I want to eat sushi on Sushi Yokocho in Otaru, Hokkaido! Upon arriving in Otaru, we headed straight to Sushi Yokocho. It was snowing quite heavily, and after walking along the abandoned track of the former JR Temiya Line, the kids said they wanted to eat warm udon. The restaurant we wanted to go to was fully booked, so we ended up at "Otaru Asahi Sushi." It seemed to be a popular place, but we managed to get a table as it was still early in the day. The restaurant was quite spacious and easy to enter. I was curious about Otaru Beer, so I toasted with Otaru Beer Dunkel. It had a deep brown flavor. My wife had Otaru Beer Pilsner. Since we came all the way here, we decided to order the luxurious Asahi Sushi selection sushi set (with miso soup) for 5,500 yen. The kids also wanted the same. The set included hirame, maguro otoro, awabi, maguro akami, botan ebi, hotate, uni, ikura, zuwai-gani, toro salmon, hotate-gai, tamago-yaki, and aburi toro - a total of 12 pieces. The otoro, uni, and toro salmon were all deliciously sweet. The botan ebi had eggs inside and was also very good. The crunchy texture of the awabi was also enjoyable. The younger one seemed to have developed a liking for awabi after trying uni. We also had Chitose Tsuru Junmai Nama, a sake named after the restaurant. It was easy to drink and paired well with the sushi. Of course, they also have various more affordable sets and individual items available.
