It's been a long time since I visited Tsurugyu. It's located behind Akahige Pharmacy in Sennichimae. Previously, the husband and wife used to work there, but now only the husband is there. I had the usual oolong tea and kimchi assortment. The meat was still as good as ever, with marbled cuts lined up. As a regular customer, I was able to ask for various extras. The meat was quickly seared and served on rice, creating a moment of bliss. I also ordered the Yukkejang soup, which was delicious thanks to the beef bone base. While I've been into aged Angus beef lately, I still found the regular wagyu barbecue slightly off. Maybe I'm getting older. It was delicious as always. Thank you for the meal. Tsurugyu, located behind Akahige Pharmacy in Sennichimae, is different from the upscale barbecue restaurant Tsubugyu on Matsuyamachi Street. It's a counter-only restaurant, and with 8 people, it's already full. It's run by an old man with a reputation for causing trouble for 30 years and a woman with a reputation for being moved to tears for 30 years. Just that image alone makes it seem delicious. I ordered the usual oolong tea and kimchi assortment, and quickly seared the top loin (this day was hichu) and served it on rice. The umami of the meat spreads in the mouth, and the meat juices cling to the oral mucosa with a sticky amino acid. It's irresistible. I left feeling full on delicious meat for around 3000 yen. It's an incredible cost performance. The restaurant even has illustrations by Seitaro Kuroda, making it a well-known barbecue spot.

This is a yakiniku restaurant located near Hozanji Yokocho. As of May 2016, it is run by the father alone. The meat is reasonably delicious and the prices are reasonable. However, it seems like they are not very business-oriented as they are not open for lunch and close by 11 pm.

Located just across from Yodobashi Camera and Sen'nichimae Street, this small restaurant run by a husband and wife duo can seat about 10 people at the counter. We started off with some raw liver and beer, then moved on to a selection of grilled meats like kalbi, harami, rosu, and assorted horumon. We added some more beer in between rounds and continued with dishes like beef skirt and skirt steak sandwich. Finally, we ended with cold noodles. We definitely overindulged this time, but the prices for each dish were mostly under 1000 yen. The meat is cut thick and satisfying to eat.

During my university days, my friends and I were planning to go drinking at a restaurant, but we were turned away because they were fully booked. We decided to walk down Chuo-dori towards Aiaibashi, and as we were walking, we noticed the sign for Tsurugyu on a side street. I had been craving horumon (offal) so we decided to give it a try. When we entered, we were lucky to find two seats available at the counter. The interior had only counter seats with a stove at each pair of seats where customers were grilling meat and horumon. The place smelled amazing! We ordered a large beer and a variety of dishes including kimchi assortment, yukhoe (Korean beef tartare), salted tongue, horumon assortment (4 types), middle rib kalbi, upper harami (skirt steak), and pork belly. The kimchi was a mix of radish, cucumber, and Chinese cabbage with a perfect balance of spiciness and sweetness. The salted tongue was thickly sliced with a great texture. The horumon assortment included tongue, senmai (tripe), heart, and shimacho (intestine) - each with its own unique texture and delicious flavor. The dipping sauce paired perfectly with the meats. The middle rib kalbi, upper harami, and pork belly were all delicious as well. Everything went so well with rice and beer. Overall, the food was top-notch and we enjoyed every dish. We ended our meal with kuppā (Korean risotto). The restaurant has a counter seating arrangement, so it's a great place to go with male friends or colleagues. I would love to visit again.
