I stayed at this hotel in Hakata. It is a 5-minute walk from Gion Station, take exit 5, turn left at the first traffic light, then turn left at the "Hakata Police Station Entrance" signal. It is located on the left immediately after turning left. It takes about 5 minutes on foot from the station. Canal City is diagonally across the street, and it is about a 7-minute walk from Hakata Station. I thought I had booked with breakfast included, but it turned out to be without breakfast, so I had to pay with cash (or card) for one day. The price with cash was ¥1890 per person. Breakfast is served from 6:30 to 10:00 (last order at 9:30). When I arrived at the opening time, there were already about 10 people in line. The restaurant Uo-ten is located here, so I had high hopes for the food. The restaurant is long and narrow, with dishes placed in two spots in the back and on the counter in the front. In one spot in the back, there were bread (including mentaiko French toast), salad, sausages, bacon, etc. There was also pickled daikon radish in the salad corner. Next to that table, there were tempura of the day (burdock root on this day), fish surimi, fried chicken, simmered dishes, Hakata-style eggplant with sauce, pickled vegetables, homemade tofu, deep-fried mackerel with sauce, udon, curry, etc. Drinks like Yame tea were also nearby. At the counter near the entrance, there were grilled mackerel, stir-fried pork and Chinese chives, sashimi, mentaiko, pickles, onsen egg, natto, seaweed, miso soup, and rice. The rice was Genki-tsukushi from Fukuoka Prefecture. I wanted to make a seafood bowl, but since the rice was at the end of the line, I had to make it on the table. For sashimi, there were only yellowtail available when I went, which was disappointing. The kitchen was behind the counter, so I wished they would add more dishes continuously. I tried to pick dishes made with Fukuoka ingredients as much as possible. I thought the seasoning in the western part of Japan tended to be sweet, but dishes like simmered daikon radish had a nice balance of sweetness. The fried chicken was a specialty of the restaurant and was juicy and delicious. The mentaiko French toast was okay. The bread was a bit light. The sausages and bacon were not that great, so I recommend choosing homemade dishes whenever possible. The room was a Moderated Twin type, which was decent. Two free cans of water per person per day. There is a large public bath on the top floor on the 13th floor, with a steam sauna and an outdoor bath. Due to COVID-19, only up to 2 people were allowed in the sauna at a time. The outdoor bath was not visible from the outside and had a garden-like view. The overall service of the hotel was quite good. The breakfast buffet for ¥1890 with this content was very good in my opinion. However, the only issue was the crowdedness. Around 7:30 when we left, it had just rotated and was a bit less crowded, but around 8:30, there was quite a long line. During travels, there is also a time limit to consider, so it might be better to visit with some extra time to spare.
