Ikebukuro Seibu store ⇒ "http://kouji328.blog59.fc2.com/blog-entry-4613.html" A package arrived for my wife from a mommy friend when we lived in Nerima. Inside was a surprise bag with some of her favorite things. She opened it eagerly, and my wife let out a loud scream. Curious, I wondered what it was, and she thrust a white paper bag in front of my nose saying, "It's Satsuma potato!" She was thrilled and excited. Apparently, she had asked in advance if they could include it, and she was overjoyed when she received it. She said that "Matsukura Potato" can be found in a few places other than Ikebukuro, but "Satsuma de Gowasu" is only sold in Ikebukuro. I'm not sure about the truth, but when I searched online, the only reference I found was from over a decade ago at the Donq Akita Seibu store. It seems that it is only sold in Ikebukuro West. By the way, "Matsukura Potato" is a brand under the Bakery DONQ group, similar to "Joan." Established in 1949, it was created by Matsukura Inoue, the chief pastry chef at the Imperial Hotel. The philosophy of Matsukura Inoue, who was the head pastry chef at the Imperial Hotel, was to select high-quality ingredients and create delicious sweets that bring out the characteristics of the ingredients. The advice of the renowned pastry chef to bake it to a crispy golden brown has been followed for over half a century. Now, onto the "Satsuma de Gowasu." Checking past blog posts, it has been 12 years since I last had it! In 2008, it was sold at 100g for 130 yen, but according to online reviews, it is now 170 yen per 100g as of 2021. When you actually hold it, you feel like it's worth more than 1,000 yen, but with 5-6 pieces per 100g, the amount received this time is equivalent to about 500 yen for 250g. The gratitude is definitely worth more than 2,000 yen. It was sent from Tokyo, so it couldn't be helped, but it was a bit moist, so I had to put it in the oven. It got too hot and burnt, but it was still soft when I held it. The crispy texture was quite weak, but that was secondary once I tasted it. Was it always this sweet with so much honey? (Of course, not overly sweet) Despite being moist, you can still feel the Danish pastry texture, with a rich Satsuma sweet potato flavor! The black sesame accent also adds to the flavor, making you smile unintentionally. Even without heating it in the oven, it is delicious! The satisfaction at this price! It's completely incomprehensible why they don't sell it outside of Ikebukuro West. "Satsuma de Gowasu," still the best cost performance! For those who haven't tried it yet, be sure to do so! 82 points.
