An esteemed confectionery shop that was presented to and favored by Toyotomi Hideyoshi, even receiving a product name from him. This shop is located within a building halfway up the grounds of Kitano Tenmangu Shrine, near the main store. I visited on a weekday, the 25th, to see the Tenjin festival. It was just before 10 o'clock, and the shop was about 80% full. The interior was dimly lit, with no air conditioning, only a few large fans and several electric fans. It wasn't scorching hot, but it wasn't extremely cool either. If you're looking to cool off during the height of summer, it might be better to visit a nearby shop. [Food Ordered] Nagagoro Mochi and Green Tea Set ¥500 - Two small mochi sweets that are just right for a quick bite. They have a refined sweetness and are delicious. It seems like the prices have gone up quite a bit, but I still think it's reasonably priced. It's easy to see why this place has been beloved for so many years. Thank you for the meal!

I went to Kitano Tenmangu Shrine on the 25th. "Tenjin-san" is the place. Chogoro-mochi is a refined rice cake with sweet bean paste wrapped in a thin skin. From 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. today, you can enjoy it with tea inside the store. It was delicious. The expiration date is 2 days from the manufacturing date.

I visited during the Goshugi-sai festival at Kitano Tenmangu Shrine. Every year, I visit during the "Mitarashi Festival" at Shimogamo Shrine, but this year I couldn't go due to a cold, so I visited the Goshugi-sai festival at Kitano Tenmangu Shrine for the first time! When visiting shrines and temples, we receive a kamon mochi. On this day, the eat-in area in the precinct was closed, so I bought souvenirs. This establishment is said to have a long history, having been used at the Kitano Daichakai of Toyotomi Hideyoshi at the 400-year-old Kitano Tenmangu Shrine. The inside of the hananui mochi is filled with smooth sweet bean paste. I will visit again when I go to Kitano Tenmangu Shrine. Thank you for the meal.

【Kyoto Food Walk】A renowned delicacy that has been passed down for over 400 years since the year 1587, this elegant mochi confection features sweet bean paste wrapped in a thin mochi skin. It is said to have been used during the Kitano Daisai tea ceremony opened by Toyotomi Hideyoshi. Purchased at the teahouse in the right side of the Kitano Tenmangu Shrine grounds facing the main hall. The fluffy and soft mochi envelops a subtly sweet and light bean paste, creating a gentle and sophisticated taste. Despite being mochi, it is so light that one piece is not enough. A promising start to the day from the morning♪ Thank you for the delicious treat. (It was so delicious that I bought more at Kyoto Station on the way back home haha Brought them back home too haha)

Located within the grounds of Kitano Tenmangu Shrine, Chagoten Nagaro Mochi Honpo is a tea shop. I purchased their famous Nagaro mochi, a set of 2 for ¥400 (tax included). The soft mochi with generous red bean paste filling is delicious. It seems they are only open on the 25th of each month and during special events at Kitano Tenmangu Shrine.

Established during the Tencho era, I ordered matcha along with my meal. It was a comforting taste with matcha and Nagatoro mochi after visiting Kitano Tenmangu Shrine. It is located to the right of the shrine. Purchase a meal ticket at the entrance before being guided to your seat.

It's a snack. This is a souvenir from Tenjin-san in Kitano, the 400-year-old Chogoro Mochi. It was named by Hideyoshi, and it is said that even the Imperial Family and feudal lords enjoyed it. The soft, fluffy Hanejuu wrapped in sweet bean paste has a cute appearance. As someone with a simple palate, I have to sit properly to eat it. The sweetness is gentle, and when the Hanejuu is soft and mixed with the bean paste, it tastes delicious. I received a good snack. Thank you for the feast.

My son and I visited for our exam success prayer. On our way back, we had some rice cakes. My son had roasted green tea, and I had thin tea (matcha) set. The sweet red bean paste was rich and delicious♪ Truly the taste of tradition. When I had my son try the matcha, he made a face and said it was bitter~. He successfully climbed one step closer to adulthood. Thank you for the meal♫

After strolling around Kitano Tenmangu Shrine, I came across this traditional Japanese sweets shop. Since everyone was lining up to buy, I decided to join the queue as well. To taste the flavors, I purchased a pack of two. When I tried them, I was pleasantly surprised. The mochi was incredibly soft and chewy, with a not-too-sweet red bean paste filling inside. It was delicious. It's a shame that they don't last long.

After finishing my meal at Murasaki, I felt satisfied and took a stroll around the Kitano Tenmangu Shrine area. It was bustling with many students. When I go hiking or visit shrines and temples, I always buy and stick on traffic safety stickers wherever they are available. However, the cheap ones tend to fade quickly and peel off, but the stickers from the Fujisan Summit Asama Shrine and Kitano Tenmangu Shrine are well-made and I believe they will protect my car for a long time. While exploring the area, I came across a mochi shop. I bought a pack of two mochi because the box mentioned, "Kawachiya Chogoro presented mochi to Toyotomi Hideyoshi and he liked it so much that it was named 'Chogoro Mochi' from then on." I think it's a great honor for craftsmen to have their name cherished by the common people for over 400 years like this. Chogoro Mochi (2 pieces for 340 yen) was smaller than I expected when I opened it (laughs). I imagined it would be small from the small box, but this mochi is quite impressive. It has a texture similar to sweet bean paste. The mochi rice stretches, the sugar on the surface is not overpowering, and it's elegant. Honestly, I didn't feel the bean paste much. I think two pieces are good for one person, three would be too much considering the size.

Kyoto covered in snow from the previous day. A teahouse inside Kitano Tenmangu Shrine visited for the first shrine visit of the year. This is where the famous Chagoro Mochi is sold. I decided to enter the shop right away. I ordered a set of matcha (green tea) and Chagoro Mochi. First, I purchased a tea ticket at the entrance of the shop. The cold morning chill of Kyoto in winter is severe. When I sat at the tea ceremony, the staff brought a brazier and said, "Please warm up." Such amazing thoughtfulness. Soon, matcha and Chagoro Mochi (2 pieces) were brought to me. The Chagoro Mochi was soft and fluffy. It was delicious with a sweetness that was not too overwhelming!

When I visited Kitano Tenmangu Shrine during New Year's, I found that the shop called Chogoro Mochi inside the shrine grounds was open. I purchased a ticket for the "matcha set" at the entrance. The historical interior of the shop had a raised floor with a brazier for heating, creating a cozy atmosphere. Inside the tea shop-like setting, I first enjoyed the Chogoro Mochi and then had a cup of "go-usu" tea. It was a delicious meal, thank you very much.

This is my first time visiting Kitano Tenmangu Shrine during the autumn leaves season. I came here specifically to see the Gotoi in Momijien, which is only open during the autumn leaves and plum blossom seasons. The Gotoi is huge! The height and length of the Gotoi are impressive, and the entire Momijien is surrounded by it. It is a remnant of the earthen embankment built by Toyotomi Hideyoshi during the Momoyama period to encircle the city of Kyoto. The image is similar to the walls surrounding a medieval European town in Attack on Titan or RPG games. At the entrance of the Gotoi, I was given a snack along with my ticket and was told to enjoy it at home. So, I decided to eat the snacks I had bought earlier at the Chogoro Mochi shop inside the shrine. I made sure to sanitize my hands properly. Chogoro Mochi has a history dating back 400 years and is a specialty of the Kyoto Hyakumi Club. It is a soft mochi wrapped in thin sweet bean paste. Although it might not be an accurate representation of Momoyama period mochi due to the generous use of sugar, it must have been a delicious treat back then. However, when tasted in modern times, it was just okay. Due to COVID-19, they had suspended their eat-in services like the green tea set and were only offering takeout.

This is a shop located within the grounds of Kitano Tenmangu Shrine. It feels like a place with blessings, and the appearance of the store is charming and intriguing. I purchased the Nagaro Mochi for 980 yen. The box has a calm atmosphere. When opened, there is a paper explaining the origin of Nagaro Mochi. It is made using a traditional method that has been passed down for over 400 years, and it is said that Toyotomi Hideyoshi enjoyed it at tea parties. The product name is derived from the name of the craftsman who made it. You can't help but feel the history and romance. It comes in a pack of 6 without vacuum packaging, and it is additive-free, so it is best to eat it as soon as possible regardless of the expiration date. When I ate it the next day, it had become slightly hard. However, the taste is quite delicious. The outer mochi is thin, and the smooth red bean paste inside has a gentle texture. It is light and tasty, maybe because it reminds me of that era, I felt it was about 1.5 times more delicious, haha. Thank you for the meal.

Something that evokes a sense of history. It seems to be a confectionery loved by Toyotomi Hideyoshi and used in tea ceremonies. A subtly sweet confection is nice. I bought it at Kitano Tenmangu Shrine. The autumn atmosphere at Tenmangu Shrine is lovely, and the simple Japanese confection matches well with Kyoto. A romance of the past!

At the sales stand of Kitano Tenmangu Shrine during the plum blossom season on weekends and holidays, Nagagoro Mochi is sold. It's a soft mochi with delicious sweet bean paste. I love it. You can buy it from 2 pieces, which is convenient. If this place is closed, the main store is also nearby, so you can walk there.

This time, it's my first trip to Kyoto in a while, as there were no overseas tourists during the early stages of the corona outbreak. I visited various places that I hadn't been to before due to the overwhelming number of people. Kitano Tenmangu Shrine is one of them, but it's cold so taking a break is nice. I apologize for not providing feedback on the products, but sitting inside the atmospheric store and having tea was the most delicious. It truly warmed my heart.

When I visited Kitano Tenmangu Shrine, I saw a sign that said "Kitano specialty, Chagoro Mochi being sold." I eagerly headed in that direction and found a shop and a store inside the shrine grounds. It seems that the name comes from Hideyoshi, so it must be a mochi with a long history. I decided to buy "Chagoro Mochi 2 pieces (340 yen including tax)" at the store. There was a veranda with a red carpet laid out in front of the store, so I asked if I could sit there. They said, "Sure, go ahead," so I sat down and took a bite. The small and cute mochi was very soft and chewy despite being thin. Inside, there was a refined sweet red bean paste. It was so small that I finished it in one bite. It seems that it is usually served with green tea at the store. I bet it would go well with green tea. Thank you for the meal.

Located in the precincts just inside the east gate of Kitano Tenmangu Shrine, a short walk up from Imadegawa Street on Gojo Street in Kamigyo Ward, Kyoto City. The appearance is dignified and blends in with the surroundings, while the interior has a simple yet elegant folk craft atmosphere. The menu consists of a set of Nagaro Mochi and roasted green tea or matcha, with a takeout counter also available on the premises. The Nagaro Mochi and roasted green tea set is priced at 380 yen, featuring Nagaro Mochi with a simple appearance wrapped in strained sweet bean paste. The meticulously rolled Nagaro Mochi has a beautiful finish, with a light chewiness and a smooth surface. The mochi is made from Echizen rice from Shiga Prefecture, offering a slightly elastic and chewy texture. The strained sweet bean paste has a smooth texture that brings out the flavor of the azuki beans, with a light and high-quality gentle sweetness. The balance between the soft mochi and the fresh strained sweet bean paste is exquisite, providing a moist and harmonious taste experience. The roasted green tea complements the mellow sweetness of Nagaro Mochi, offering a refreshing and smooth taste without bitterness or astringency. This mochi was highly praised and named by Toyotomi Hideyoshi during the Kitano Daisaito tea ceremony, with its innovative feature of being wrapped in sweet bean paste at the time. The shop is open on Saturdays and Sundays until March 25th, making it convenient to visit during a pilgrimage to Kitano Tenmangu Shrine.
