I had a hard time choosing what to eat for dinner on the plane because there were so many options available. Since I had already eaten a lot of seafood, I decided to go with a bento box from Sato Suisan. The rice was delicious, and the fish was marinated in sake lees, which I usually don't like, but it was surprisingly good. The bento box also included hiroshiya, tamagoyaki, pickles, and it was well-balanced overall. I really enjoyed it.

I arrived at New Chitose Airport and decided to stop by Souon to find a bento for my drive. There were many bento shops around, and next to this shop was a handmade rice bowl shop. I bought a mini bowl there and also purchased a mini bento called Ishikari Sushi. The salmon was thick and delicious, and the ikura had surprisingly large grains with a satisfying amount. I wasn't expecting much from a pre-made bento, but it exceeded my expectations in terms of taste.

Sapporo business trip. It's finally time to head back. I hurriedly buy souvenirs at New Chitose Airport. A shopping order from my friend. The last one is... "You must buy a bento from Sato Suisan!" I've already found a store that sells Sato Suisan's bento. Time to buy quickly. "Kuubendojo Soen" is the place. Sato Suisan's bento is lined up here. I need to buy 6 bentos for my home, in-laws, and relatives. No time to hesitate. Let's hurry! I quickly put good-looking bentos in my basket. For my home, I bought two bentos: salmon roe marinated salmon seafood bento and luxurious thick-cut salmon bento. For my in-laws and relatives, I bought Ishikari sushi and luxurious crab comparison three-meal bowl, as well as a variety of northern seafood. After arriving at Takamatsu Airport, I deliver the souvenirs. My in-laws are thrilled with the Sato Suisan bento. Finally back home. Time to eat. On top of the rice are salmon roe marinated salmon, ikura, and grilled salmon, truly a salmon feast. The salmon roe marinated salmon is a bit salty, but its deliciousness is addictive. It's also great to eat it with warm rice. Eating it with the cold rice from the bento might make it a bit saltier. It's been a while since I had Sato Suisan's bento. My friend is also happy. It all worked out well. Ah, Hokkaido was so much fun... When will I be able to go to Hokkaido again? Maybe next year. Well, let's patiently wait for that time.

Welcome. Found at the end of Terminal 2F of New Chitose Airport Domestic Terminal, I stumbled upon a variety of bento boxes from Sato Suisan, which is affiliated with Hokkaido's Sato Suisan. While they recommended the airport-exclusive "Uni Zanmai" for 1,580 yen, I opted for the "Sazanami Bento" instead. I enjoyed it in the Super Lounge (not on the plane). Inside the chopstick wrapper, there was a generous serving of salmon soy sauce and the hospitality characteristic of Sato Suisan. The main dish was the thinly sliced "Salmon Koji-Marinated Grilled Salmon," which had a strong flavor of koji and didn't need any soy sauce. The side dishes included tamagoyaki (rolled omelette), kombu rolls, fried fish cake, and spring rolls. Despite the somewhat high airport price, it might actually be surprisingly reasonable.

The day before, I stayed at my usual place in Susukino, Sapporo. My companion had imposed a ban on going out, so I obediently stayed in and toasted with homemade side dishes made by my companion, then went to bed early. I woke up at 5 am the next morning and headed to the planned parking lot in Chitose, only to find it closed due to COVID-19. However, since I was familiar with New Chitose Airport from work, I instinctively parked at another parking lot and caught the shuttle bus right on time. It was a close call, but my luck was on point, showcasing my ability to navigate tricky situations. In the planning stage, I had hoped to have a leisurely breakfast somewhere, but that didn't work out, so I was grateful for the convenience store that was open early in the morning. As a food lover, I bought a rice ball set and a pork cutlet sandwich. After completing the boarding procedures quickly, I enjoyed the Sora SkyMark flight. The airport-limited rice ball set from Sato Suisan included salmon and salmon flakes. We both preferred the salmon flakes, but I graciously gave in this time... perhaps due to the power dynamics of this trip? The salmon was flaked and the balance of ingredients was a bit off... not bad, but maybe they should focus more on the taste when eating it cold. The salmon flakes at Sato Suisan were a bit disappointing for a local like me... maybe it's just for advertising. But the soy sauce-marinated salmon roe next to it looked delicious (just from looking at it). The pork cutlet sandwich had a nice sauce, but the pork was a bit tough and dry... not quite there. My own pork cutlet sandwich that I developed in the past is twice as delicious (mysterious). Some people from Tomakomai might have tried it. However, a meal eaten in a joyful mood tastes delicious... food really is all about the feeling. I was further satisfied with the KitKat and Nescafe coffee provided as a service. With a sense of excitement, the journey began.

Sea urchin rice bowl for 1,300 yen. Today, since I don't have to drive, I had beer in the JAL lounge in the afternoon. I chose the sea urchin rice bowl from Sato Suisan as my accompaniment. The portion was modest and a bit dry, but the sea urchin was delicious. I had three free beers and then headed back to Tokyo. Maybe I'll visit Hokkaido again in October?

This is the departure terminal at New Chitose Airport. I had to leave early in the morning and didn't have much time. The security check was quite crowded, so I had to get in quickly! I decided to grab a rice ball here for breakfast. I bought a salmon rice ball for 190 yen from Sato Suisan. Is this okay? I head to the gate. I have to take off my jacket, so the baggage inspection will take longer than usual. I finally make it in and start eating the rice ball. It's cold. Oh well, can't be helped. The seaweed is moist, the salmon is a bit salty. The rice is firm and well-packed. It feels like a rice ball made by a mom, which I like. I quickly finished it, it was a nostalgic rice ball. Thank you for the meal!

"I visited the New Chitose Airport for the first time in a while and had a great time. I stopped by the "Kubendoujo Souen" where they sell a variety of bento boxes. The bento boxes seem to be made by a company called "Sato Suisan Sushi," which is part of the Sato Suisan group. There were many types of bento boxes available, but since I couldn't eat them all by myself, I decided to pass. I purchased a "Grilled Tarako Onigiri for 185 yen" and enjoyed it at the third-floor eat-in area overlooking the airport. I opened the transparent plastic case and took out the onigiri. The filling was not in the center of the rice, but between the seaweed and rice. The saltiness was just right, and I liked the slightly firm texture of the rice, but I felt that the chilled onigiri stored in the refrigerated case didn't quite hit the spot. Overall, I couldn't help but feel that the prices were a bit high, considering it's at the airport. Bon appétit!"

I purchased these as souvenirs for my family during a business trip to Hokkaido.
- Zuwai Crab Pressed Sushi: This pressed sushi is made with thick slices of zuwai crab. Although you can't see it in the photo, there is also crab mixed with mayonnaise inside the rice, which was delicious.
- Zuwai Crab Chirashi Sushi: This chirashi sushi has a perfect balance of zuwai crab and salmon roe. The flaked crab and tasty salmon roe were very satisfying. In terms of taste, the pressed sushi was better than the chirashi sushi, so I'm glad I bought both. Pressed sushi is easy to share among everyone, so it was a good choice. I plan to try a different bento when I go back to Hokkaido in November.

This is a bento shop inside New Chitose Airport. They mainly sell seafood bentos, but also offer sandwiches and onigiri from "Sato Suisan." I purchased the Hokkaido pork fillet cutlet sandwich (¥580) from "Sapporo Balnavaboos" which came with 4 pieces (equivalent to 2 slices of bread). The fluffy bread, tender cutlet, rich sauce make for a delicious classic cutlet sandwich, but it's disappointing that the mustard mayonnaise doesn't seem to be present at all (although it should be according to the ingredients list). Mustard is essential for a cutlet sandwich.

In April 2019 at New Chitose Airport, I bought a boxed lunch for breakfast because I had an early morning flight. I couldn't find the "Shellfish and Uni with Two Types of Seasoned Salmon Roe Bowl" that I purchased last time and loved, so I decided to try this one which looked delicious in a lovely box. It was called "Northern Uni Rice," with plenty of uni spread on top of the rice. It was delicious. Thank you for the meal.

On the way back from Sapporo, I didn't have time to eat inside the airport because my flight was in the early afternoon, so I decided to look for a bento box! I couldn't decide between a seafood or meat option, so I wandered around until I found a reasonable onigiri at Soen near Samantha Thavasa on the second floor departure area on the JAL side of New Chitose Airport! They had a variety of bento boxes from Sato Suisan, and I ended up buying the Enmusubi (780 yen), which is a limited menu item at New Chitose Airport! The name of the product seems to be a play on "enmusubi," which means connection or bond. The onigiri had two types of fillings, salmon roe and flaked salmon. The onigiri was quite large, and the flaked salmon was made from aged mountain-pickled salmon with just the right amount of salt. The salmon roe was also easy to eat and had a smooth taste, making it a luxurious onigiri. There were many other attractive bento boxes available, so I would like to try them next time!

I have an early morning business trip today, arriving at the airport a little after 7 AM. It's the first time I've come this early, usually I take it easy. There aren't many open shops at this hour, so I'll grab breakfast here! When you go up the escalator from JR to the JAL side, you can see it right away. The round onigiri is quite famous here, but I'll go with the regular grilled fish. The price is reasonable for an airport, considering there are only more expensive options inside. The homemade feel is nice. It's simply delicious. The grilled fish isn't as salty as I expected. Maybe I'm thinking about it too much because I enjoy drinking. Well, time to get to work!

I'm finally heading back to Tokyo by plane after my trip to Sapporo from 12/12. Since my flight is at 6 pm, right at dinner time, I decided to buy an in-flight meal. There are many options, but I found this salmon and salmon roe marinated seafood bento. The salmon and salmon roe are marinated in a special soy sauce, and although it seems a bit salty, I decided to buy it. When I tried it, the salmon had a moist texture from being marinated in the special soy sauce. The flavor is strong, but it goes well with rice. I feel like this flavor would pair well with alcohol, but I don't plan on drinking on the plane. It was a fun trip to Sapporo. Thank you for the meal.

Returning to Osaka from Chitose. The restaurants are not open during the early morning flight time. The souvenir shops are also closed. So, the only option for breakfast is to buy from a bento shop. This time, I chose onigiri. The fillings were salmon roe and grilled salmon. You don't see these combinations often in Kansai. The price was quite high, but the unique ingredients made it worth it. Especially the salmon roe. Among the fillings that go well with onigiri, it's definitely top-tier.

In the early morning of May 2018, I headed to Haneda Airport by plane. Before boarding, I looked for a boxed meal. I purchased Sato Suisan's "Mixed Sea Urchin and Salmon Roe Taste Comparison Bowl" (tax included 1480 yen) at Soen. When I opened the box, it was filled with plenty of Baifun sea urchin, two types of salmon roe marinated in soy sauce and salt, and crab, just as shown in the picture on the box. The thickness of the sea urchin was impressive. The Baifun sea urchin was sweet and rich! The two types of seasoned salmon roe had a good taste. The crab also had a delicious flavor. I think this is a very satisfying boxed meal. It was very delicious. Thank you for the meal.

A bento shop on the 2nd floor of New Chitose Airport. They have a good variety, with a focus on seafood. I chose the "Four Major Salmon Comparison Bento (1280 yen)" which includes different types of salmon. The taste was satisfying, but unfortunately, there was very little soy sauce.

At 7:30 in the early morning, even though I was full from a hearty meal last night, I found myself hungry on the day of my departure. I chose the high-end Sato Suisan seafood bento box "Okushiri's Specialty Uni and Ikura Rice." Despite its small size, it was priced at ¥1580, making it quite expensive. It is made with Okushiri sea salted Uni, which boasts a softness similar to fresh Uni. It also contains Hokkaido salmon roe and Hokkaido Hoshinoyume rice, all packed in an elegant octagonal black bento box. The rice was subtly seasoned and topped with perfectly steamed Uni that had a texture close to raw Uni, showcasing Sato Suisan's expertise. The beautiful purple sea urchin and delicious Ikura harmonized wonderfully, with the addition of shredded egg and ginger providing a nice balance. This bento box paired well with a cold beer. Overall, it was a delightful meal and is likely to become a staple at New Chitose Airport.

Returning to Osaka on the first morning flight, I chose the Sazanami bento. It is one of the more affordable options at Sato Suisan. The amount of rice was just right for breakfast, and the grilled salmon was quite large. It was a bit salty though. The side dishes of spring rolls and rolled kelp were delicious. Enjoyed it with a Sapporo Classic Furano Limited Edition beer. Feeling tired, so I'll get some rest now.
