During the cherry blossom season, I ran from 7 am to Mitsui Temple, admiring the canola flowers and cherry blossoms along the waterway, and passing through the weeping cherry trees on Hanaki Road. I made a reservation for a visit to Kamigamo Shrine at 10:30 am. When the restaurant opened at 11 am, there was already a long line, but luckily I had made a reservation. I sat at the counter, with a silver elderly couple on either side. I ordered the Hamburg steak set meal (now priced at 1,500 yen). The vegetables were steamed on the hot plate and served with care (radish, broccoli, carrot, eggplant, shiitake mushrooms, especially the king oyster mushrooms were delicious). I leisurely enjoyed the salad, observing the coordinated work of Chef Asai and the three staff members in the kitchen, while the two staff members in the dining area were relaxed. The Hamburg steak was served with a demi-glace sauce pond. When I cut into it slowly, the juices overflowed. The thickness of the demi-glace sauce enhanced the flavor of the meat even more. I enjoyed the meal with the vegetables and finished them all. I cut the two pieces of Hamburg steak into small pieces, mixed them with rice, and ate it with a spoon, transforming it into a delicious Hayashi rice. I was full by the end, and even the last iced coffee had a rich bitterness to it. I felt that it was a great deal for 1,500 yen. I also saw a children's lunch menu (around 1,000 yen), so I might come back for my grandchild's birthday next time.

Asai Shokudo celebrated its 9th anniversary on September 3rd. People were lining up before the 11:00 am opening! I made a reservation and revisited for a second round. The teppan hamburger steak was packed with meat and had a firm texture, and when mixed with their homemade demi-glace sauce, it was so delicious that I couldn't stop eating. The shrimp fry, minced cutlet, and shrimp cream croquette were also tasty, making it hard to decide on the menu. As a representative Western-style restaurant in Kyoto, I hope they continue to thrive in their 10th year!

I heard from a friend about a delicious restaurant and we were torn between Sancho in Kawaramachi and this place, so we decided to go here. It's located about a 15-minute walk from Kitaoji Station in a residential area. We relied on navigation and arrived all sweaty (lol). The restaurant has an old-fashioned Western-style feel to it. It's small, but it was nice that there were separate baskets to store our belongings for each person. We were seated in a cool spot where the air conditioning breeze hit us (lol). The staff were also very friendly! I couldn't decide between the shrimp fry, so I ended up getting the hamburger and cream croquette set. I think it was around 1400 yen? You can choose between bread and rice. I chose rice, but when I looked around, I was surprised by the size of the bread! (O_O) I've mostly seen small bread rolls that come with sets, so it was my first time seeing such a large baguette (lol). I wonder if you can get refills of this bread? The food looked delicious, with the carrot in the salad being colorful and the presentation being extravagant. The hamburger was quite meaty and made me want to cut it with a knife rather than chopsticks. The demi-glace sauce was not too sweet. The cream croquette was delicious (๑˃̵ᴗ˂̵). The set comes with a drink included. You can choose between black tea or coffee, and even wine! For those who can drink wine, it's a great deal! By the way, payment is cash only.

People of all ages and genders are having a great time chatting while enjoying their meals. The restaurant is breezy and comfortable. The pizza, which I haven't had in a while, has a thin and chewy crust. It seems like they will have private events in mid-June. It might be a good idea to call ahead before going.

Hamburger for 1500 yen on weekdays, but the table seats were full when I arrived so it might be better to make a reservation! It was delicious! I'm not sure how to describe the demi-glace sauce, but it had a rich flavor. Personally, I prefer a sweeter taste, but it was good.

I came to a diner in Kyoto! Asai Shokudo! It's in a residential area but it was packed at lunchtime!! Amazing - more like a Western-style restaurant than a diner. There are plenty of menu options and it's great. I ordered the hamburger!! It was an old-fashioned style hamburger!!

It's been a while since I visited Asai-san's place, and as always, it was bustling. Reservations are necessary, and they can accommodate groups of around 10 people. People were enjoying delicious food and drinks. Today, the pancakes are a must-try, especially the strawberry pancakes with fresh fruits. Unfortunately, they were sold out.

I made a reservation and went to the restaurant. I had the lunch set with hamburger and shrimp cream croquette. The strawberry waffle afterwards was incredibly delicious! The waffle had a generous amount of fluffy whipped cream on top (which was light), and sweet strawberries piled on top. It was just right for sharing as a dessert for two. When we left, there was a line outside, so making a reservation was definitely the right choice, maybe?

The hamburger itself was a bit on the lighter side, maybe more suitable for women? The coffee after the meal was also delicious. Will I go back again? Not sure.

After the end of the pandemic, and with appearances on TV, Asai-san has fully recovered and the restaurant now requires reservations again. I visited a Western-style restaurant that I had been curious about on a weekday afternoon. Upon arrival, we were asked to write down our name and phone number before entering the restaurant. If the wait seemed long, we could explore the nearby area! The prices had gone up a bit, but the vegetables were beautifully arranged and colorful. The shrimp cream croquette was creamy and hot. It seems that the specialty here is the demi-glace sauce, which had a tangy flavor that wasn't too heavy. The hamburger with the demi-glace sauce was delicious. They were also selling their original demi-glace sauce. We arrived around 2:00 PM and there were already two groups of customers. I noticed many people getting takeout, so it seems like this place is loved by the locals. The restaurant had drawings that looked like they were done by children displayed, making it a place loved by people of all ages and genders.

We had a 5-year-old girl's birthday party at a small restaurant. The chef's singing voice echoed throughout the place. It's a nice restaurant in town. We ordered charcuterie for the first time (such as ham and pate), and it was enjoyable and recommended. You can have delicious and fun meals there.

Everyone looks like they're having a good time with wine and highballs. This month's pasta choice was a good one, with large chunks of minced meat giving it a satisfying texture. It came with bread and salad, making it a hearty meal. The master's beard was quite charming and surprisingly suited him well.

Located right near Shimogamo Shrine, this restaurant is nestled in a residential area. In my opinion, the hamburger dish I had here recently was the most delicious I've had in a while. While Demachi Futaba is famous in the Shimogamo area, I have a feeling that this place might become just as renowned for its quality.

Visited around 1:40 p.m. on a regular day. There was only one group in the restaurant. I ordered the hamburger lunch set with rice. The hamburger was a large oval-shaped patty, cooked well inside and had a satisfying texture. The sauce had a rich wine flavor, which I wanted to savor slowly rather than just eat quickly. The coffee was also delicious.

I finally visited Asai Shokudo as I had been wanting to. The old-school hamburger was delightful. The movements in the kitchen, where a grill-specific iron plate seemed to be in place, were also fascinating to watch. The area north of Imadegawa Street in Kyoto boasts one of the best quality and scale of Western-style dining cultures in Japan. In the contact zone between modern suburban residential areas (Shimogamo) and former industrial clusters (Nishijin), the dining culture, seasoned with the liberal arts philosophy of the universities in the northern part of Kyoto, has blossomed.

Menchi-katsu (hamburg steak flavor), ebi-fry (even the tail is delicious), cream croquette (authentic cream) - if you're unsure, you can't go wrong with these. They are all delicious with plenty of vegetables and tasty salad. They made sure to ask if I had enough rice. Highly recommended!

The aroma of mushrooms and the savory saltiness of the prosciutto are delicious. When eaten slowly, the cream sauce becomes rich over time, and the bread that comes with it is moist and delicious. It seems like they use good ingredients. It's really tasty.

The staff was kind and I was able to eat a set of shrimp cream croquette and hamburger. I didn't really like cream croquettes before, but I came to like them now. Shrimp cream croquettes are amazing. I forgot to take a photo, but the fried oysters and pizza at the delicious Western-style restaurant were so good! The rumored waffles were crispy and delicious. I recommend the top part to those who like whipped cream, and enjoy it with ice cream.
