Title "Fukuoka by plane in autumn 2021 Part 2, Is this taste worth this price!? Envy of Hakata locals"
When you come to Fukuoka, the first stop should be Nakasu! In 2021, it was difficult to travel, but finally in autumn, I was able to go. Fukuoka is synonymous with Nakasu! After taking care of some business in Nakasu, I went here for a meal. I had been to Hakataya twice before and both times I thought, "It's not as good as the ramen in Nagahama district, but it's okay." So how was it this time? Let's go in.
I arrived at the store on Thursday at 9:20 pm, with one customer already there, and during my 20-minute stay, 6 more customers arrived later. There was only one elderly staff member. What did I order? Hakata Ramen for 290 yen (medium firmness) and a boiled egg for 60 yen. First, the boiled egg arrived separately in a dish, followed by the Hakata Ramen in just 90 seconds! Here's my rating out of 10 points:
Soup: 9 points
This is delicious!! It's light yet full of rich umami flavor, not too salty, and surprisingly delicious. I was impressed thinking, "Was it this tasty before?" Unlike the creamy taste of "white and cloudy tonkotsu" you find in the Tokyo area, this one has a clear taste similar to a light broth, but with more flavor than it appears. Be careful with the amount of ramen sauce you pour in, as it can quickly become too salty. You can add vinegar and spiciness with pickled ginger, richness with garlic, and spiciness with black pepper.
Noodles: 8 points
The noodles were thin straight noodles typical of Hakata Ramen. The portion was about 120g. I debated whether to get an extra serving, but I had already eaten udon at "Makino Udon Hakata Bus Terminal" in the evening, so I decided not to.
Toppings: 7 points
The toppings included green onions and 2 slices of chashu pork. There were pickled ginger and white sesame on the table. The green onions were scallions, and the chashu was thin, about 2mm thick, and 5cm x 7cm in size. It had a roast pork-like taste for a moment, which was quite nice.
Boiled egg for 60 yen: 8 points
The simmered egg costs 120 yen, which is expensive, but you can get a boiled egg for half the price. When you order, it is served in a separate dish with the shell on. I peeled it and put it in the ramen right away. The egg was cold, but it tasted delicious when warmed in the soup. It was a win-win situation as the soup had cooled a bit and was perfect for those with sensitive tongues. When you dip the yolk in the soup, it absorbs the flavor and tastes delicious.
Overall rating: 8 points
As a Hakata tonkotsu ramen, it had a taste that made me think it was a "clear broth style," but it also had a slight cloudiness that reminded me of Hakata Ramen. From the appearance, I thought, "Was Hakataya's ramen like this? This soup is not something you see in the Kanto region." The taste also left that impression, but Hakataya's ramen is definitely more delicious. And all this for 290 yen is too cheap! However, some of the toppings seemed a bit expensive. It seems wise to choose toppings carefully. And the next day... I also went to Hakataya Nishijin store. (2021.11.11)
