I was drawn to this place by its appearance and decided to visit for lunch the day after the annual Kibune riverside dining event. It was just me and another guy, and we were impressed by the attention to detail. When the dishes arrived, I couldn't help but let out a sound of amazement. The food was fantastic. I felt excited. The combinations were up to you. I'm not sure how to best eat them, whether to roll them up or eat them as they are. But it doesn't matter. Whether you eat them as is, roll them up, or eat them with rice, the way they are prepared with vegetables and fruit is amazing. I want to bring someone else here. I definitely want to come back to this restaurant. Thank you for the meal.

Renovated store in a townhouse that's been around for 80 years. The entrance is understated, almost easy to miss. Pass through the gate, walk down the path lined with seasonal plants, and arrive at the back door of the mansion. This shop's menu mainly consists of hand-rolled sushi. What's interesting is that it's completely vegan, with a variety of 12 side dishes surrounding seasonal vegetables. The sides include tempura, side dishes, and fruit, neatly arranged with plenty of condiments for flavor. There are no rules on how to eat, just roll it in seaweed and enjoy. The rice is seasoned with citrus vinegar, which pairs perfectly with all the sides, especially in spring. The soup is a cold soy milk soup that brings a refreshing feeling to the body. Although I didn't order any this time, they also have a selection of sake and original cocktails. The cozy atmosphere in the shop makes it feel like you could relax there forever if there were no time limits. Laughed a lot.

My sister in Kyoto made a reservation for us. From Kawaramachi, head south on Shijo Street, then turn left (east) at the intersection with Matsubara Street, and turn right just before the bridge to find the entrance on your right. It may be a bit tricky to find, but once you enter the quaint alley and open the door, you'll feel a soft, gentle brightness. Be careful as the entrance door is a bit low, so watch your head. Change into slippers and store your shoes in the shoebox. As we were the first guests, we were free to choose where to sit. The restaurant is a renovated traditional house, maintaining its original atmosphere, which is quite nice. There are only 8-person table seats and 4-person counter seats (facing the wall). We made a reservation for 6 pm, and around 6:05 pm, the staff started explaining the dishes. It seems they offer courses starting at different times. They have beer, but we opted for fruit sake, which seemed to be their specialty. ⚫ Kyoto Matcha Beer (¥990) - A sip. It's matcha! The beer flavor comes afterward, but the taste is subtle, almost like a cocktail. ⚫ Seasonal Fruit Pulp Sour (¥990) - Today's dish ⚫ Handwoven Sushi "Yoh" (¥4620) - A plate of assorted side dishes was brought to us. The presentation is vibrant and beautiful! Surprisingly, each piece is cute but quite large, making it hard to finish them all. You can have seconds of the side dishes, but additional seaweed comes with an extra charge. I didn't realize until the end that the side dishes were meant to be sushi toppings, but they were incredibly delicious as appetizers with alcohol! From wood ear mushrooms and lion chili tempura to late mandarins, zunda-style white sesame tofu, wasabi leaves, watermelon, rolled yuba, thick fried tofu, and cherry tomatoes, the side dishes were all delicious even without being made into sushi. The rice is vinegared, with a tangy taste uncommon in the Kansai region. The chilled soba broth was delightful, and the sesame tofu dessert had a strong sesame flavor and was delicious! We weren't sure how long the course would take, and by the time we realized it had been 30 minutes, we were surprised when the last drink order came. After that, we couldn't savor the meal slowly, so it would be wise to do some research beforehand to know what to expect.

Reservation required!! Hand-rolled sushi allows you to taste the flavor of each ingredient individually, and it's delicious even when eaten separately. When eaten together, the harmony is interesting. The dessert was also enjoyable, with unique flavors I had never tried before. The restaurant has an old-fashioned house structure, creating a cozy atmosphere. ❤️

I saw the restaurant in a travel magazine and was captivated by the delicious-looking photos. I made a reservation and visited the restaurant, which had a stylish and calming atmosphere. The dishes were a delight for both the eyes and the taste buds. They featured unique combinations of ingredients that I had never tried before, but everything was delicious and beautifully presented. I enjoyed every moment from start to finish. The variety of drinks available was also interesting. I will definitely make sure to visit this restaurant again on my future travels.

I went to this place not expecting much, thinking it was just a trendy spot, but the food turned out to be delicious and unique! I thought it would be like hand-rolled sushi (seafood), but it was completely different. What came out was like a vegetable-based obanzai. I was unsure about eating it with nori and vinegared rice, but everything matched perfectly and was delicious! I was impressed by the creative ideas and the quality of how well everything was put together.

A sister store of Aum Karasuma Main Store that offers sushi rolls made with ingredients that do not contain animal protein. It may not be satisfying for men as it does not contain meat or fish. However, it is healthy and visually appealing, making it a fun dining experience.

AWOMB, a vegetable-centric hand-rolled sushi restaurant, has two locations, but I came here because I wanted to eat vegetables. The dishes are beautifully arranged in small portions. It's the beauty of Kyoto cuisine. The gently seasoned vegetables are incredibly delicious. The vinegar rice contains quinoa, so it's full of dietary fiber. The soy sauce has a gentle saltiness from koji. You can customize the flavors with various condiments. You can enjoy the sushi as it is or change it up. The roasted carrots in the center are sweet and delicious. At first, I was unsure about vegetable-only sushi, but it was refreshing and enjoyable until the end. It's fun to think about different combinations. The quiet and relaxed atmosphere allowed me to focus on the flavors. I would like to go again. Thank you for the meal.

It's a masterpiece. Various vegetables, flavors, and beautiful presentation make it a feast for the eyes. You can enjoy hand-rolling with your favorite combinations. The steamed dish is delicious and comforting. The tea is fragrant from Ippodo. The main dish of the day was sweet potatoes. The price is 3630 yen, so if I had to say, a little more seaweed would be nice. Each dish is delicious, but looking back later, I can't remember what each tasted like, so one visit is satisfying. The atmosphere of the restaurant is great, and the staff are friendly.

I went to a stylish restaurant I saw on Instagram. I was a bit hesitant, but I arrived safely. I was so happy to be able to make my own hand-rolled sushi to my liking. It not only looked good, but also tasted delicious! The steamed egg custard was also delicious. I was a bit disappointed that adding seaweed cost extra, but when it's this tasty and enjoyable, it's not a big deal. The matcha soda was also delicious with just the right amount of sweetness.

AWOMB in Kyoto is a popular restaurant that I had been curious about since seeing it on Instagram. My friend made a reservation for us, but it seemed to be fully booked all day. The atmosphere inside the restaurant is calm and lovely, with ample space between tables for a relaxed dining experience. There are so many dishes and condiments to choose from, it's hard to decide on a combination! The endless ways to enjoy the food make it fun to find your favorite pairing. The rice was also fluffy and delicious. The sweet potato in the middle was so sweet, it was impressive! We were able to enjoy both the appearance and taste of the dishes, making it more of an entertainment experience than just a meal.

I couldn't get a reservation at first, but I managed to get one. I'm so excited! It's not just regular hand-rolled sushi, it's "hand-woven sushi." It's sophisticated and adult. Kyoto is really great. The elegant hand-woven sushi puts me in such a mood.

On the last day of my trip, I decided to treat myself to a slightly luxurious meal as a souvenir. The atmosphere of the restaurant was stylish and calm. The dishes looked great for photos, but they felt like I was eating shojin ryori (Buddhist vegetarian cuisine) and left me a bit unsatisfied. Also, I was surprised when I arrived at 6:00 PM for my reservation and was told that the last order was at 6:30 PM. Maybe it's because it's a popular place?

It's been a while since I last visited. I made a reservation on a weekday, as it seems impossible to visit without one. The place was fully booked on the day of my visit as well. I had no choice but to go for the hand-rolled sushi at "Yō." I also tried the homemade ginger and lemon sour, as well as the homemade fruit vinegar sour. Hand-rolled sushi may not be as rare as it used to be, but it is still beautiful. There was no fish available this time, which I remember being different from my previous visits to other locations. The menu had some explanations, but since I already had an idea, it was easier to understand. As always, the experience was enjoyable - visually and in terms of taste. The ingredients never clash, which is impressive. Mixing and matching is not the style here, so it's better to eat each block separately. If you want to mix things up, maybe go for a bowl instead? This place may not be suitable for those who prefer strong flavors or meat dishes. If you enjoy a wilder dining experience, I would recommend a nearby barbecue restaurant. This place is delicate, deep, and offers new discoveries. The staff is polite and the atmosphere is very calming. It's perfect for those who like an organic, soft ambiance. It's mainly geared towards women. Oh, and I think they accept contactless payment.

I went to a cute, fun, and delicious lunch in Kyoto at "AWOMB Nishi Kiya-cho" near Kawaramachi Station, about an 8-minute walk away. The lunch budget ranges from 3,600 yen. It's a popular place where you can enjoy hand-rolled sushi. The hand-rolled sushi set costs 3,630 yen and includes quinoa vinegar rice with unlimited refills. They also offer a plum and myoga mocktail for 770 yen and cold green tea starting from 660 yen. They use quality ingredients from Kyoto, such as rice from Tanba, vinegar from Murayama, tea from Ippodo, miso from Ishino Miso, and yuba from Yuba Nagano. You can make your own hand-rolled sushi using roasted seaweed. The ingredients can also be enjoyed as side dishes or with sake. Kyoto cuisine is truly enjoyable. Thank you for the delicious meal!

AWOMB Nishikiyamachi in Kyoto is a trendy and hidden gem restaurant located in a renovated machiya (traditional townhouse) about a 5-minute walk from Hankyu Shijo Kawaramachi. This popular restaurant is reservation-only. They serve all-vegetable dishes without any animal protein, including their signature hand-woven sushi. Their hand-woven sushi course is priced at 3,630 yen, featuring quinoa vinegar rice with unlimited refills. They also offer a plum and myoga mocktail for 770 yen and cold green tea starting from 660 yen. The restaurant takes pride in using locally sourced ingredients such as Tanba-grown Koshihikari rice, Murayama vinegar, Ippodo roasted green tea, Ishino white miso, and Kyoto-yuba. The hand-rolled sushi is made using roasted seaweed and can be enjoyed as a hand roll or as chirashi sushi. The ingredients can also be eaten on their own as a side dish or paired with sake. Overall, it was a wonderful lunch experience. Operating hours are from 12:00 to 15:00 (last call at 14:00) and 17:00 to 20:00 (last call at 19:00). Credit cards are accepted, and the average budget is around 4,000 yen per person. The restaurant is located at 189 Ubaynagi-chou Nakagyo-ku Kyoto 604-8213, Japan.

On the first day of my summer trip to Kyoto in 2022, I had made a reservation at a restaurant that I had checked in a magazine. I arrived 3-4 minutes early for my 5:30 reservation, but the entrance was firmly closed. I took a stroll along the Takase River to pass the time, and when I returned about 10 minutes later, there were already several customers inside, enjoying themselves. Was it magic? The main menu consisted of only one type of hand-rolled sushi. Additional orders could be made for dishes or desserts. After all the seats on the floor (we were on the second floor) had been served, the staff began to explain everything. The message was simple: eat as you like. The various ingredients were beautifully arranged on the plate, making it hard to tell what they were at first glance. The main ingredient that day was baby corn. Now, onto the sushi. Fundamentally, it was sushi. Crispy seaweed and slightly sweet and moist vinegared rice. However, amidst the neatly arranged ingredients, there were hardly any that paired well with the vinegared rice and seaweed... Before even considering it as sushi, each mound of various ingredients was combined on the plate, but the combinations didn't seem to be the best match. Despite being told to not worry about the combinations and to eat as we liked during the explanation, it was understandable. When I tried the simmered shiitake mushrooms + bean sprout salad + deep-fried grapefruit (?), my taste buds reached the peak of confusion. It was certainly very enjoyable. Full of surprises. And visually appealing. However, I couldn't help but feel that a meal should not only satisfy the eyes. It's better to focus on enjoying the unconventional combinations of ingredients rather than expecting traditional sushi. If there had been cooked rice and a warm clear soup, the satisfaction would have been completely different. Thank you for the meal.

I was worried if it would be enough, but I was satisfied! I couldn't figure out the correct combination, but all of them were delicious without any discomfort ☺️ When I was taking a photo at the entrance, I was hurriedly guided in, perhaps because reservations were tight.

Insta-worthy Nishikiya-machi store is a charming spot with a Kyoto vibe from the entrance. The interior, housed in an old building, exudes a calming atmosphere. The dishes are like works of art with beautiful colors. But how's the taste? Well, the ingredients seem to be mainly vegetables and fruits, so when you try them, you might find them a bit lacking and not very filling, haha. The presentation is beautiful and perfect for capturing on Instagram, but it's more for looks rather than satisfying your hunger. The portions are too small. I asked the staff and they mentioned that the main store offers meat and fish, but this one focuses on vegetables. The vibrant colors come from the vegetable-centric menu, making it perfect for Instagram. Personally, I wouldn't come back, but I would recommend it to friends visiting Kyoto for a photoshoot.
