The restaurant was very crowded on Saturday at 1:30 pm during the Obon holiday. We ordered and had to wait for 30 minutes. We waited with our friends' family who came from Honshu. The finished Muroran yakitori donburi had mustard and mountain wasabi on top, with additional toppings of mountain vegetables. However, the Muroran yakitori was tough to chew. It was hard to remove from the skewer. Maybe it was because it was crowded? The curry ramen had noodles that were clumped together in the curry. Maybe it was because it was crowded? We separated the noodles and they were at a good firmness. It was a delicious meal.

I took a bath in the hot spring next door. The open-air bath offers a great view of Shiratori Ohashi Bridge, Mt. Muroran, and Mt. Usu. I thought about having lunch here, but the food menu is limited. I also considered trying the local specialty dish at the neighboring restaurant, but I'm not a big fan of surf clams. Considering my bus and limited express train connection, I couldn't make it to Muroran Station either. So, my only option around here is the roadside station. I remember coming here with friends for a walk before, and I recall that the menu was not very extensive. Despite it being a weekday, the place is quite busy during lunchtime. The main menu options are limited to chicken rice bowl, three meals bowl, curry ramen with soba or udon set. I ended up getting the chicken rice bowl and udon set for 1100 yen. The chicken rice bowl wasn't very warm, but it came with both mustard and wasabi, which was nice. It had some mountain vegetables too. I wish there was a bit more rice though. The udon was thin, and I initially thought it was just regular supermarket udon, but it turned out to have a good texture. However, the broth was a bit too strong. Compared to the Taiyo no Michi roadside station, this place was a bit disappointing in terms of menu variety. It would be nice if they had more main menu options.

In recent years, I have had to go to Muroran for business, but I always just came back without eating out. I decided to try eating out for a change, but I couldn't think of a specific restaurant I wanted to go to, so I ended up going to a roadside station. At this roadside station, you can eat Muroran specialties such as yakitori, curry ramen, and the popular uzuran soft serve. After some hesitation, I decided to order the curry ramen this time. It was served in about 5 minutes after ordering. I didn't have high expectations since it was a roadside station, but the soup had a nice curry flavor with just the right amount of spiciness. The noodles were cooked just right with a good chewy texture, but it was a bit clumpy which was a bit disappointing. I noticed there were not many people during lunchtime, but more and more people came in while I was eating, and it was bustling by the time I left. It's a good place to try out Muroran specialties when you want to. Thank you for the meal.

The roadside station is beautiful. We stopped by for a meal on our way to the nearby aquarium. The restaurant menu is not very extensive, with basically three categories: ramen, udon/soba, and yakitori. Due to the long weekend, there was a line. The 3-meal bowl I ordered (tsukune, pork skewer, chicken skewer) had slightly tough pork, but the other two items made up for it. The curry ramen and salt ramen that my family ordered were delicious without any complaints.

I had decided to have lunch in Muroran and when I saw the Michi-no-Eki (Roadside Station) I remembered the "Kujira Shokudo" located inside Muroran. I had the "Muroran Yakitori Donburi" here in February and it was delicious, so I decided to visit again. This time I tried the "Three-color Donburi Set" which includes three types of Muroran yakitori on rice with soba (or udon) for 1,000 yen including tax. When you think of "yakitori" in Muroran, it's usually made with pork. The pork and onion yakitori with Western-style mustard in between is so delicious. Having three different types of Muroran yakitori makes the meal very enjoyable. The soba is just average, nothing special, but this donburi is really delicious.

I stopped by the "Michi-no-Eki Mitarai Muroran" for a break and had lunch at the "Kujira Shokudo" with a glass-walled, open dining area overlooking the sea of Etomo and the Shiratori Ohashi bridge.
[Order]
"Muroran Yakitori Don Set" for 1,000 yen
A bowl with 3 pieces of Muroran yakitori (pork skewers with onions) and a mini soba (or udon) set.
Muroran yakitori is made with pork meat skewered with onions, a dish that originated from the Showa era when pork offal and wild birds were commonly grilled on skewers at food stalls. Over time, pork meat became more affordable and accessible than bird meat, leading to the name "yakitori" for this dish. Onions are used because they are readily available and affordable in Hokkaido, and they complement the pork meat well.
[Tasting]
I think they grill the yakitori after you order, as I waited for about 5 minutes before being called to the window seat overlooking the Shiratori Ohashi bridge to enjoy my meal. The Muroran yakitori, dipped in sauce and grilled over charcoal, is delicious. It tastes even better with the spicy mustard provided. The dish, topped with mountain vegetables, pairs well with the rice and the soba set, making it a great value for 1,000 yen. I might come back here for lunch in Muroran. Thank you for the meal! v(^ω^)v

Located in a roadside station at the foot of Shiratori Ohashi in the Muroran area, this restaurant offers various local dishes such as "Curry Ramen" and "Muroran Yakitori". I stopped by this restaurant at the roadside station in Muroran during a business trip to Date and bought a bento box for dinner. I ordered the "Muroran Yakitori Bento (670 yen)" shown in the photo. The Muroran yakitori is grilled over charcoal after ordering, so it may take some time before it is served. The bento came with three skewers, and the sauce was not too strong. The meat was tender, and the smoky flavor from the charcoal was nice. I enjoyed it, although I think it would have been even better if I had eaten it right away. They also offer set menus featuring Muroran specialties, which I think would be great for tourists as well.

Muroran specialty! At the roadside station with a beautiful view, you can enjoy Muroran specialties such as Muroran Yakitori and Curry Ramen. The Muroran Yakitori, which is actually pork skewers, is delicious with its sauce. The Curry Ramen has a flavorful soup with a good amount of spices, making it tasty! They also have quail soft-serve ice cream, so you can try various Muroran specialties conveniently at this place.

During my road station tour in July, I visited Road Station Mitarumoran and on a hot day, I decided to have a drink at the cafe. The person next to me was eating onigiri and it looked delicious, so I decided to try it too. I bought the "Muroran Omusubi" (290 yen) which comes with two pieces - one Yayan Smoked Tamago Omusubi and one Muroran Yakitori Omusubi. The Yayan Smoked Tamago Omusubi is made with a special dashi using Yayan kombu from Muroran, and the rice is a delicious "Yumepirika" from Date farm. It also contains a seasoned smoked quail egg from Muroran Quail Farm. The Muroran Yakitori Omusubi is made with Hokkaido-grown "Fukkurinko" rice and is cooked with a special dashi using homemade Muroran yakitori sauce. It also contains Muroran yakitori that is grilled in-house. Both are equally delicious and the fact that you get two pieces for 290 yen is a great deal. I will definitely buy them again when I visit this place. Thank you, "Kujira"!

Muroran Yakitori Dining Kujira Shokudo ■ 2020/9
Located on the first floor of the food court at "Minato Oasis Muroran" at the roadside station "Mitara Muroran". Operating hours are from 10:00 to 20:00, open year-round (following the facility's schedule). Opened in April 2019, the new facility includes dining tenants on the first floor, a souvenir corner, and the Shiratori Ohashi Memorial Museum on the second floor (currently closed due to the COVID-19 situation). The second floor also features an observation corner with a panoramic view of Shiratori Ohashi, the largest bridge in eastern Japan. The interior of the restaurant is simple, bright, and casual, with three tenants including a dining hall, café, and snack shop. Upon entering, guests are greeted by Taraba crabs and striped beakfish in the aquarium from a nearby aquarium. The common seating area in the food court includes counter seats for 6, tables for 2 (4), tables for 4 (8), sofa tables for 2 (3), and sofa tables for 3 (2). The window seats offer views of Shiratori Ohashi, wind turbines, marina, park, mini-golf course (actually a gateball court?), and the bird station (birdhouse). The background music is Western music, and smoking is not allowed inside the restaurant. The parking lot is huge (under the blue sky). I visited on a Saturday before 10:00 and was the first customer when the store opened. The service from the two young male and female staff members was somewhat indifferent. The main menu items (tax included) are as follows:
【Noodles】

This year, the Michi no Eki stamp rally hasn't started yet. When I go to Muroran, I always feel like crossing the Shiratori Ohashi Bridge. The view is so beautiful and it makes me excited. I never really had a proper meal when visiting a Michi no Eki, so this time I tried their curry ramen while enjoying the view of the bridge. It wasn't too crowded, and the ramen was served in about 5 minutes. It was decent, not amazing but not bad either. Curry ramen is like a magical dish - as long as you don't mess it up, it turns out tasty. I enjoyed it safely. It's just a bit disappointing that it wasn't served hotter, as that would have made it even more delicious.

I visited this restaurant for the first time while in Muroran for a meeting. Although they are known for their Muroran yakitori, I didn't have much time before my next meeting so I ordered the mountain vegetable udon, which was served quickly. I enjoyed the delicious udon while looking out at Muroran Port. I would like to come back next time to try the Muroran yakitori.

I went to the Kujira Shokudo at a roadside station for an early dinner while I was nearby. It was a little before 4 pm on a holiday, so there was no line and I was able to order right away. My husband ordered the recommended special fried chicken set for 770 yen, and I got the takeout menu item, the Muroran yakitori bento for 670 yen. We were given a number tag and waited at our seats. About 7 minutes later, we were called, and I thought, "Wow, that was fast" but... the fried chicken was hot and crispy, and the bento was warm, but the yakitori was lukewarm, not freshly grilled at all. It was tough and chewy, almost inedible! Looking back at the store, I could see a showcase with various items inside (probably kept warm). They must have grilled it at lunchtime, kept it warm, and quickly reheated it. The lack of moisture made it dry and hard. I had to spit out 3 out of the 9 pieces, they were that bad. Even the remaining 6 pieces were barely edible. This is not what Muroran yakitori should taste like. If they serve this to tourists, it will spread like wildfire on social media as "Muroran yakitori is terrible!" It's so sad. The fried chicken was delicious, and this yakitori bento would have been good if it was fresh. That's why they should ask when ordering, "We are serving reheated items at this time, is that okay with you?" They need to rethink their sales strategy. Maybe they should make it a limited-time offer, like "Muroran Yakitori Bento available for a limited time only." It might create some excitement. The service was not bad, but in terms of not considering the customers at all, I would give them a service score of 2.7. As a critique, I will rate them below the standard score in overall rating.

In the town of Shukutsu, in the city of Muroran, Hokkaido, there is a roadside station called "Mitara Muroran" where you can find a Muroran grilled chicken bento box for 650 yen. The station was opened in 1998 to commemorate the completion of the Shiraishi Ohashi Bridge, which is the largest suspension bridge in Eastern Japan spanning over Muroran Port. The station was recently renovated in April 2019, and now includes a restaurant called "Kujira Shokudo". The Muroran grilled chicken bento box contains three pieces of Muroran grilled chicken, seaweed-wrapped rice, and pickled wild vegetables, pickled radish, and wild wasabi in soy sauce. The design of the bento box is similar to the one sold at "Hasesuto", and both are equally delicious when compared side by side.

In August 2019, draft beer was 580 yen and we had two pieces of Muroran yakitori for 150 yen each. My husband took a nap during our visit to Muroran Michi-no-Eki, which was slightly renovated. The beer was only sold at this particular store for 580 yen, which felt like a tourist spot price. Surprisingly, it was served in a medium-sized plastic cup. We ordered two pieces of yakitori as a snack, which seemed pre-made and not very hot, with tough meat and a strong sauce. It was better when eaten with rice, but as a standalone yakitori, it was too salty. Well, it's Michi-no-Eki gourmet after all. Thanks for the meal.

This is a review of a lunch at a restaurant called Kujira Shokudo located at a roadside station in Muroran during a camping trip. The menu offered Muroran yakitori and Zangi, among other dishes. I ordered Zangi and Muroran yakitori, which were both delicious. The service was excellent and the overall experience was satisfying.

On the way back from Date City, I casually stopped by. It's quite crowded here, with a wait of about 20-30 minutes! But in the end, I only had to wait 10 minutes for the Muroran yakitori plate! This might be my first time trying Muroran yakitori... It's delicious! Since it's self-service, I returned my dishes and maybe I'll get some coffee at Tetsunomachi Coffee! Muroran yakitori plate for 745 yen. Thank you for the meal! (^^)v

I had lunch at "Muroran Yakitori Dining Kujira Shokudo" during my business trip to Muroran. This dining establishment is located inside the Michi-no-Eki Muroran, which was renovated this year. I ordered the "Special Fried Chicken Set" (745 yen) and it was delicious.

The title says it all. For 690 yen, it's surprisingly good, right? It has a good portion size and it's crispy while still being juicy. Judging from the speed of service and size, it seems like they use the double-fry method for a juicy and crispy texture, and it's quick too. Well, if you're sightseeing, it might be worth trying. It may lack a local feel, though.

Michi-no-Eki Mitarimaru in Muroran was renewed and reopened on April 27th. Previously, they only sold bento boxes without any meal options, but now they have a dining area and a cafe. It was quite lively even during the pre-opening. The dining area is now brighter and more spacious, allowing you to enjoy your meal while overlooking the sea, especially on sunny days. During Golden Week, there was a line at the dining area, and it took about 20 minutes to get the Muroran yakitori bento. They seemed to cook it after you order, and you could see them grilling it diligently. The meat was cooked well and slightly firm, with delicious sauce, and the soy sauce-pickled mountain wasabi on the side was a nice touch. There was also mustard available, allowing you to enjoy different flavors. The seaweed under the yakitori was tasty, and it felt like they were using good quality ingredients. Since it's a bento, you can't take it home quickly, as they seem to be making them in order.
