I have been curious about this place in my neighborhood for a while. When I went with a friend who loves sake on a weekday night, we were able to be seated in a private room without a reservation. The lighting was dim, which I liked, and there were many pamphlets introducing black sugar shochu and Amami Oshima, so it was interesting to look through them. We ordered sea grapes, salted pork grilled on a net, and rare fried fish, all of which were delicious. The mountain jellyfish with plum dressing served as an appetizer was perfect for snacking, and I felt that the overall level of the food was high. The selection of black sugar shochu was impressive, with so many varieties that it was hard to decide. I tried a popular brand from the ranking and a coffee shochu that caught my eye on the wall, and both were rich and delicious. The owner or manager seemed a bit reserved at first, but they explained the shochu carefully and provided friendly service. Since it's nearby, the food is delicious, and there are still more black sugar shochu to try, I'll probably go back alone soon (laughs. There was also a counter). There were still many menu items I wanted to try, so I'll be back soon. Thank you for the meal!

This was my visit to the restaurant, starting with a toast with Orion beer. I always ask for bottled beer because it's light. I had about two bottles, then switched to black sugar shochu on the rocks. I remember trying Ichiban Hashi, Manko-i, Amandi, and Takakura. The black sugar shochu is delicious, with a sweet aroma that I love. The food is also highly recommended! The delicious green papaya is a must-have for me every time. I always ask for my favorite island pickles when I don't have plans the next day. It's just so tasty. We finished with the chicken rice, which I love. We shared and enjoyed it. The food and drinks were delicious, and I left the restaurant feeling happy. I have clear preferences when it comes to food, and I love this place. I will definitely visit again. Specializing in Amami cuisine, the dishes at this restaurant such as mozuku, sea grapes, goya champuru, chicken rice, karaage, aosa dashimaki tamago, and steamed black pork and cabbage were all delicious. They also had a wide variety of alcohol options and recommended a delicious plum wine. It was all very tasty.

After eating and drinking plenty at the famous Tarafuku in Daimyo, I met up with friends after work at this restaurant. Sorry, I was drunk so I only have a picture of this menu. I really wanted my friend from Osaka to try black sugar shochu, so I brought them here. I asked the knowledgeable bartender for a recommendation and went with that. I can't remember the name, but it wasn't a famous one, yet it was thick and had a nice richness to it. My friend was very satisfied and excited to have found black sugar shochu in Osaka, they even bought some. They messaged me saying how delicious it was. For food, we ordered dishes like bitter melon stir-fry, pickled shallots, and finally, we had chicken rice which also impressed my friend. This is a charming, longstanding restaurant with a foreign atmosphere. Thank you for the meal.

Hello! Today, I visited the specialty shop "Goku-an" at Daimyo, which serves Amami cuisine. The interior of the shop is filled with posters of singers from Amami and tourist guides, making you feel like you are actually in Amami. It's impressive that they have been in business for 15 years in this competitive area. The dishes served are authentic Amami cuisine, not some imitation. They were all delicious, somewhat similar to Okinawan cuisine. The black sugar shochu was also tasty! I finished off with chicken rice, which was incredibly delicious!

Farewell party for someone leaving the company in spring. Although I have never worked directly with them, they have been reading my blog, so I was invited to the party. The venue was "Goku-an" in Daimyo. The place is surrounded by empty bottles of Amami brown sugar shochu and sometimes serves as a photo spot for Daimyo. The sign says "Amami Hometown 100 Supporters". Inside the restaurant is impressive, with nearly 100 types of brown sugar shochu and various Amami products. The all-you-can-drink menu is amazing. I tried drinks like Amami Rokucho, Choun, Kakeroma, and Ryugu. The taste is somewhat similar to rum. I'm a bit scared because it goes down smoothly. As for the food, it was a course menu. The appetizers included liver, papaya, Tobinnya (a type of shellfish), and island pickles. There was also mozuku. Tobinnya was new to me and it was fun to eat with a good texture. There was also a salad, fried tofu, red cuttlefish tempura, pork stew, Amami salted pork with garlic oil udon, and chicken rice. For dessert, there was a chocolate treat. Overall, I enjoyed a variety of food and drinks that I had never tried before. Amami was a great experience. The food was healthy if you avoided carbs, and the weight gain the next morning was minimal. I love Amami. In December 2015, amidst a light drizzle, a business partner from Kagoshima requested a restaurant in Fukuoka that specializes in Amami Oshima cuisine. I had no idea such a place existed in Daimyo! I rarely visit Daimyo, so it was a surprise. We had made a reservation for a private room, which had a seating fee of 50 yen per person. We settled into the private room and decided to start with some drinks. The drink menu was extensive, featuring over 200-300 types of shochu, Japanese rum, and awamori. It was overwhelming, so we ended up ordering beers first. After a 30-minute delay, everyone arrived, following the typical "Hakata time." We ordered various dishes and raised a toast. I noticed "Captain Kidd" on the menu, a rum that I love. The owner recommended trying it straight, so I did. The rum was served in a chilled grappa glass, and it had a strong aroma and taste, which I enjoyed. We ordered dishes like pickled island shallots and two types of island delicacies. The island delicacies were delicious, especially the island pork liver marinated in island miso. We also tried dishes like simmered pork cartilage, Goya champuru with island tofu, and chicken rice. The chicken rice was a perfect way to end the meal. The restaurant was a rare find in Fukuoka, offering a complete Amami experience. The interior was decorated with posters of Amami singers, creating a unique atmosphere. Overall, it was a delightful experience, and I look forward to exploring more culinary delights in Fukuoka.

The last year-end party of the year was on Christmas at a restaurant called "Gokuan" in Daimyo, which serves Amami Oshima's local cuisine. It was a year-end party for a certain gathering. It was fun. I visited without any information and left everything to the organizer. I wasn't familiar with Amami's local cuisine. Oh well! It was such a great restaurant! The dishes were all very delicious, but the hot pot was the best. Especially the comparison between Amami Island pork and Kagoshima black pork was a fun little event. Even though I usually get tired of pork, I was very satisfied. I also enjoyed the rice porridge and udon at the end. The atmosphere of the restaurant and the background music of island songs were nice. The posters of Amami Island hanging in the restaurant made me want to visit Amami Island. It was a restaurant full of travel emotions. All the staff at the restaurant are from Amami, which was quite interesting. I'm grateful to the organizer. ===========

When it comes to Amami cuisine, I have tried it to some extent on Amami Oshima, Kakeromajima, and Kikaijima. Even if I can't actually go to Amami, I try to at least feel Amami by visiting most of the Amami cuisine restaurants in the Kanto region. With that said, in Fukuoka, this place called "Goku-an" is, to my knowledge, the best Amami izakaya in Japan when it comes to the "food content," "variety of kokuto shochu," "atmosphere of the restaurant," and the performance (live performance of Amami folk songs with sanshin). The manager (owner) has lived in Amami for a few years, so I was impressed by his knowledge (trivia) about the food and kokuto shochu they offer. He also made various suggestions according to preferences, and I had a very enjoyable time. It would be great if there were such authentic Amami izakayas in the Kanto region.

The interior of the store is filled with Amami products, creating a slightly different atmosphere. The staff are mostly from Amami, and I love southern cuisine, so I also love Amami cuisine. I tried mountain jellyfish for the first time, and its crunchy texture was a great snack. The fried grouper, which I love, was delicious as always. The egg omelette was so creamy that it was a shame it dripped. There was a wide variety of Amami brown sugar shochu, but my favorite is still Ichiban Hashi. It has a high alcohol content of 30 degrees, but it has a refreshing taste that I love. It's not often seen in other stores, so I ended up drinking a lot. I love the food, but the pricing is a bit high, so it ended up being more expensive than usual.

The hot pot was delicious. We used it for a year-end party with colleagues. We had a private room with a sunken kotatsu table for 7 people, but it was a bit (quite?) cramped. The other rooms seemed full too, so it was quite lively and honestly, the atmosphere was not great at first. We had the Amami Island pork and chicken shabu-shabu course with all-you-can-drink. Some people couldn't drink, so we toasted with beer and oolong tea. We started with a sashimi platter, clams, and binnya (a type of fish). The table was so full that we couldn't eat comfortably as the hot pot was already set up. The sashimi was average, the clams were a delicacy, good for drinking. Then came a vegetable salad and tofu dish, but the table was too crowded, so we had to move the hot pot aside. The tofu dish was really delicious. Then it was time for the hot pot. At first, I didn't understand and started eating when it was almost cooked, only to find lots of vegetables. But then, chicken and pork kept coming. I mistimed the start of eating (embarrassed smile). The meat was delicious. I like chicken and pork, so it was just right for me. The porridge after the hot pot was also delicious. All-you-can-drink for 3 hours, with this food for 4500 yen is quite a deal. The other members were also very satisfied with the food and price. I would like to go back to this restaurant when it's less crowded and take my time.

There are courses priced at 4500, 4000, 3000, and 2500 yen. This time, I ordered the 3000 yen course. The appetizers were minced meat miso and plum seasoned mountain jellyfish, both in half-sized portions. The green salad consisted of lettuce with dried bacon bits and mayonnaise, offering a satisfying volume for vegetable lovers. The sashimi included octopus, squid, salmon, sweet shrimp, and sea bream, each in small slices with quality and freshness comparable to supermarket sashimi. The fried white fish came in two flavors: nanban-style and sweet chili, each piece the size of a sashimi slice. The bitter melon stir-fry was a highlight, featuring bitter melon, tofu, and bacon stir-fried with plenty of bonito flakes and topped with egg. It was the most delicious dish of all. The chicken rice dish was made with rice topped with shredded omelet, shredded chicken breast, shiitake mushrooms, seaweed, and green onions, all topped with chicken broth. It was light and perfect as a drink accompaniment. Overall, while the food was not bad, the portion sizes were too small. I wonder if in order to run a restaurant in the heart of Fukuoka, it is necessary to cut costs so much? There were various types of shochu available as drinks.
