After exploring the food stalls in Nakasu, we searched for a seafood restaurant and ended up at Mizune, a Hakata-style restaurant on Kawabata Street. Senmon-pay was fully booked, so we were seated in a cozy second-floor hori-kotatsu seating area. We ordered a few beers, along with the must-have sesame mackerel and live squid sashimi. We also enjoyed some sweet potato shochu and local sake. The remaining squid was fried into tempura, which was absolutely delicious. Double the satisfaction!

At the request of my boss, we went to eat fresh squid sashimi. The restaurant we had visited before was unfortunately full, so we looked around and found Mizune in the Kawabata shopping street. The entrance and interior had a nice atmosphere, making it suitable for entertaining (even though it was within the company). The menu included dishes like motsunabe (offal hot pot) and sesame mackerel, as well as various regional specialties from not only Fukuoka but all over Kyushu. The sesame mackerel was a shiny, fresh mackerel typical of Fukuoka, with the sesame sauce served separately so you can adjust the amount to your liking. The fish had a good amount of fat, and the combination of the sweetness of Kyushu soy sauce and the sweetness of the mackerel created a unique flavor. Even my boss, who claims to be a seafood connoisseur, kept eating with a smile, and the crispy tempura was also well received. The picky elderly customers were all smiles throughout the meal, which shows how good the food was. It was quite impressive. Despite the current trend of rising prices, the bill was not as high as expected, which was a relief. The pork shabu-shabu also looked promising. I would like to make a reservation again when I have someone to go with.

The extremely popular restaurant was fully booked. It is a place known for its delicious seafood dishes. I recommend trying the unique oden and the kinko pork shabu-shabu. There were various things in the fish tank. It's a popular spot among the locals in Nakasu, so reservations are recommended. I also featured this restaurant on YouTube.

This time, I visited Hakata Ryotei Mizune Kawabata-ten located at 6-17 Kamikawabata-cho, Hakata-ku, Fukuoka City. I used it for lunch. It is located in the arcade of Kawabata Shotengai, and the entrance has a luxurious Japanese-style image, which raises expectations. As soon as I entered, I saw that the first floor has an L-shaped counter and the second floor seems to have private rooms. The lunch menu offers 5 options: Matsukado for 1650 yen, Goto mackerel tea-pickled rice bowl for 1320 yen, seafood bowl for 1320 yen, sashimi set meal for 1650 yen, and Shinshu soba and tempura set meal for 1650 yen. I chose Matsukado as it seemed like a variety of dishes to enjoy. I wanted to have beer with it, but unfortunately, alcohol is not served here. So, I switched my focus to enjoying the meal. Matsukado is served in a white wooden tray divided into nine compartments, with a variety of colorful dishes, including squid and okra salad, three types of sashimi (amberjack, sea bream, tuna), eggplant in broth, potato salad, corn, mentaiko, egg, edamame, tender octopus simmered, sweet potato tempura, and grilled salmon. Each dish was beautifully presented and delicious. The meal also came with miso soup, rice, and dessert. Japanese cuisine always warms the heart. The dinner menu also offers a wide variety of dishes, including live squid and local specialties, which would surely be appreciated by visitors from outside the prefecture. I enjoyed the meal very much. Thank you for the feast.

Usually, I tend to avoid Matsukado, but for lunch today it was either Matsukado or seafood bowl, and I was in the mood for a set meal so I chose Matsukado. This restaurant was recommended by a business partner's president and it was my first visit. When Matsukado was served, it was a beautifully crafted bento box with each dish carefully prepared. The turnip steamed dish was delicious with a chewy texture, possibly due to the use of taro in it (not confirmed though). The pickles and side dishes were all well-prepared and of high quality. The meal ended with tea and coffee jelly mousse. It was a truly enjoyable Matsukado experience.

With two colleagues. I joined halfway through, so there are no photos of the first dishes. We had raw spear squid (small x2). The leftover heads and tentacles were made into tempura. The staff were very friendly and attentive.

Two people spent 16,000 yen. The alcohol was a bit pricey, but we each had about two servings. The squid was delicious with a crunchy texture. The tempura was recommended with vinegar and soy sauce, and it was tasty and refreshing.

Kawabata "Suioto" - Elegant Seafood Bowl I've been to many shops in the Kawabata shopping street, but I haven't introduced "Suioto" yet. It's a Japanese restaurant that seems quite expensive at night. It gives off the vibe of having a meal with the older ladies of Nakasu before work. For lunch, they offer a seafood bowl for 1296 yen, with blue fish, sweet shrimp, and salmon roe. The sesame sauce is delicious. This kind of place also serves tasty chawanmushi. For dessert, they have white peach mousse. It's a nice place to relax. Next to me, there's a middle-aged man who looks like a company president drinking beer from noon. It's nice here. In the evening in Hakata in March 2018, we decided to start our party near Nakasu area. We made a reservation in advance and arrived at the restaurant around 6 pm. Instead of ordering a set course, we decided to choose our favorite dishes to eat. We couldn't miss the fresh squid, so we ordered it as sashimi. We also wanted to try sesame mackerel, simmered fish, simmered red snapper, and grilled turban shell. We ordered draft beer to start our meal. The squid sashimi was delicious with a perfect texture, and the butter grilled squid was a great choice. The mackerel with sesame sauce was also tasty. The simmered red snapper was sweet and savory, and it paired well with the sake we switched to. Overall, it was a wonderful dining experience with delicious food and drinks.

A traditional Japanese restaurant located in a corner of the Kawabata Shotengai in Hakata. Upon entering, there is a counter seating area, and the second floor has private rooms and tatami seating. The interior is calm and away from the hustle and bustle of Nakasu. As I was dining alone, I was seated at the counter. Lunch is served until 3 pm (last order at 2:30 pm). I visited around 2 pm as usual, and there were already elderly couples dining, creating a leisurely atmosphere. I ordered the Matsukado (monthly) set which included seasonal appetizers. There were four dishes in a wooden box, all looking delicious and making it hard to decide where to start. There was white fish tempura with sauce, winter melon and meatballs, watercress and squid, black beans, sweet potatoes in lemon sauce, shrimp, edamame, and smoked fish. It also came with rice and seaweed soup. Midway through, freshly fried tempura was served - shrimp, pumpkin, sweet potato, and shishito peppers. The sashimi included sea bream and mackerel, with the sea bream having large pieces of meat. There was also shredded Japanese pepper as a rice accompaniment, making you want to ask for seconds. For dessert, there was a smooth cream cheese. The restaurant has a fish tank, ensuring fresh fish for the dishes. Being a traditional Japanese restaurant, every dish was delicious. I am looking forward to trying their dinner menu as well.

This is a shop located in Kawabata Shopping Street. There was a fish tank at the entrance, giving it a somewhat upscale feel, so we hesitated before visiting. There were three of us, but only the counter on the first floor was available, so we were seated at the counter. We had sashimi for a toast, salad, vinegar tripe, shirako-filled shumai, garlic tempura, motsunabe, and toriten, among other dishes. My favorite was the garlic tempura - it was fluffy and melted in the mouth, with hardly any smell, so I didn't have to worry about it the next day. One of my friends, who was drinking something other than sake, said, "Some places have drinks that taste like juice and aren't good, but this place is good." The food is delicious and the restaurant has a clean feel. We didn't have any fish dishes this time, so I think I'll try some next time! Thank you for the meal.

The first time I had live squid sashimi in Yobuko was exquisite. The other dishes were also delicious, and the atmosphere at the counter seat was great, with the chef being friendly and talkative. At this restaurant, I enjoyed local sake while being guided by the chef, and it was very delicious. The glasses were not the usual ones, but they were enjoyable to look at as well. When it comes to Kyushu, the image of shochu, especially from Kagoshima, is strong, but I learned that sake is also delicious. I will definitely visit this restaurant again when I revisit Hakata.
