The restaurant, called Hozenji Yamakazu, specializes in using a whole large domestic eel in their unagi dishes, offering them at special prices without worrying about profit margins. On December 1st, a new store opened in Hozenji Yokocho, focusing on domestic eel. The restaurant has a traditional atmosphere that matches the quaint street it's located on. Their signature dish is a grilled eel dish made with a whole eel, priced at 6490 yen. Although it may seem expensive, the dish features a large 3.5p (285g) eel from Mikawa, making it quite a deal considering the size. The dish includes 400g of rice and a total weight of nearly 700g, making it a great value for the price. It takes about 20 minutes to prepare the eel on a charcoal grill, and the presentation in a large box is quite impressive. The eel is tender and flavorful, with a crispy skin and a well-balanced sauce. Adding black pepper or shichimi spice enhances the aroma and flavor even more. Despite the initially overwhelming size, the dish is so delicious that it's quickly devoured. Visited on September 22, 2023. At first glance, the cost performance may seem poor, but the amount of eel is generous and satisfaction is high ✨ The service speed is fast, so it doesn't seem to be the style of grilling eel from raw. I also ordered an eel roll, but they said they were sold out, so it seems like they serve what they have prepared. The taste is average. Considering the amount, I think the cost performance is good. The hitsumabushi has a very delicious broth, and although I don't usually have ochazuke, I recommend it here ✨

The service and food at this restaurant were excellent. I also enjoyed the grilled liver. The atmosphere of the alley leading to the restaurant in Hozenji Yokocho was very nice. We dined at the counter seat right by the entrance, where we could see the kitchen, which was very enjoyable. I got the impression that more than 80% of the customers were from overseas.

I visited a place I had been wanting to go to while on a business trip. I ordered the scallop tartare and a local grilled fish, Kansai-style with the head still on and belly opened. It was not steamed, so the fat was rich and the surface was crispy. The sauce was slightly sweet, and the eel skin was sticky, a taste that you can't find in Tokyo. If I had to say one thing, a stronger, richer flavor would be even better! The restaurant was very crowded, so I recommend making a reservation before going.

I had a request to eat delicious eel and salmon roe, so I brought them here! The eel would have been perfect with a little more fat and crispy skin, but it was still delicious! The eel roll and eel liver were also excellent. I enjoyed my meal today, thank you very much! Grateful!

Anyway, the portion was generous. The grilled eel was crispy and the sauce was delicious, while the sea urchin was rich and creamy especially when mixed with the egg. I also enjoyed the side dishes of steamed egg custard and clear soup. I thought about ordering the grilled fish if I was still hungry, but one dish was enough to fill me up. I look forward to trying a different menu next time. Thank you very much. It was a feast.

I was torn between the very large eel and sea urchin, but decided to go with the eel for my first time. The skin was crispy and the inside was fluffy, cooked just how I like it. The rice was also plentiful, so for those with a small appetite, half a serving might be enough. It was very delicious and I managed to finish it all. The Sichuan pepper on top was also really tasty! Next time, I definitely want to try the sea urchin dish.

The atmosphere was very calm and the staff were friendly and took our orders. When I opened the lid, I was surprised to see eel and sea urchin! It was so exciting. I was so full that I didn't need to eat dinner that night. I'm curious about trying the hitsumabushi next time! Thank you for the meal.

My friend was invited to a restaurant, so I joined them! We had a box with one whole eel and hitsumabushi. The eel was fluffy and fragrant, very delicious. However, the balance of rice and eel was a bit off. Also, it was disappointing that the hitsumabushi broth wasn't piping hot. Maybe it will improve over time. The first floor had counter tables and was full of Asian travelers.

I visited the eel restaurant Yama Kazu at Hozenji, which I had been curious about for a while. The inside of the shop had a delicious smell of grilled eel, making the atmosphere great! I enjoyed the hitsumabushi that I had been wanting to eat, with a generous amount. My companion ordered the two-color bowl with eel and sea urchin, and was impressed by the deliciousness. We were also very satisfied with the friendly service of the staff, and grateful for the enjoyable and delicious meal.

I felt like eating eel, so I made a reservation and visited the restaurant. It seemed like it was almost fully booked, with most people having made reservations. The table seats were spacious and I could relax comfortably. The staff seemed a bit inexperienced still. The eel dish was very generous in portion. It was served as a whole piece, and even when I tried to cut it with chopsticks, it was thick and chewy, with a lot of meat. I asked for less rice, but it was still quite a lot. There were many types of pickles, and the eel liver was also extra-large. I felt extremely full after eating, as the portion was huge. It might be too much for women to finish a whole piece. When I went to Osaka with three drinking buddies, we decided to have lunch at a random restaurant. It was located in the bustling Hozenji Yokocho, a popular spot for tourists. There was a long line in front of a nearby yakiniku restaurant, but we were able to enter this restaurant without waiting. It seemed like the high prices for eel dishes were a deterrent for some people. Upon entering, we were seated at a spacious table to the right, while the counter to the left was occupied by a solo diner. The lunch menu offered various eel dishes like kabayaki, unagi-don, and combination bowls, but not many side dishes. Perhaps they wanted to avoid customers getting too drunk during lunchtime. We decided to splurge a bit and ordered the jitateju (one whole eel) for over 7000 yen including beer. While the taste was satisfying, opting for a more budget-friendly option like unagi-don might have been a better choice for lunch.

Namba ◇ Eel ◇ [Namba 1-chome, Chuo-ku] We made a reservation for the New Year at the newly opened restaurant "Jiyaki Unagi Hozojiyama Kazu" in Hozoji Yokocho. We visited with two people. On this day, the counter seats were fully booked with reservations, so we were seated at a table. We started with beer as it takes about 20 minutes for the eel to be grilled. We decided to order some appetizers while waiting. The menu did not have any descriptions, but we ordered: ◆ Grilled Eel Liver (1100 yen) ◆ Grilled Eel Set, One Whole (6490 yen) ■ Super Dry Beer ■ Kenhachi Whiskey on the Rocks After about 5 minutes, the grilled eel liver was ready. It was larger than expected, and the flavor of the sauce complemented the whiskey well. The main dish, the grilled eel, was ready in 18 minutes and brought to us. My partner ordered the grilled eel with rice, and when the lid of the heavy ceramic and cypress container was opened, the whole eel was revealed. It was a substantial amount of food, equivalent to about three rice bowls. The eel was tender and lightly seasoned with a slightly sweet sauce. The hizumabushi style, where you mix the eel with rice, was more delicious than eating the eel on its own. The eel liver was also large and tasty. We wanted to order eel rolls, but we were already quite full. "Thank you for the meal."

It's been years since I last ate eel at a proper restaurant. I bought some discounted domestic eel with a half-price sticker at the supermarket, cooked it in my fancy rice cooker, and paired it with some high-quality rice at home. The price difference between eating out and eating at home didn't bother me much, so I used to prefer eel bowls at home. However, after trying out this restaurant, I must say it was amazing. The liver grilled as an appetizer was delicious, and the eel bowl was simply outstanding. The eel was fluffy with a rich flavor, and the sauce was top-notch. I also love sea urchin, so I added it to one of the eel bowls for that extra touch. Overall, it was a fantastic experience at the eel restaurant. This is a new eel restaurant that opened in Hasshoji Yokocho. It used to be a shrimp restaurant in the same location. We made a reservation and visited as usual with two people. We were seated at a table. Both of us ordered a whole grilled eel. We waited while drinking beer. It arrived. It looks similar to the style of the fourth generation "Kikukawa". We started eating right away. The skin was crispy. The meat was relatively tender. However, the sauce felt a bit light and lacking in flavor. I think it would be even more delicious if the sauce had more umami. The eel liver was delicious. The portion size was quite generous.

Recently, I often saw this shop on SNS and was curious, so I decided to visit it to satisfy my craving for delicious eel. This shop just opened on December 1st and is located in the quaint Hozenji Yokocho. The exterior and interior of the shop have a traditional Japanese house style. The first floor has a counter and tables, the second floor has private rooms and tables, and the third floor has a spacious tatami area. The atmosphere is amazing. The eel grilling chef behind the counter looks like he can cook up some delicious eel. I ordered the following: - Jiyaki Juu (Grilled Eel Set): The presentation of this dish is stunning. The eel is domestically sourced, specifically from Aichi, Mikawa. The eel grilled over charcoal is crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside, it's unbelievably delicious. The liver soup was also delicious. - Unakimo Yaki (Grilled Eel Liver): A must-try for liver lovers. It was so delicious that my companion and I fought over it. Overall, the food was incredibly tasty. The nostalgic and warm atmosphere of the restaurant enhanced the deliciousness of the eel. The service was great, and we enjoyed our meal comfortably. Good morning. I've been craving eel recently, so I went back to Osaka and visited a new restaurant called Hozanji Unagi. The grilled eel and steamed eel dishes were both delicious, with a nice crispy texture. While waiting for the eel to be grilled, we ordered various appetizers, and everything was delicious. They don't have eel rolls on the menu, but if you ask, they will make them for you. The rolled omelet was perfect. I heard that the restaurant recently opened, so I thought the chefs might be young, but they were actually two experienced veterans. Perhaps they started this restaurant after leaving a famous one. I definitely want to visit this delicious restaurant again.
