I visited this cake buffet that has been held since January and caught my interest. The place was far away so I was planning to go in the spring, but I found out that it was only until the end of March, so I hurriedly visited after my appointment. The interior of the restaurant, facing the river and using wood extensively, has a very nice atmosphere. Outside the window, you can see a bird feed house, so you might enjoy bird watching in the upcoming season. The cake buffet menu includes 5 regular cakes and 5 low-sugar raw cakes, with one drink included. Recently, low-sugar options have become more common in convenience stores and elsewhere. I had actually been avoiding low-sugar items until now. I like sweet things, so I thought they might be unsatisfying...so I had mixed feelings of anticipation and anxiety about this buffet. They serve 3 cakes per plate, so I decided to order 3 each. I chose to have my drink without ice since I like to drink it slowly, so I went with iceless iced coffee. For the first plate, I chose milk roll, dry fruit terrine-style cheesecake, and raw chocolate banana tart. Despite being half-sized, they were quite large, almost the size of a single cake from a small cake shop. Here are my personal thoughts on each cake:
- Milk roll: Simple but moist and soft dough with a gentle sweetness that goes well with the cream. A menu that makes you want to eat a regular-sized portion.
- Dry fruit terrine-style cheesecake: Surprisingly, it is filled with a variety of dry fruits and nuts. The large fig slice is delicious!
- Raw chocolate banana tart: I was shocked when I tasted it! Although it's a raw cake, it has an incredibly rich chocolate banana flavor. However, it's not heavy or overwhelming, and it changed my perception of this type of menu.
For the second plate, I chose Earl Grey raw cheese tart, black sesame rare cheese, and gateau chocolate. Here are my thoughts on each cake:
- Earl Grey raw cheese tart: The Earl Grey flavor is very rich and delicious.
- Black sesame rare cheese: The bottom black sesame biscuit dough is my favorite, even though the rare cheese on top with black sesame sauce is also delicious.
- Gateau chocolate: It has a firm texture, and you can feel the density when you pass the fork through it. It's delicious but the heaviest menu.
For the third plate, I chose blueberry marble tart, salted vanilla cookie sandwich, and bamboo charcoal green tea roll. Here are my thoughts on each cake:
- Blueberry marble tart: The marble pattern is visually appealing. It has a refreshing taste and is easy to eat.
- Salted vanilla cookie sandwich: The dough is delicious. The cream inside is also tasty, but the saltiness is subtle, so it didn't meet my expectations for a palate cleanser.
- Bamboo charcoal green tea roll: Both the dough and the cream are not too sweet, rich in flavor, and delicious. It makes you want to eat a regular-sized portion.
For the fourth plate, I repeated the black sesame rare cheese and dry fruit terrine-style cheesecake, and added a chiffon cake. Here are my thoughts on the chiffon cake:
- Chiffon cake: It was tea-flavored, not cocoa as shown in the picture. It's not too sweet, not dry, and it might have served as a palate cleanser.
I had finished 12 cakes by this point, and there was still time left. However, an unusual situation occurred...! Even though my stomach still had room, my brain rebelled, saying, "I've eaten enough sweet things, can't we just end it now?" It didn't listen even when I commanded that it's low-sugar and it's okay to eat more. It seems that even though it's delicious, I'm starting to find it hard to eat without something salty or spicy in between. Nevertheless, the fact that I was satisfied with a low-sugar option is the best proof. The aftertaste is refreshing, and the foundation of the biscuit dough has a good taste and texture, making it delicious enough that you probably wouldn't notice if it was placed next to a regular cake. In the future, I will try to eat things that look delicious without sticking to whether they are low-sugar or not. This buffet, which eliminated my resistance to low-sugar, was very satisfying. I would love to go again if it is held again.
