I made a reservation for the 8-course meal for 3000 yen. The menu included boiled sakura shrimp salad, a selection of 3 types of spring sashimi, fresh squid sashimi, grilled chicken thigh, fried soft-shell crab and shrimp, tempura (made with leftover squid), 2 pieces of sushi, and sea bream miso soup. Everything was delicious and healthy, but the tempura was just enough to make me feel full. I couldn't resist taking a video of the live squid dish, with dry ice smoke billowing out of the shells as a nice touch. The grilled chicken thigh required some chewing, providing a satisfying texture and stimulating my appetite even more. I look forward to trying the hot pot or motsu nabe course next time.

I've been really into the fresh squid sashimi lately, priced at 2800 yen (suitable for 2 people). The flesh was sweet and delicious, probably due to being cut right before serving. The motsu nabe (offal hot pot) was on the lighter side with a salty flavor. It had a lot of cabbage and went well with the ramen at the end. It's great that you can order the motsu nabe for just one person. The other appetizers we ordered were also excellent. It's convenient that the restaurant is close to the station. It seems like there are other branches nearby as well.

When I arrived at the store right after it opened, the staff came out wearing uniforms and it was quite amusing. Was it a late arrival? Can you say it's on time? I sat down and eagerly placed my order for the over-the-top rice bowl that I had seen on social media and the website. But as you can see, it looks nothing like the advertised picture. They should just use the plate shown in the advertisement... I couldn't help but compare it to the menu picture. The water didn't come out at all, so when the rice bowl arrived, I asked if I could have some. They said it's self-service... Well, if you don't tell me, how am I supposed to know? When they brought the rice bowl, I could see there was no water, so they should have brought it too... I won't be going back, but the fish itself was fresh and the eel was soft and delicious, so it's a shame.

I went to a restaurant on Haruyoi Street in Hakata for a light drink, but the "sesame mackerel" was so disappointing that I decided to reevaluate. The second place I chose was "Sakana Ichiba," a reliable restaurant where I had been before at the end of last year. The seating was at the counter, just like last time, and since there were two of us, the counter seat was more comfortable than facing each other. [Food Experience] Since it was the second place, we started with a toast with sake! We had Fukuoka's "Kankitou" and Saga's "Nabeshima." The sake from the region was great! As for the food pairing with the local sake, the "sesame mackerel" from the previous restaurant was disappointing. Ah, that's it! A beautifully presented dish that looked delicious. When I put a piece in my mouth... Oh, it's delicious after all! The well-seasoned mackerel is delicious, but the beautiful presentation is also important. By the way, when I came last time, the live sesame mackerel was sold out, so I couldn't eat it. I just remembered that now. By the way, I also wanted to eat squid from Yobuko last time, but there was a big catch failure, and I wasn't lucky. I wonder if it's another poor catch this year... The menu also had "Live Spear Squid Sashimi" written on it, so I asked the chef just in case... Huh, there's spear squid? Then, I have no choice but to order it! Wow, this is seriously delicious! Tonight, I was able to eat both the sesame mackerel and the squid that I couldn't eat last time, so it was great! Tonight, I had a solo drink in Hakata at "Sakana Ichiba" feeling like having "sake & sashimi", so I chose this restaurant based solely on the name. [Actual Meal] Starting with a draft beer! Cheers to myself (^ ^) / The appetizer was edamame. The "Mentaiko Tamagoyaki" was unexpectedly delicious with plenty of mentaiko and served hot! Now, let's switch to local sake (^-^)/ Fukuoka's local sake "Junmai sake, Hakata no Mori" was poured to the brim of the masu cup! It was a refreshing dry sake that went well with the meal. The "Special Sashimi Assortment" included 6 types of sashimi and a bite-sized abalone. It was nice that they made it per person! The crunchy texture of the abalone was delicious. There was chu-toro, maguro (lean tuna), katsuo... it seemed like there were indeed 6 types, but what is one serving? While enjoying the buri (?), I noticed the words "Yariika Katsu-zukuri" on the wall. I happened to talk about "Yobuko squid" with a local person in Saga during the day, but they mentioned that this year, the squid catch was so low that the specialty stores were not opening. So, I didn't expect to eat it, but I asked anyway... as expected, it was not available, this year it's not just scarce, but almost impossible to catch (・_・;) Sashimi definitely goes well with sake \(//∇//)\ For the second round, I had Fukuoka's local sake "Daiginjo, Hanamasa". It was more on the dry side... not too assertive, making it an easy-to-drink sake. Hey, there's "Nama Goma Saba" that goes well with sake!... but it was sold out... I had breakfast at a hotel. The price was 1000 yen. I chose meat from three options of fish, meat, or Western-style. At the entrance, a foreign employee checked with me what I wanted, but their Japanese wasn't very good, probably because they were not used to Japan yet. They tried their best to serve me. The meat was chicken tempura. Honestly, I thought it was a bit heavy for breakfast, but since I chose the meat myself, and the batter was still crispy even when it cooled down, it was delicious. Maybe it's because it's hotel breakfast, but I thought the price of 1000 yen was a bit questionable in terms of cost performance.

At 7:50 am on September 7, 2018, I had breakfast alone at the business hotel where I stayed last night. I didn't have much of an appetite after drinking a bit too much at the party last night, but I went in for breakfast anyways. You could choose between fish and meat, and today's options were Pacific saury or chicken tempura. I would have chosen the fish if it was salmon or mackerel, but since it was grilled Pacific saury, I went with the chicken. Self-service drinks included cold water and seasoned seaweed. I took one of each and sat down. The bento box arrived quickly with rice, miso soup, and tempura sauce. The rice and miso soup were warm, but the bento box was clearly pre-made, and the tempura was slightly warm at best. The tamagoyaki (rolled omelette) being cold was understandable. Due to my weak stomach from the alcohol, I only had a bite of miso soup and chicken tempura, along with placing a piece of seasoned seaweed on top of the rice. I'm very sorry for not being able to fully enjoy the meal. Thank you for the meal.

When you come to Hakata, the first thing to check is whether they have Hakata's famous squid in Yobuko. They had it! We had it as sashimi and finished with tempura. Thank you for the delicious meal!

The usual fresh squid sashimi. Delicious. I thoroughly enjoyed it. The tempura was of sand lance fish! Kyushu is known for sand lance fish after all! The sake was also a local one.

There is a budget hotel called Sunlife Hotel 2-3 located on the Chikushi side of Hakata Station in Fukuoka. The breakfast at this hotel is not a buffet, but you can choose from a Japanese set meal (with tempura chicken), a Japanese set meal (with grilled fish), or a Western set meal (with scrambled eggs, etc.). There are several fish markets around this area, and they often serve fresh and delicious sashimi, which is great for entertaining guests. Today, I had the Japanese set meal (with tempura chicken) with rice, miso soup, and coffee (with free refills). The tempura chicken was delicious with a lightly sweet batter and crispy, fresh chicken. The homemade tofu was firm and flavorful, and the side dishes like mentaiko (spicy cod roe) and pickled plum were also good. The miso soup and sweet soy sauce were tasty as well. The price is around 1000 yen if you're not staying at the hotel, but it may not be worth it. Overall, I was satisfied and enjoyed a delicious meal. The staff, who appeared to be foreigners, provided good service. The restaurant is small, so it might be cramped at night. Thank you for the meal.

I used the breakfast at the Sunlife Hotel in front of Hakata Station. Since the Sunlife Hotel itself was not registered, I will review it here. By the way, there is no dining facility at the Sunlife Hotel, and it seems that breakfast is taken here. Breakfast was a choice of three types. I chose the chicken tempura set, which was unexpectedly a big hit. Although the tempura was cold, it had large pieces of meat, and the taste was good. The dried radish and tofu that came with it were also quite good, and above all, the mentaiko was amazing! Well, I was satisfied. I got energy from the morning.

Breakfast during a business trip in Fukuoka in December 2017. Ate at the "Sakanamarket Sunlife 2nd Building Store" located next to the lobby on the 1st floor of the hotel "Sunlife". There were options to choose from a meat-based Japanese set meal, a fish-based Japanese set meal, or a Western set meal. I chose the meat-based Japanese set meal which cost 1,000 yen if paid separately, but it was included in my accommodation package. The meal included side dishes, tofu, salad, tamagoyaki, mentaiko, umeboshi, shiokonbu, pickles, toriten, miso soup, and rice. There were also other options like natto and seasoned seaweed which I didn't try. The quality of the meal was excellent, especially for a business hotel breakfast. Fukuoka's breakfast offerings are impressive, comparable to those in Sapporo. Overall, it was a satisfying start to the day. Thank you for the meal!

I visited Fukuoka on a business trip and stayed near Hakata Station. I was looking for a place where I could enjoy delicious fish, and I found this restaurant. It was great that hotel guests could enjoy a complimentary drink and there was no need for inconvenient travel. We had a variety of fresh sashimi and live spear squid, which sparked lively conversations. The atmosphere of the restaurant was also nice and cozy. It was surprising that the restroom was located on the first floor of the hotel front desk, but overall it was a great restaurant.

Today, on September 14th (evening), it was "No Overtime Day" so I went to an izakaya (Japanese pub) from 5:30 pm! The izakaya is located in front of Hakata Station, Chikushi Exit, and if you enter before 6 pm, you can get a draft beer for just 1 yen which is very attractive. There are many izakayas near Hakata Station, and they offer special deals for early customers. Until 6 pm, you can get a draft beer for 100 yen per glass or even just 1 yen for one glass, which is amazing. This time, I decided to go for the shochu keep plan. The izakaya is located on the 1st floor of a hotel near the station, and there were many businessmen but not many tourists. Today, I enjoyed drinking early, so I will do my best at work tomorrow!

One day in April of the 28th year of Heisei, I stayed at Sunlife Hotel 2 in Fukuoka for a business trip, and by chance, it was a plan with breakfast included. I went to the breakfast venue on the 1st floor called "Sakana Ichiba". I handed over the "breakfast voucher" I received from the front desk the day before, and I was able to choose between a Japanese breakfast, a tempura breakfast, a grilled fish breakfast, or a Western breakfast. Without any hesitation, I chose the tempura breakfast and waited at a table. Shortly after, my tempura breakfast was brought to me, and I couldn't wait to eat it! When I checked the tempura breakfast, it included rice, miso soup, simmered hijiki seaweed, rolled omelette, mashed pickled plum, kelp, mentaiko (spicy cod roe), pickled mustard greens, tofu, shredded cabbage, tempura chicken, and tempura sauce. I also got some natto from the self-service area, so I tried eating the tempura with rice and natto. Even though I thought the tempura might have been pre-made since it arrived so quickly, it was still incredibly delicious. Eating a hearty breakfast in the morning gave me the energy I needed for work that day.

I took a night bus from Hakata to Tokyo to head back home. On the way to the bus terminal, I saw a sign that said "1 beer for 1 yen until 6 pm" and decided to stop by for dinner and a drink. The seafood bowl and beer cost me less than 1000 yen, and the fish was delicious since it's a specialty store. It was the perfect way to end my trip. The staff even offered to keep my suitcase for me, and they seemed to cater well to travelers at this Shinkansen station front store. Overall, they were very thoughtful and accommodating.
