I met up with a colleague in Shin-Osaka and stumbled upon a McDonald's near the Midosuji Line ticket gate. It felt nostalgic as the previous store had disappeared a few years ago, maybe even over 10 years. We decided to stop by for breakfast. The ordering process was done through a touch screen, which was new to me. I accidentally ordered an Egg McMuffin instead of a Sausage McMuffin. It was my first time trying an Egg McMuffin and it brought back warm memories.

Around 7:30, I stopped by McDonald's before heading to Tokyo for a business trip. It reopened on August 4, 2023, after closing on July 31, 2022! It's located right by the Midosuji exit, so it's very convenient. They have regular cash registers, touch panels, and mobile ordering available. I ordered through the mobile app while waiting at my seat. The app was acting up, causing a delay... but the manager noticed and came over, providing very pleasant assistance. I had a Sausage Egg McMuffin and an Iced Caramel Latte for 620 yen, paid with PayPay.

On August 4, 2023, a new McDonald's called "McDonald's Arde Shin-Osaka" opened as a separate store from the previous one with the same name. It was the first time I had seen a touch panel ordering system. The store was not crowded, so I could have ordered verbally, but I decided to try the touch panel ordering system since it was available. Surprisingly, the ordering process went smoothly. I noticed that I could choose "black" for my coffee, but I didn't press it, so I wondered if milk and syrup would be automatically added. Even though it was a touch panel system, I found it amusing when a message popped up asking if I wanted to add an apple pie or salad to my order. I paid quickly using a cashless method. When I asked for a plastic straw instead of a paper one, they kindly exchanged it for me. I really like the touch panel system. I hope it becomes more widespread, but I also have mixed feelings about the potential job loss due to automation. It's probably inevitable due to the declining birth rate. The coffee was also delicious.
