Lunch, do you think it's worth paying for the appetizer to eat it? It feels kind of wasteful, is it because of poor people?
In April of this year, a new specialty chicken grill restaurant opened in Asakura City, Fukuoka Prefecture, Akizuki, known as the "Little Kyoto of Fukuoka." In the summer, many customers come from various places seeking coolness, with abundant water from the mountains and underground water flowing. You can also see the ruins of the Akizuki clan's castle and enjoy a leisurely sightseeing.
About two months ago, it was featured on a local TV station, so I decided to go eat the chicken grill right away.
The distance from my home is about 20 kilometers one way, so it feels very close. I arrived at 11:30 to match the weekday opening time.
The renovated interior of the building, with white walls, is a calm and relaxing dining area with all seats raised slightly.
There is only one male owner in his early 40s. I was torn between choosing the local brand Furukoro chicken or the Akizuki chicken, but I decided that the chewy texture was better.
- Akizuki chicken (grilled with sauce) = 1200 yen
- Grilled rice balls (2 pieces) = 280 yen
- Appetizer (chicken soup, vegetable salad) = 300 yen
This is the combination I ordered.
A charcoal fire is prepared on the table, and all that's left is to wait for the food to be served.
When I saw the chicken meat on the plate, I thought, "1200 yen for this?!" Well, it's a bit large, but there are only four pieces. The sauce is a bit too much, but there seems to be a bit too little...
The chicken soup has a strong chicken flavor, and I personally think it would be the best if I added one more sprinkle of salt and pepper. This is a matter of personal preference.
The vegetable salad uses local vegetables such as cabbage, bell peppers, cucumbers, and coriander, which are fresh. Except for the cabbage, everything is fresh.
The grilled rice balls are a style where you grill them yourself with a little soy sauce drizzled on top. When it's slightly charred, you spread chicken miso on it and eat it. It tastes pretty good.
Now, the most important part, the grilled Akizuki chicken is ready. When I took a bite of one piece, it was quite large. When I cut it in half with scissors, it became smaller in size. Before eating, I dipped it in the sauce three times and grilled it, so the taste was good. The chewy texture unique to Akizuki chicken is made with fresh chicken. The charred surface is also good, they are good at grilling. Poor people have a habit of flipping meat multiple times.
If you dip it in a little chicken miso before eating, the taste changes to something else. They use good chicken meat, but it's not enough to fill your stomach. You can choose from the a la carte menu and add more, but poor people don't have that kind of luxury. I don't have money. I'll leave the restaurant with my stomach 60% full, but I heard from an acquaintance that it gets very crowded on Saturdays and Sundays. I think it's better to visit tourist spots on weekdays.
