When it starts to get chilly, you start craving hot pot! On this day, I wanted to eat something warm with my friends, so we decided on shabu-shabu. We went to Shabu Shabu Butabuta in between Shinsaibashi and Nagahoribashi. The restaurant on the 3rd floor of the Il Street building was quite lively with a raised tatami seating area in the front and tables in the back.
There are three shabu-shabu courses:
- Red-haired Kishu Umepork Shabu-Shabu for 4,000 yen
- Red-haired Kishu Umepork and Black-haired A5 Rank Wagyu Classita Shabu-Shabu for 5,000 yen
- Red-haired Kishu Umepork and Black-haired Wagyu Marbled Tongue Shabu-Shabu for 6,000 yen
Although I felt like having beef, when it comes to shabu-shabu, pork is the way to go, right? So, I made a reservation for the 4,000 yen course. The course includes:
- Edamame
- Roast pork salad
- Assorted fried skewers
- Shabu-shabu
- Udon or ramen for the finishing dish
- Dessert
For the shabu-shabu, there were ponzu and sesame sauces ready for dipping, allowing you to enjoy both the refreshing and rich flavors. I like to dip and eat with both sauces! The edamame was firm and delicious, and the roast pork salad with a ponzu-based dressing was a refreshing combination.
The fried skewers included eggplant, pork belly, and shoulder loin, which were lightly breaded and crispy, making them very tasty. The shabu-shabu was a delightful experience with four different cuts of red-haired Kishu Umepork - belly, thigh, shoulder loin, and loin. Each cut had a distinct flavor, allowing you to easily distinguish the differences in taste.
For the finishing dish, I chose udon, which was smooth and easy to eat. The dessert was yuzu sherbet, providing a refreshing end to the meal. Considering it was a 4,000 yen course, I didn't have high expectations for the non-hot pot dishes, but I was pleasantly surprised by the variety and value. With the delicious pork, I can only imagine that the beef would be just as good. It seems like this place would be very convenient during this season.
