THE ONO MARKET @ Tenjin, Fukuoka City ~ Amazing Seafood Bowl Today, I visited "THE ONO MARKET" owned by member Ono-san. Since the new Brassam Hotel opened in Kyoto, I don't think any of the main members who know me are here. I will check out how they are operating in such a situation. Today, there are a lot of fish dishes. First, I check the menu. It's quite crowded today, probably because I arrived around 12:30. I order the Amazing Seafood Bowl for 1,480 yen. It has Yufuin salmon, young yellowtail, seared edamame, whitebait, sea urchin, amberjack, diced white fish?, isaki, nodoguro, hirasu, horse mackerel, sesame mackerel. It would be nice if they had QR codes on the table for those interested to read more about the fish species. I also check out the Ono Chicken and Ono Sausage set. The Ono Chicken uses breast meat well, and the sausage is of the type not stuffed in a casing. By the time I finish, the place is almost full. The Amazing Lunch is becoming popular. The young staff were very efficient. Payment is cashless. They also offer a breakfast buffet. THE ONO MARKET 3-5-18 Tenjin, Chuo-ku, Fukuoka City, 810-0001 Phone: 092-731-1220

Today, I waited for the rain to ease up before heading to a popular local restaurant. Sometimes I see tourists lining up, but today it was empty, maybe because of the rain or the time (around 1:30 pm). I had eaten a lot yesterday and gained a little weight, so I wanted to go light, but I couldn't resist. I managed to avoid fried food and ended up ordering the "Mapo Tofu Set" for 900 yen. When I placed my order, they said, "It comes with free drinks, so please help yourself," which surprised me a bit for a 900 yen lunch. There weren't many options, but there were orange juice, apple vinegar juice, tea, and tea bags. As expected from the Ono Group, generous! Before the set meal arrived, they brought me a small dish of "Squid Mentaiko." Mentaiko with Mapo Tofu? A mysterious service, but I was surprised by everything. And when the set meal arrived, it was a generous portion of Mapo Tofu, a hearty salad, along with Squid Shumai, steamed chicken with wine vinegar flavor, and more. Just looking at it made me full. It was an onslaught of dishes, and I was almost down (before eating). First, I tried the Squid Mentaiko on rice before eating the Mapo Tofu. It was delicious! It's cheating to serve Mentaiko to a customer who ordered Mapo Tofu. I couldn't focus on the Mapo Tofu (laughs). I ended up eating half of the rice with just the Squid Mentaiko. Oh, I should eat the salad first, I thought, so I moved on to the generous salad. It had a Caesar-style dressing. And then, I had to eat the soup first. Finally, I reached the Mapo Tofu after waiting for quite some time. It was piping hot and quite spicy! I thought I needed more rice, and sure enough, there was unlimited Hagiwara rice in the back of the drink bar. I was trying to save because I ate too much yesterday, but I ended up having a second bowl of rice for the mostly untouched Mapo Tofu. I scooped up the piping hot Mapo Tofu onto the white rice and ate until I was stuffed again today. (-。-; I did it again. I really can't skip dinner tonight, or I'll be scared of tomorrow's weight.

Overall rating (5-point scale): 3.4 Lunchtime (set meal) + Alcohol taste/quality: 4 The mapo tofu has just the right amount of numbing sensation from the Sichuan peppercorns. I tried the Sapporo Beer "SORACHI 1984," which is not widely available. Service: 3 The tables and chairs are a bit cramped, making it difficult to pass through to the cashier. Hygiene/cleanliness: 3 Self-service water with lemon is good, but they didn't notice when they ran out of ice for a long time. Atmosphere: 3 Cost performance: 4 The "daily sashimi set meal" for 1,780 yen and the "seafood bowl" for 1,480 yen are reasonably priced, but the "mapo tofu and shumai set meal" I had this time was a good deal at 800 yen, including mapo tofu, 2 shumai, salad, egg and cabbage soup, and white rice (you can have seconds cooked in a pot).

This place was also very popular! I arrived 5 minutes before the 11:00 opening and there were many young couples coming one after another. The fish served in Tenjin was okay. I was able to catch up with an old friend for quite a while. It seemed like we could have gotten seconds, but we were too full to do so!

(2023.06.20) The "ONO Group" is not just a chain of restaurants focusing on Japanese, French, Western, Chinese, and ramen cuisine, but each of their establishments has its own unique characteristics. They not only offer delicious food but also provide excellent customer service, with favorites like "Ono no Hanare," "Bistro O," and the now-closed "Hakata Ono" under their belt. One such establishment is "THE ONO MARKET." As the name suggests, upon entering the shop, you'll find fresh fish from Nagahama Fish Market and carefully selected delicious Fukuoka products for sale. Beyond that, there are around 30 seats where you can dine in, set in a warm and cozy atmosphere with wooden accents. While the main focus is on fresh seafood, you can also find Hawaiian dishes to evoke a summer feel, as well as fusion dishes like "China & Japan" and "Bistro & Japan" combining Western or Chinese cuisine with sashimi and sushi. The "Daily Sashimi Set Meal" with a variety of sashimi and simmered fish is a popular choice, but the "Ultimate Seafood Don" we tried was truly extravagant. Featuring tuna, sea bream, salmon, amberjack, sea urchin, crab meat, and more, the bowl was packed with fresh and high-quality seafood, almost hiding the rice underneath. The presentation was more about the generous portions than elegance, fitting the name "market meal." The fish is prepared fresh upon ordering, ensuring a firm and satisfying texture.

I visited this place after going to the sauna. They offer a variety of cuisines from sushi to Italian to Chinese, making it hard to decide what to eat! I ended up ordering Italian, sushi, and even kimchi, and everything was delicious. The sushi was fresh and the rice was nice and big, very tasty. The atmosphere is more suited for a quick lunch rather than a leisurely dinner, but they do have a good selection of snacks for drinking. The yuzu sour was really delicious. I will definitely go back.

I do not recommend this restaurant to tourists or locals! It's not worth the price. There are definitely better options nearby that even the locals would prefer. I went for lunch on a weekday. I won't be coming back. I was looking forward to the sashimi-packed set meal, but they had a limited special for April and I decided to try that. It included tempura prawns, fried mackerel, sake-steamed clams, Chinese-style clams with eggs, and a 5-piece sashimi platter. I thought maybe the other set meal with the 5 kinds of sashimi would have been a better choice! First of all, the tempura prawns were disappointing. Were they sweet shrimp? They were so small. But the taste was actually good. I could live with the tempura prawns and miso soup. However, for the price of around ¥1700, the tempura prawns were not up to par with a local set meal. The prawns were also tiny. I couldn't believe this was from a group that prides itself on fish dishes. I thought even foreign frozen shrimp tempura from a family restaurant would have been better. The fried mackerel was dry. The sashimi platter included salmon that had a muddy smell. It was traumatic. Each piece was cut into two, so after noticing something was off with the first piece, I tried to mask the taste with lots of wasabi for the second piece. It was tough. Along with this fish was sake-steamed clams, two of them, Chinese-style clams with eggs and mixed vegetables. The eggs were slightly sweet and sour, lacking in flavor. The potato salad smelled like it was starting to go bad. When I put it in my mouth, it had a foul smell. It was a hot day, so I understand it's hard to maintain freshness. I wouldn't recommend this place at all. It's not even worth a 1.0 rating. If you are someone who cherishes their meals, you should definitely stay away. Thank you for the meal, but I won't be returning. No, thank you.

In Hakata, there seems to be a lively ONO group. ONO-san is an entrepreneur from Nara Prefecture who trained in Japanese cuisine, came to Hakata, and independently expanded his business. I had made a reservation at a Japanese restaurant, and my daughter and I arrived at the opening time. Since it was a weekday, we were the only ones there at the opening time. Inside the restaurant, there was a fish market, bakery, and Italian cuisine where you could order your favorite items. The sashimi set meal had 11 types of incredibly fresh fish that could be used for sushi, along with grilled fish collar and simmered fish. The sesame mackerel and all this for ¥1,700 was a great deal. The rice was cooked in a feather pot and was all-you-can-eat. While waiting for the sashimi set meal, I had fish carpaccio and Japanese sake from the Italian section. The sake was truly amazing, I tried the Doburoku sake from Fukuoka called "Niwano Uguisu" which had the aroma of wine, a light acidity, and a rich flavor. The service from the woman who explained everything was also very pleasant. I would definitely like to visit this restaurant again.

Ono Group, which operates many popular shops in Fukuoka such as Ono's remote location 10 minutes walk from Tenjin Station, has a food park called MARKET where you can enjoy various types of food including Japanese, Chinese, and sushi. The place also sells alcohol like wine, and for a fee of around 500 yen, you can enjoy bottles sold in the store. The lunch special, which includes a daily sashimi set for 1780 yen from 11:00 to 14:30, is a great deal with a large plate of sashimi that seems like it could serve 2-3 people. The set also comes with rice, miso soup, and pickles, and you can have unlimited refills of rice. It's a satisfying meal for both men and women, and you can enjoy Hakata specialties as well. The portion is so generous that even two girls can share the sashimi set and order additional items like fried potatoes, Ono's yakitori rolls, and shumai. You can also order beer and sparkling wine from the menu. We had a great time drinking and enjoying the delicious food, and the total bill was less than 6000 yen, making it a great value for money. We enjoyed the experience so much that we ended up visiting the place three more times. Thank you for the wonderful meal!

I went to the Kokura Racecourse in the morning and returned to Fukuoka in the evening. I had European curry for lunch yesterday, eel for dinner, and sushi for breakfast today. I decided to try something healthier and went to this place. It was 6:00 pm and there was only one other customer. The menu had a lot of options, but I ordered the mackerel in sweet soy sauce. It took about 15 minutes for it to be served. The dishes were okay, nothing special. What bothered me was the service and the attitude of the staff when clearing the table. The owner of the restaurant is famous in Fukuoka, so I expected the staff to be better trained. However, their attitude seemed lackluster - just a simple greeting, a distracted demeanor while serving, and a rush to clear the table as soon as we finished eating, even though the place was not busy at all. These three things alone made me lose interest. I don't think I'll be going back again.

I had the daily sashimi lunch set at THE ONO MARKET. The unlimited rice was a nice touch to go with the generous amount of sashimi. It came with grilled collar, simmered fish, and in the middle was mackerel with sesame dressing. The fresh sashimi was delicious! I was impressed by the variety of fish.

Ono Group operates a food select shop & restaurant where you can enjoy various delicious foods from Kyushu in one place - the Kyushu Grown-up Lunch (1,880 yen). It includes 12 items, making it the perfect grown-up version of a children's lunch! It consists of a sashimi platter, Oita chicken tempura, Miyazaki chicken nanban, Saga squid dumplings, Kumamoto Taiping Yan, Nagasaki fried horse mackerel, Kagoshima satsuma-age, Hakata sesame mackerel, Hakata squid simmered dish, Hakata mentaiko & takana, Fukuoka Itoshima rice cooked in a pot, and Ono's famous pudding. The salad also contains nuts and dried fruits, which seem beneficial for beauty and add a sweet touch making it easy to eat. The sashimi portion is similar to a regular sashimi set and all of them are fresh. However, honestly, the fried items tasted like frozen food and were not delicious. The most delicious item was the pudding! When I arrived around 11:30, it was not crowded, but it started to get busier, and by 12:30 there was a line outside, so I recommend going early. The fish was delicious, so next time I want to try the Chinese menu! They also offer set meals and affordable all-you-can-drink options at night, so it might be good for evening visits too. I also share Fukuoka gourmet content on Instagram at momono._.o! If you love food, please follow me there ♫ https://www.instagram.com/momono._.o/

Once you find this place, you'll definitely have to wait in a long line. I went on a holiday. I arrived 5 minutes after the opening at 11:00 and was able to enter without waiting. The sashimi set meal starts at 11:30, so I waited at the restaurant. Thank you. It costs around 1700 yen for this volume of food, and they use a lot of fish from Kyushu. The salmon from Yufuin is my favorite! There were nearly 15 different types of fish, including sea bream, golden eye snapper, conger eel, and tuna. The staff told me, but I couldn't remember them all. They really satisfied my craving for fish. The simmered dishes and grilled fish were too delicious. And unbelievably, the rice is all-you-can-eat. I ended up eating two bowls of rice cooked in a pot, haha. I definitely want to come back, but I wonder if there will be a long line next time.

All options are surprisingly reasonable. A variety of seafood is served generously. Arriving before opening, there were already 3 groups waiting in line. Upon entering, more customers continued to arrive one after another. The interior has the atmosphere of a diner. With a steady stream of customers, it's best to order quickly! Today, I had the "Ultimate Seafood Bowl" for 1480 yen (with rice or vinegar rice), which takes about 20 minutes to prepare as it is freshly cut. Although I was also intrigued by the daily sashimi set meal, I was satisfied with the bowl. Recommended for those who want to enjoy seafood at a reasonable price. Thank you for the meal.

The other day, I found a shop called THE ONO MARKET on Instagram! I used to pass by this shop thinking it was a flower shop (//∇//). But on Instagram, I saw a delicious seafood bowl! It even said that it was featured on TV! I felt like having a seafood bowl, so I decided to go check it out right away! There were fish being sold at the entrance of the shop, completely different from what I had imagined from the outside (I thought it was a flower shop). Inside the shop, they also sold snacks! I sat at the counter and ordered the seafood bowl right away! It was a seafood bowl that was carefully made with fish from Amakusa, yellowtail from Iki, and mackerel from Suzu. It's recommended for those who want to eat seafood bowls in Tenjin (^^).

Nighttime cost performance was the best, so I chose to have lunch here. I had the 1480 yen seafood bowl. I have no further comments. Just take a look at the photo and see that this costs 1480 yen. You can also choose the type of vinegar rice, making it the best choice. From now on, I will bring business travelers here.

Daily sashimi set menu for 1780 yen. It used to be 1580 yen until recently, but now it has increased to this price. However, when you see the amount of sashimi, it's just a slight difference in price. A slight difference, indeed. Oh, amazing. Amazing, amazing. It's incredibly amazing. The quantity is impressive, but the quality of the sashimi is also amazing. As someone from Fukuoka, I have always had a question. When people from Tokyo visit Fukuoka, they usually go for motsunabe, ramen, or gyoza. But when you come to Fukuoka, I want you to try the fish first. Fukuoka's fish is the best in Japan, which may be hard to believe for some. If you don't believe it, I recommend going to this restaurant and ordering this sashimi set menu. Oh, and the pudding I ordered as an extra was rich and delicious.

This restaurant is known for its fresh fish, but everything else was mediocre. The prefix course for 1,480 yen offers options like sweet and sour pork and curry hot pot, but the portions are too large and the flavors are nothing special. It might have been better to just stick with the fish bowl here. Waiting 30 minutes for the order was also a negative point.

I love the ONO Group, so I have been to other branches like Ono no Hanare, but ONOMARKET was a first for me! I went for lunch on a weekday and was seated right away. I ordered the seafood bowl for 1,380 yen, with the option of vinegar rice or white rice. I chose vinegar rice. The bowl was packed with a generous amount of fresh fish, all thickly sliced and delicious! There was no fishy smell at all. They also offer extra rice, so it seems like a good option for men. I am curious about other menu items, so I definitely want to go back!
