Oh! The restaurant is empty due to the Bon holiday and a typhoon approaching! How lucky! Normally it's crowded with eat-in customers at the counter. Even though it's lunchtime, it's empty today. I had the special sauce fried chicken thigh set, and it was delicious. The sweet special sauce is so tasty. My friend had the popular chicken cutlet set, which comes with two side dishes for just over 1000 yen. The frozen peak oolong tea is 380 yen, and the salt and pepper broccoli is 400 yen. I never get tired of the delicious food here, even though I come often. If the restaurant was closer to my home, I would even get takeout bento. The menu has expanded since it opened, and they even have yakitori now. I definitely plan to come back often, maybe even every day!

This is a small Taiwanese restaurant located at the eastern end of Shimono-uchi. Amidst the boom of xiaolongbao along with Din Tai Fung, a restaurant serving Taiwan's representative B-class gourmet dishes such as "Da Ji Pai" and "Lu Rou Fan" opened and continued to evolve as Taiwanese cuisine spread. When I visited after a long time, the set menu had turned into a bento box reminiscent of Taiwanese school lunches, allowing us to enjoy a nostalgic lunch experience. This time, we ordered the must-have "Lu Rou Bento" and "Ji Pai Bento". My companion especially loves the sauce for the chicken cutlet at this restaurant, so they made their decision quickly. While the sauce is soy sauce-based like others, it has a different taste with hints of white pepper and some spices. It's delicious even with simple salt and pepper, but the "Taiwanese flavor" is highly recommended. The side dishes are not particularly special, but they offer flavors not commonly found in Japan. I also ordered the "Deep-Fried Squid" that I had been curious about. It came out in slices, so it didn't have the impactful appearance I expected, but it was seasoned with the same sauce and was delicious. The chewy texture of the squid is quite characteristic. The sauce coats it well. Lastly, we ordered the "Pudding Milk Tea" for dessert and a drink. It's a milk tea with a pudding (with the same flavor as) floating inside. It may not be obvious from the appearance, but when you sip it, that familiar taste flows into your mouth. I have not seen this on the menu at other tapioca drink shops, so there is a high possibility that it will become popular in the future. This restaurant, recommended by many Taiwanese people in Japan, seems to still be leading the way in introducing Taiwanese B-class gourmet dishes in Minami.

The shop is small but the menu is extensive. Be prepared to wait in line as customers keep coming one after another. The shop is themed after Taiwanese elementary school students, with lunch boxes used as dishes and menus designed like a student's notebook, giving it a cute Asian touch. The fried chicken (large chicken cutlet) bento with special sauce was amazing! The combination with white rice was perfect. I think you won't get tired of eating it no matter how many times you have it. The salt and pepper flavor was also light and nice. This is definitely a shop I want to visit again!

I went to this restaurant recommended by a colleague from work. I love fried chicken, so I ordered the Taiwanese fried chicken. There were two options, so I ordered half portions of both the Taiwanese fried chicken and the grilled fried chicken. The Taiwanese fried chicken had a light crispy coating with a hint of octagonal spice flavor, and it was delicious. The grilled fried chicken had a sauce similar to BBQ or yakitori, and it was also very tasty. It's said to be Taiwanese BBQ sauce, but it definitely suits the Japanese palate. This time I only had the fried chicken, but next time I want to try the Lu Rou Fan grilled chicken while enjoying a drink.

Braised Pork Rice (and) ¥480 A bowl of rice topped with Taiwan-style seasoned diced pork. The aroma of star anise and coriander is subtle, similar to the feeling of a side dish called "Heta-don" served at a Hakata ramen shop. The price is affordable, and the quality of the meat is much higher compared to fast food chains like Yoshinoya, making it a good choice. Tapioca Milk Tea ¥400 This one is not as cheap as the price suggests, but the taste is slightly better than commercially available milk tea. It turns out the main ingredient in frozen udon is tapioca, which explains the similar taste and texture.

Looking for Lu Rou Fan... There are many Chinese-style restaurants around here, with open fronts that are common in Asia. This place allows for dining in, and it was bustling inside. I ordered a half portion of Taiwanese fried chicken (Ji Pai) and grilled chicken (Kao Ji Pai), along with Lu Rou Fan. It took a bit of time because it was crowded, but they serve it freshly made. The aroma was delightful from the moment I received the food. The Taiwanese fried chicken has a crispy starch-based coating with hints of spices like star anise. The color is light. The grilled chicken is similar to the fried chicken but topped with a sauce that tastes like sesame seeds and BBQ sauce from Taiwan called Sha Cha Jiang. Both dishes come in a paper bag like French fries, with a bamboo skewer included. It's like a handy snack. They are quite similar, so you can choose based on whether you prefer a snacky and crispy texture (fried chicken) or a rich flavor (grilled chicken). The chicken is made from chicken breast, so some pieces can be quite chewy. As for the Lu Rou Fan, it looks just the way I like it. The pork belly is cut into large chunks and cooked in a flavorful sauce with star anise. However, I felt it was a bit lacking, so I added some Chinese five spice to enhance the flavor. Overall, it was a convenient way to enjoy a taste of Taiwan through takeout. Thank you for the meal.

A friend introduced me to this authentic Taiwanese restaurant. You can enjoy casual Taiwanese fried chicken, Taiwanese beer, Lu Rou Fan, Daikon Mochi, and more in this small cozy restaurant. They also serve Tapioca Milk Tea with adjustable sweetness levels. The food is delicious and I will definitely come back again.

Taiwanese fried chicken rice bowl (800 yen), Taiwanese fried chicken piece (700 yen), Fried potatoes (400 yen) for takeout~! The grilled fried chicken has a sauce-marinated coating, while the fried chicken has a crispy coating! Both are delicious, but the grilled fried chicken has a punchy flavor. It has a hint of star anise aroma, giving it a unique twist compared to traditional Japanese-style fried chicken. You can choose between regular potatoes or sweet potatoes for the fried potatoes, and there are two seasoning options available (the photo shows salt and pepper). They start making your order once it's placed, so it may take a bit of time, but you'll receive it piping hot, which is great. The staff's service is also excellent.

I had passed by this restaurant several times before, but it was always crowded so it was hard to go in. Finally, I was able to visit this time. I ordered the Lu Rou Fan (regular) and Taiwanese fried chicken (half). The total came to 880 yen. The Lu Rou Fan was simple but delicious, with plenty of braised pork. The Taiwanese fried chicken, as rumored, had a strong salty spice flavor and was very tasty with lots of juicy meat. It was a taste I had never experienced before and surprisingly, I might get hooked on it in the future. Even though I ordered the half size, there was still a lot of food, so eating it with the Lu Rou Fan will definitely make you full. I would like to visit again next time as a snack with alcohol.

[Overall Review] Located in the middle of Matsuyamachi Station (Osaka) and Nagahoribashi Station, this shop in Shimanouchi specializes in Taiwanese fried chicken and tapioca milk. The fried chicken, known as "Ji Pai," is surprisingly delicious, with a strong salty and Chinese spice flavor. It is greasy and perfect for takeout, but it also pairs well with rice dishes when eaten in the store. Highly recommended. In the Shimanouchi area, there seems to be a large number of Chinese people, and there are many Chinese restaurants offering Beijing, Sichuan, and Taiwanese cuisine. Hojar is a Taiwanese restaurant specializing in Taiwanese fried chicken and tapioca drinks for takeout. Despite its small size, it offers limited seating for dine-in, serving rice dishes such as Braised Pork Rice. The interior has a few counter seats and tables, with Taiwanese music playing in the background. The menu includes two types of fried chicken, grilled chicken, Braised Pork Rice, and even fried potatoes. The drink menu is extensive, especially for tapioca drinks. Overall, a good spot for a quick meal. I tried the Taiwanese fried chicken and Braised Pork Rice: - Taiwanese Fried Chicken (Half) 350 yen: Juicy and flavorful with a crispy coating and a strong spice and pepper seasoning. Highly recommended for fried chicken and Chinese food lovers. - Braised Pork Rice 450 yen: Thinly sliced pork belly marinated in a sweet and savory soy sauce. Goes well with rice and has a nice texture. In conclusion, despite its fast-food nature, the Taiwanese fried chicken here is surprisingly delicious and worth trying. The juicy and crispy texture, along with the strong flavor, makes it a great choice for a quick and satisfying meal. The total bill for today was 800 yen. Thank you for the meal.

I encountered an unknown encounter at a nearby Chinese restaurant and decided to drop by. I had been wanting to try this restaurant for a while, as it seemed to offer Taiwanese-style fried chicken. By the time I arrived, the sun had set and it was getting dark. I ordered the Taiwanese fried chicken from the friendly staff and asked if I could take a photo, to which they happily posed with a large piece of chicken. The staff continued to strike poses when the fried chicken was ready. Although you can eat inside the restaurant, I planned to take it to my usual spot to eat. As for the Taiwanese fried chicken, the thinly sliced chicken breast was perfect as a snack. The aroma of the five-spice powder stimulated my appetite, and I enjoyed munching on it. I am interested in trying other items on the menu and would like to visit again in the future.

I was feeling a bit hungry, so I decided to take a leisurely walk and enjoy some snacks along the way♪( ´▽`) This was my first visit to Setto Hojar, a place I stumbled upon while strolling. I love tapioca and karaage, so I was excited to try their set. The tapioca milk tea was delicious, but I was surprised by the karaage. They fry it and then grill it with sauce! It was crispy yet had a great flavor from the sauce... It was a delightful meal. I'll definitely be back during my next walk...

On my way home from work, I felt like having some fried chicken. Usually, I would go to KFC without hesitation, but this time I was intrigued by the name "Taiwanese Fried Chicken" and decided to try it out. The shop had two Chinese staff members and there were two Chinese customers inside. It seemed like a place where locals or people from Taiwan would visit, so I had high expectations. I wasn't sure about the size of the chicken, so I asked the staff and they showed me a life-size sample next to the cash register. I ordered a half portion of both Taiwanese Fried Chicken and Taiwanese Grilled Fried Chicken. The chicken breast was thinly sliced and had a crispy coating. The base was the same for both, but the grilled chicken was cooked with sauce after being fried. The Taiwanese Fried Chicken had a unique spice aroma that increased my appetite. It was delicious! I look forward to trying out more items on the menu at this place, maybe with a Taiwanese beer in hand next time. I might even visit this place occasionally instead of KFC in the future. (laughs)

I arrived at the restaurant at 1:00 PM. There was no one inside, but I still had to wait for 15 minutes. The staff seemed to be working at a relaxed pace. The beef noodle soup was in the 450 yen range, the Taiwanese fried chicken (half portion) was 350 yen, and the Taiwanese grilled chicken (half portion) was 400 yen. The beef noodle soup could use a bit more meat or ingredients to make it better. It's tasty as it is, but it's a shame that there are so few ingredients. Are the ingredients considered meat? The fried chicken was also delicious. The Taiwanese grilled chicken was even tastier. The flavors were good, but the interior of the restaurant was tough. The tables and chairs were unnecessarily high. The tables were handmade, so they were unstable, and being handmade made them even more unstable. They were constantly wobbling. There were four chairs in a space that was just right for two people to sit comfortably. It would be very tight for four people in this space. No wonder there were no people inside the restaurant. Everyone must be getting takeout.

Near Nagahoribashi in Osaka, there are many shops selling Korean food ingredients, forming a large foreign area with a Korean atmosphere. Among them is a Taiwanese food stall called "Hao Ga," which specializes in Taiwanese-style fried chicken. You can take it to go like a typical food stall, or enjoy it inside the shop. While it may be tough in hot weather, there's something exciting about open-air dining. I was tempted by the fried chicken rice bowl, but ended up ordering the fried chicken with lo mein instead. It's not Taiwanese-style, but rather "Taiwanese," which adds a touch of authenticity. The pork belly block with skin intact is cut into large pieces, giving it a meaty and gelatinous texture that is simply irresistible. The seasoning is quite sweet, but the balance with the large pieces of meat prevents it from being overwhelming. Don't forget to try their signature Taiwanese fried chicken "Ji Pai." In Japan, fried chicken is often made with thigh meat, but in Taiwan, they use breast meat. This results in a non-dry and refreshing texture that is surprisingly crispy and light for fried food. Seeing a Tokyo flyer in Osaka is a small delight, and the presence of an electric pot is just too cute to resist. Cheers to a great meal! Taiwanese beer: available.

I didn't forget to take a photo. This is a popular Taiwanese fried chicken shop. I ordered half of Taiwanese fried chicken and half of grilled fried chicken for takeout. They seem to use chicken breast meat. It's not very juicy like thigh meat, but it's tender and fluffy. The grilled fried chicken is seasoned with soy sauce, perfect for pairing with alcohol. The Taiwanese fried chicken has a hint of spice, also goes well with alcohol. It's hard to choose a favorite, but if you're looking for a snack to go with alcohol, the grilled fried chicken is a good choice. The Taiwanese fried chicken is more suitable for a light snack. I'll come back again.
