Located directly connected to Namba Station on the Nankai Electric Railway, this shop in the basement of "Osaka Takashimaya" is a branch of a long-established eel restaurant founded in Keio 3 (1867). It is a popular shop that covers the four major department store basements in Osaka. I visited during the time before noon, and surprisingly, I was able to buy without waiting in line due to the "midsummer day of the ox". They offer a wide variety of eel dishes based on volume. I chose to try something different with the "Grilled and Boiled Eel Bento Box". It is not as big as the sample displayed at the store, but it includes grilled eel and boiled eel. The eel sauce-flavored rice can be eaten as it is. The grilled eel is delicious, but the boiled eel with wasabi is exceptional. You can easily enjoy the taste of a long-established restaurant.

In the heart of Minami, Namba, at the Depachika of Takashimaya, there is a shop where you can get eel. I wanted to avoid the long lines on the day of the Ox in midsummer, so I got my eel early. They had different sizes of eel available, and I decided to go for the large size. I also bought some liver to go with it. When I got home, I warmed them up and placed them on top of freshly cooked rice, sprinkled with sansho pepper. It was delicious! Just be careful with the strong sansho pepper. The liver was a bit salty, so I recommend diluting it a bit more than the recommended amount. Will this help me get through the summer this year?

I stopped by Takashimaya in Namba to pick up an eel bento box. I headed straight to the basement floor and found Uoichi. Whenever I come to Osaka, I always eat eel at an eel restaurant or get this eel bento box to go. Today, I decided to go light and chose the "black fold" eel bento box. For your information, the "red fold" has 3 pieces of eel, while the "black fold" has 4 pieces. This eel bento box tastes delicious even when it's cold. Since I didn't have access to a microwave today, I ate it as is, and it was no problem. The eel is broiled, so even if the gelatinous substance solidifies and becomes firm, it didn't bother me. The eel and rice are both well-seasoned, even though there's no sauce provided. I usually prefer a whole eel with the eel rice bowl, but for a bento box, this amount is sufficient.

I must express my dissatisfaction with the eel scene in Osaka. Why are there so few open restaurants during Golden Week? Oh, it's already August, so I should save my complaints for next year?... Whatever. Now, everything about Golden Week seems like a distant memory. When I arrived in Osaka looking forward to enjoying the local grilled eel, the reality I faced was a "reverse Mary Celeste situation" where eel specialty stores were all closed. I won't explain the term "reverse Mary Celeste situation" because I made it up during my chuunibyou phase. In the end, the only eel I ate in Osaka during Golden Week was from a department store near Umeda Station, and it turned out to be a Kanto-style eel, which was a big disappointment for me as I was expecting the Kansai-style grilled eel. I wondered if I would never be able to eat Kansai-style grilled eel again... However, I found a savior in a store selling eel in the basement of a department store in Namba, which I discovered with my natural instinct. I immediately bought an eel bento and happily returned to my hotel. The eel I ate at the hotel was delicious, reminiscent of the eel from a rural restaurant in Kyushu. I wished they had put more eel on it even if it meant paying 4000 yen. I imagined it would be even more delicious if it were freshly grilled and crispy. Therefore, the purpose of my next trip to Osaka has expanded to visiting this store's operating location and eating freshly grilled eel. I regret not noticing this store's existence sooner and shed tears of frustration every day.

I purchased an eel bento box and eel roll as a souvenir for my husband. He was very pleased with the plump and chewy eel. The eel roll was also delicious with a rich dashi flavor.

I'm tired... so I decided to treat myself with some eel! This restaurant is well-known for its eel dishes. They only sell them here, they don't cook them on the spot. The service is quick and efficient, and the staff are friendly. - Una-maki (small): A good portion size for a light meal. The tamagoyaki (rolled omelette) is filled with finely chopped eel that is rich in flavor. The tamagoyaki is not too sweet, so it might not be satisfying for those who prefer sweeter flavors. Eel sauce is not included, I wonder if it's sold separately? - Liver skewers (small): I like the bitterness of these. I asked for some sansho pepper to sprinkle on top. Surprisingly, it's not bitter at all! The eel sauce flavor and aroma, as well as the bitterness, are all subtle. Even those who don't like liver might enjoy this. It's a perfect snack to munch on. Thank you for the meal.

I went to Fishai's place at Osaka Takashimaya to find something to eat at home. I was originally thinking of getting a regular eel bento, but then I saw the "mamushi bento" and decided to try it. When I opened the bento, the eel was inside as promised. I heated it in the microwave for about 5 minutes. Normally, I would eat unaju or unadon, but this was my first time trying the mamushi bento. My impression is that the regular unaju or unadon tastes better. As mentioned in the note, you are supposed to steam the eel with the hot rice, but I still think grilling is the best way to enjoy it.

Arrived in Osaka on the first day of assignment. Snow was falling in Osaka. Visited the office in Yodoyabashi and went to greet a business partner in Sakai with colleagues. Finished today's schedule in the evening. Luckily, tonight is free. Feeling like relaxing at the hotel to prepare for drinking from tomorrow, parted ways with colleagues at Nankai Namba Station and went to the food section of Takashimaya. Found a shop called "Unagi no Uoi Takashimaya Osaka Store." Purchased the Takashimaya Osaka store limited "Mamushi Bento (2,268 yen tax included)!" Also bought seaweed salad and vegetable salad at the convenience store in front of the hotel. Warmed up the Mamushi Bento in the microwave... "Mamushi" means steaming eel sandwiched between hot rice. Couldn't see the eel when opening the lid. Slowly enjoyed the rice like an archaeological excavation and found a beautifully grilled eel! With many drinking parties expected during my 25-year return to work in Osaka, I will work safely while keeping my health in mind.

I had dinner at the eel specialty shop "Unagi no Uoi" in the Takashimaya department store basement today! There were a few people lined up in front of the shop buying eel, so I assume they are also having eel for dinner tonight. I purchased the regular size (2,916 yen) and the extra-large (3,456 yen) of the eel kabayaki from Shizuoka. As soon as I opened the box, a delicious smell of eel filled the air... and when I heated it up and tasted it, it was indeed very delicious. Unlike eel bought from supermarkets around here, it was tender, with a good balance of sauce.

Today is the day of the Ox in midsummer. After 5 o'clock in the afternoon, my wife decided to buy eel at the food department of Takashimaya before closing the store. I quickly finished closing the store at 7 o'clock, crossed the red Shin-Ukibashi bridge over the Dotombori River, and entered Namba Walk from Sennichimae Street. To my surprise, there was a long line at Edogawa-san. Amazing, isn't it? When I returned home, my 21-year-old second son was already home, which was unusual. I changed into my room clothes and then it was time for the awaited eel bowl and liver soup. We sprinkled some sansho pepper and enjoyed it with the whole family. The Kansai-style grilling over charcoal was delicious indeed. The crispy skin that was grilled to perfection and the slightly chewy texture of the bones were satisfying. The sauce was also generously poured over, making it even more delicious. On the other hand, the liver soup was refreshingly light. Even though our foreheads were glistening with sweat, we didn't mind at all. I finished eating first as usual. "Ah, happiness!" (^O^)/

In the basement of Takashimaya in Namba, there is a famous eel restaurant called Uoichisai. I visited there on the day of the midsummer day of the ox, but there was a long line, so I gave up and tried again on another day. This time, it was not crowded at all and I was able to buy eel bento and grilled eel head, which is not commonly seen in Tokyo. I warmed them up in the microwave and enjoyed them with some sake. The eel was incredibly delicious. Just be careful with the Sansho pepper that comes with Uoichisai's eel, as it is much spicier than others.

I wanted to eat tamagoyaki from a department store, but I found an eel roll here and decided to get it instead. It was sold chilled, so I debated whether to heat it up, but ended up eating it as is... It would have been better warmed up (lol). The eel was tough and the tamagoyaki itself lacked flavor, it was so-so. I have a feeling it would be delicious if I had some eel bowl sauce to pour over it.

When I go to Takashimaya, I often buy eel liver or a drinking set. This time, the eel roll I bought seemed to be missing eel in one of the two pieces, so it was just a broth roll. Oh well, these things happen. Drinking set: 1000 yen (excluding tax)

Today is Respect for the Aged Day. I was unsure of what to get for my elderly parents as a gift, but I decided to treat them to something nice to eat, so I chose eel. I went to the food section at Osaka Takashimaya and picked out an eel set from "Unagi no Sakana I" that included kabayaki and shirayaki, perfect for Respect for the Aged Day. I brought it back to my parents' house and we enjoyed it together. The portion size may have been a bit small, but just right for elderly people. The contrast between the savory kabayaki and the light shirayaki was delightful. The seasoning was light and elegant. I'm glad they enjoyed it. Sometimes, indulging in a little luxury is nice.

"This is so typical of an eel restaurant." On Setsubun, at this store in Takashimaya Namba, I found eel sushi rolls generously seasoned with eel sauce. Although I haven't been there myself, "Unagi no Uoi" is a popular eel restaurant with its main store in Takatonosho, Osaka. What they were selling was eel sushi rolls. I have had eel sushi using grilled eel at other places before, but this time I purchased the "tare maki," which is sushi rolls made using the sauce typically used for grilling eel mixed with rice. The sauce blends well with the rice, enhancing the flavor of the grilled eel inside. The sushi rolls I had this time were truly a masterpiece that could be called a "handheld eel bowl." I find this unique way of enjoying eel very interesting, so I would like to try it again in the future.

This is a famous eel restaurant in Kansai. The main store is located in Sekime Takadono. They have a branch in Takashimaya where you can enjoy eel dishes made with domestic eel. We often have it for dinner. Recently, eel has become expensive, so we are grateful for it. The eel rice bowl is not very plump, but the taste is definitely delicious. It seems tastier when warmed up. It is quite satisfying to eat, but as you gradually finish it, you may feel a bit lonely. They also sell eel rolls, and all the flavors are delicious. The combination of sake, eel rice bowl, eel rolls, and eel liver is the best.
