easily have two bowls of rice with it alone. The restaurant was supposed to close at 3:00 PM, but when we were leaving near closing time, four more people came in. It seemed like they were extending their hours. I definitely want to visit Tabiji again next time.

I thought it was a bit of a pricey restaurant for tourists, but it was actually very authentic and delicious. The cod set meal was 1650 yen and the cod had a perfect amount of fat, which was wonderful. The shiso leaf tsukemono was also delicious. The crab-filled thick omelette was around 660 yen and it was decent.

An old man had lunch in Hakodate. The night before, he had been drinking in Sapporo. In the morning, he ate a donut at the station and took a train to Hakodate. Why Hakodate? He had never been there before. He thought it would be a quick ride on the limited express, but it was far. When he arrived, it was already lunchtime. He decided to have lunch somewhere in Hakodate. While wandering around Hakodate Station, he found a place called Donburi Yokocho Market, with various seafood stalls. He chose a restaurant called Tabiji and ordered a crab bowl. The price was around 2300 yen, which he thought was reasonable. The bowl arrived with fresh ikura and three large crabs. It also came with miso soup. It was delicious, with fresh ikura and crab. He enjoyed his lunch in Hakodate and would like to try the squid sashimi next time. If you have the chance, please give it a try!

I visited the restaurant around 10 o'clock for breakfast. I wanted to enjoy my meal without affecting my next meal during my sightseeing in Hakodate, so I chose a small rice bowl this time. The restaurant allows you to choose up to three types of toppings, which is a 4-star feature, but the rice was a bit firm, so I wish it was more to my liking.

Last time I visited, it was during the season for dried squid (ika), and I was so impressed by how delicious it was. I even thought about writing a review at that time, but I was filming a video, so I gave up. This time, it's spear squid, and I wasn't too impressed with the taste. The texture is not as good as before, and the size is smaller too. They didn't even offer to dissect the tentacles for me like they did last time. If you're coming for the squid, there's no reason to visit Hakodate between November and June. This is just my personal opinion.笑

I went to a very popular restaurant in the morning! I was surprised by everything. I had the squid dancing-don, and when I added soy sauce, it was fun to watch it move. The squid was very fresh with a crunchy texture and delicious. The staff were also very kind, making it a very satisfying dining experience.

On the fourth day, I headed to the morning market again and decided to try the famous dancing squid rice bowl at a restaurant. However, since I arrived early (around 6 am), the squid had not been delivered yet, so I couldn't try any squid-related dishes. Instead, I ordered the cod set meal with a draft beer for 2260 yen. While enjoying my beer, I patiently waited for the meal which took about 15 minutes to be ready. The main dish was a thick piece of cod, accompanied by side dishes like Matsumae pickles, a small salad with crab meat, a grated dish (possibly a type of shellfish), and pickles. The miso soup had plenty of shredded kelp, which I personally enjoyed. The food was delicious, especially the cod which was really tasty. The side dishes were also good, and I almost wanted another bowl of rice. Overall, it was a satisfying meal and I look forward to trying the dancing squid rice bowl next time I visit. Thank you for the meal.

I ordered the dancing squid rice bowl for 2,300 yen. When I mentioned that I didn't like ikura, they kindly changed it to crab flakes for me. At this point, I was already impressed. When I poured soy sauce over the squid, it seemed like the squid was dancing, and when I ate the tentacles, the suckers stuck to my tongue. It was quite fresh and had a striking visual impact!

Dancing squid rice bowl for 2080 yen. A seafood bowl with a live squid on top. When soy sauce is poured on the squid's legs, it starts moving! The staff then cut it up for easy eating. The squid was chewy and crunchy, and quite sweet. ✨
