I don't remember exactly, but when I was a child, I used to eat something called "oyaki". I think I might have eaten it here in Iwamizawa. I decided to visit after seeing it on TV recently. It seems that this is the only place in Iwamizawa that sells it. I tried the Mont Blanc that was featured on TV, and also bought some anko. The Mont Blanc costs 160 yen including tax, and the anko costs 130 yen including tax. The Mont Blanc is actually Mont Blanc cream. When I cut it in half, the cream was very soft and almost dripping. The skin was thick, so the amount of cream inside was not that much. On the other hand, maybe if there was more cream, it would have spilled out while eating. So, maybe the amount is intentionally small? The anko filling is not too sweet and has a good texture of red beans, very delicious. As for the Mont Blanc, maybe my expectations were too high, but it felt a bit lacking. It was too soft, and I thought it would be better with a bit more stickiness. Having grown up eating imagawayaki, obanyaki, and kaitenyaki, and then coming back to Hokkaido where I was born and raised to eat "oyaki", it brought back memories of my childhood that I rarely get to experience.

For some reason, the storefront gives me a nostalgic feeling. They have a wide variety of options, and I was happy to see that the oyaki was large. Personally, I had only known oyaki from a certain famous store, so I was surprised by how big and heavy it was here. The cheese had a nice acidity and was not too sweet. The chocolate was a bit bitter. The red bean paste was reliably delicious. I definitely want to try their okonomiyaki next time.

In various parts of Japan, they are called imagawayaki, obanyaki, kaitenyaki, and hachiraku manju, but in Hokkaido, they are mainly referred to as "oyaki". Among the oyaki trio with Murata in Ebetsu and Natsukashi Kan in Kushiro, this shop plays a part with its unique branding. In addition to the classic red bean paste and cream fillings, they also offer chocolate and cheese options, which tend to sell out quickly. They also have limited edition oyaki with seasonal flavors that are also very popular. Although there is an eat-in corner, the best way to enjoy oyaki is to eat them while walking with the small paper bag they come in. It's known that it's better to have good manners, but it's hard to resist.

I take the JR train from Chashinai and get off at Iwamizawa. During the 20-minute wait for the connecting train, I head to "Oyaki no Kikusuido" for some snacks. If there were no pre-made snacks, that would be a total bummer... Suddenly, a bad outcome crosses my mind. I enter the shop and check the menu, then order "An" and "Cream @110 yen (tax included)". The shop also has tables where you can eat in. The total comes to 220 yen. The snacks are wrapped in paper, taped, and placed in a plastic bag before being handed to me. I dash back to the station just in time to catch my train. I start eating the snacks right away. They are piping hot and don't taste like they were pre-made. The red bean paste is chunky and not too sweet, with a generous amount for the price. The cream is also not too sweet, thick and creamy enough to drip if you're not careful. Thank you for the meal.

While driving through the city of Iwamizawa, I noticed a sign that said "oyaki" and decided to stop. Inside the shop, there was a sweet aroma in the air as the female owner was baking "oyaki" right in front of me. In Hokkaido, "oyaki" refers to imagawayaki. They had five flavors available: red bean paste, cream, chocolate, cheese, and a custom flavor. Since it was right after opening, only red bean paste and cream were ready, so I bought those. It felt like I had traveled back in time as I enjoyed the nostalgic taste of "oyaki." The slightly larger size had a crispy exterior and a moist dough filled with plenty of red bean paste or creamy custard. It was delicious and I was truly impressed. I look forward to trying the other three flavors next time.

This is a shop that has been around for a long time. It is larger and cheaper compared to other ohagi shops, and the taste is delicious. There are many different flavors to choose from, and the staff are very kind. They are also generous, and I love this shop. It is popular among students as well. It often sells out by the evening. One highly recommended item, although it is only available for a limited time, is the okonomiyaki flavor. It is very delicious, with a generous portion that is perfect for a light meal. It is only sold during the winter season. Whenever I am nearby, I always make sure to stop by and buy some.

This shop is always a must-visit place since it was in its previous location. It's best to eat while it's still warm, but it's also good even when it's cold.

In winter, the popular traditional oyaki shop in Iwamizawa offers a winter limited edition oyaki called "Okonomi". This is because Iwamizawa is a major producer of onions, and "Okonomi" uses plenty of locally grown onions, which are only available from the autumn harvest to the early spring when they can be preserved. Once the stock runs out, you can't eat it until the next autumn. People come from outside the area to buy it, as onions from other places like Hokkaido or Kitami won't do. I arrived around 11 am on a weekday before heading to Sapporo, and decided to buy some "Okonomi" for a quick bite. The oyaki was not ready yet, so I waited for about 20 minutes. It was a popular choice among customers, and many were ordering it. I got one "Okonomi" and one cheese oyaki. After 20 minutes, I received my order and rushed to the station to eat it while it was still warm. The "Okonomi" had a fluffy texture with a generous amount of sweet onions, and the cheese oyaki was filled with melted cheese. The flavors were delicious, and the experience was worth it. I would definitely recommend trying it if you are a fan of mayonnaise. Overall, it was a delightful experience and I would love to have it again before the season ends.

[Completely Non-Smoking] A long-established shop selling oyaki, located in the commercial area in front of Iwamizawa Station. It used to operate in a wooden, charming building along Sanjo Street, but now it is operating in a new location due to the station redevelopment. The shop is located in the 3rd block of Sanjo Nishi 3-chome in the station area. Revisited on October 2, 2017, at 1:30 pm. I have been a fan of this shop for over 20 years since I first discovered it. When I lived in Toyohoro, Ebetsu City, I used to go there a few times by bicycle. I tried to visit several times after starting day trips cycling within a 100 km radius from Shin-Sapporo, but it was often closed due to being sold out. This visit was after a long time. I purchased one cream oyaki. I ate it at home this time, and it was delicious even when cold. The moist and sweet cream with a firm dough. I would like to continue using this shop in the future.

My husband said there is a delicious ohagi shop, so I hurried to find it on Tabelog. There is no big sign, so you might miss it if you go by car, so please be careful. I ordered the classic red bean and cream ohagi, and the cream had a nice stamp on it. It's big, and only 100 yen? The red bean is coarse and sweet, and it's so big that it's very satisfying to eat. This is the best cost performance.

Kikusuido, a shop known for its delicious "oyaki" dumplings, has moved locations and also updated its page on the food review website. Despite the move, the shop has maintained its unchanged taste over the years. The oyaki dumplings are truly delicious. What's more, their shaved ice in the summer is also famous. While there are now many shops nationwide offering huge portions of shaved ice, this shop has been consistently serving amazing shaved ice for decades. And the prices are reasonable too. The shop's owner is kind and full of hospitality. This is a must-try treat that you'll crave every summer.

I was curious about it, but with the self-restraint and school closures, it's not easy to get out and walk around. Today, after finishing my night shift, I wanted to go to bed early, but my children's irregular schedule is too tough. So, I promised to go for a walk during lunch. They were waiting for me when I woke up. We went to a place we usually pass by, but today they were open. I felt inspired and chose okonomiyaki. I thought about getting cheese too, but they only had one left, so I got two cream and one chocolate okonomiyaki. I should have just gotten one cheese looking back (laughs). On the way back, they were still warm, and when we got home, I went straight to bed. When I woke up, the kids were eating the cream one and said it was delicious and warm. I didn't even think about that (laughs). First, the okonomiyaki. It was so delicious, with a thick skin and plenty of mayonnaise, a taste I've never had before. I thought about stopping after one, but then I had the chocolate one too. I think the savory one might go better with it. For me, okonomiyaki > chocolate. It was so satisfying for 140 yen, a happiness that was too much. I hope I can buy it again. Thank you for the meal.
