I made a reservation and visited the restaurant. It is located on the first floor of a new building by the riverside in Nakasu, with an eel flag as a landmark. The stylish interior plays jazz music and there are private rooms available. I was guided to a private room since I had a reservation, and ordered the Unagi Kikugawa set meal. While waiting, I enjoyed the view of the river and boats for about 15 minutes. The set meal arrived with half an eel, sashimi, rice, pickles, namasu, and soup. I started with the eel, which was delicious! The skin was crispy, the meat was tender, and the sauce had a gentle sweetness. The sashimi was fresh, the rice was slightly firm, and the pickles and soup were tasty. There were two types of sansho pepper, whole and powdered, and sauce was also provided with cutlery. I was impressed by how the meal made me want to keep eating! It was a truly deep experience that made me realize the complexity of eel.

Our family enjoyed eel during the Bon holidays in a room with a beautiful view along the river in Nakasu. We happened to be there during a laser light show on the river, which added to the experience. We also tried grilled eel (shown in the second photo), but I thought it could be a bit whiter for a better presentation.

The location of the shop and the visible grilling area inside create a nice atmosphere! However, the bad customer service blows it all away. The attitude of the woman with her hair tied back is really bad. Saying "We're fully booked and can't accommodate you now" to customers without any concern. Also saying to another customer, "We have reservations after this, so I can't say when you'll be seated," with a bad attitude. After this incident, I don't want to go back anymore. I can't recommend it to anyone. Visited with 3 people around 1 pm on July 19, 2023.

I visited this restaurant for lunch as it was close to my home and I had been interested in it for a while. I arrived with one other person at 1:09 PM and we were seated at a table in the middle of the restaurant. I ordered the Hitsumabushi, which I love. It arrived in about 12 minutes. There were 10 customers before us and 4 customers after us. I ordered the signature Hitsumabushi for 5060 yen including tax. It is cooked quickly over their own brand of Binchotan charcoal to lock in the flavor, resulting in a crispy exterior and a fluffy interior. I enjoyed the first bowl as is, the second bowl with condiments, and the third bowl with the broth poured over it. The eel sauce was also delicious, making it hard to choose between eating it as is or with the broth. Either way, it was delicious. I would definitely like to come back here when I crave Hitsumabushi again. Thank you for the meal.

Fukuoka City, Shunkichi Unagi 4th Generation Kikukawa, Nakasu Shunkichi Store. Had a bowl of grilled and sauce-grilled eel. It tastes best with actual sansho pepper. The eel seems to be a bit smaller compared to when they first opened, but it was delicious so I will go back again.

The airplane was delayed by an hour and a half due to strong winds, causing me to arrive significantly late for my reservation, right before closing time. However, they welcomed me warmly. The eel was fluffy and tender on the inside, crispy on the outside, and very delicious. The grilled eel liver was not skewered, which was unusual, but it was marinated in a secret sauce, making it soft and very tasty. I would like to take my time and savor it next time.

While walking in Hakata, I was drawn to a restaurant with a delicious-sounding name and decided to visit. I ordered a Hitsumabushi, which was made by an eel wholesaler. They pay attention to the quality of the eel and even the container. When I tried it, the outside was crispy while the inside was fluffy, which is my preferred type of eel. It seems they also have a store in Aichi.

On Christmas Eve, I visited an Italian restaurant, so the next day's lunch was decided to be Japanese cuisine. I visited Yondaime Kikukawa, which recently opened this year. The menu recommended Hitumabushi and I ordered it without hesitation. After about 20 minutes, the Hitumabushi arrived. First, I simply scooped the eel and rice into a bowl, sprinkled some sansho pepper, and took a bite. The crispy charred flavor and the sweetness of the sauce were exquisite. For the second serving, I added green onions and wasabi to enjoy a change in flavor. From the third serving onwards, I experimented with different combinations of dashi and sansho pepper to pursue my preferred taste. I realized that the amount of dashi and condiments suited me perfectly. The dashi and condiments were free for refills, which left me with a good impression of the service. Although the area from Hakata to Nakasu is a fierce battleground for eel restaurants, I definitely want to visit again.

Memo: I used this restaurant during lunchtime. I was able to relax and enjoy the view of the Nakagawa River. The Nagoya-based restaurant has opened a branch in Fukuoka. Mini mabushi for 3080 yen and Umaki for 1500 yen. Thank you for the delicious meal - I will definitely visit again.

I had been avoiding eel for a while due to being confined on the beautiful Noshima Island, but on this day I finally felt free. I decided to try the eel one-piece meal that I often see on social media. It was a weekday morning, and there were a few groups in private rooms, but the counter and table seats overlooking the Naka River were only occupied by a couple of other guests. I was seated at the open counter seat! I ordered the one-piece eel meal for 4,950 yen (tax included), with the option to choose the amount of rice as normal, large, small, or half. I chose normal. I wanted to have a beer, but I had plans later on, so I refrained. Although I wasn't seated at the arena seat, I could see the grilling area, and I eagerly awaited the grilling of the eel for about 10 minutes! The lid was lifted, and the one-piece eel meal was brought to me. I used a spatula to cut the eel and eat it with rice. It was a bit difficult to eat. There was prickly powder and fragrant sansho pepper on the table, as well as additional sauce, but I decided to eat the first bowl without adding anything. The surface was crispy, and the flesh was tender. However, the sauce seemed to be more like Kanto-style rather than Kyushu soy sauce, which was not to my liking. For the second bowl, I sprinkled prickly powder, and for the third bowl, I used the sansho pepper and added the extra sauce, but it didn't leave a strong impression. I finished with some more prickly powder. The fried eggplant side dish I had in between was a nice break. The eel was memorable for being too burnt, difficult to eat, and the sauce not being to my taste. It left me feeling a bit stressed. Should I drive to Hitoyoshi? Hmm, thanks for the meal!

The notification on the top of the Tabelog page reminded me that my T-point is expiring soon, so I decided to make a reservation and use it up. It was my birthday last month, so I thought why not celebrate by using the points. The restaurant is run by a long-established wholesale dealer that has been in business for over 90 years. I selected the date, time, and number of people from the top screen, and added a note in the message box saying "It's my birthday," but I felt embarrassed after sending it. When I arrived on time on the day of the reservation, I was seated at the counter seat where I could see the grilling station. I ordered a whole eel as a special treat for my birthday. I hesitated between Hitsumabushi and the whole eel, but eventually chose the latter. After a while, the staff came over and said, "Happy birthday. Here is a small service for you while we grill the eel," and they served me grilled eel bones, liver, and eggplant simmered in broth. I was surprised and very happy with the gesture. When I finished the appetizers, the whole eel dish arrived on a tray, along with a side dish of simmered eggplant. Although it was a medium-sized portion weighing 300g, the eel was so tender and flavorful with a crispy outer texture that I finished it in no time. The atmosphere along the river was also very nice.

This restaurant is famous for its one whole eel dish (tax-inclusive price of 4,950 yen). It comes with side dishes like small appetizers, liver sashimi, and pickles. The eel is served in a straight container, and has a crispy texture on the outside, making it satisfying to eat. (I personally prefer the steamed eel from the Kanto region.) It's understandable that it costs close to five thousand yen for a whole eel dish.

The eel box served in front of you contains a whole eel! This is amazing!! The eel is grilled to a crispy texture that makes a sound when you bite into it, and the smoky flavor from the charcoal is delicious. The tail end is so crispy that it's perfect for snacking. It seems like it would go well with alcohol. The sauce is not very sweet, more on the spicy side. The meat inside is fluffy and fatty enough. However, the skin is thick and there is a slight fishy smell, but that might be a matter of preference. It's a hearty and extravagant eel dish that is visually stunning and satisfying. This time, we visited Unagi Kikukawa, located at 3-3-9 Haruyoshi, Chuo-ku, Fukuoka City. It's a lunchtime visit. The restaurant is near Haruyoshi Bridge and is operated by a 90-year-old eel wholesaler, with the concept of serving the eel that they truly wanted to eat. There are a total of 16 stores in locations such as Tokyo, Osaka, Kyoto, Nagoya, Mie, Ishikawa, and Yokohama. In Fukuoka, there is this store and a take-out store at Hakata Station Ming. The interior has a traditional Japanese atmosphere and is calm. The riverside area is glass-walled and bright. There are table seats, counter seats, and private rooms available. In the center of the glass-walled kitchen, there is a charcoal grill where the eel is grilled in a spectacular manner. This is a presentation that stimulates the appetite!! (*‘ω‘ *) The order is the Special One Eel Dish for 4950 yen. It takes about 15 minutes for the dish to be served!! On a half-moon tray, there are pickles, small dishes, eel liver, and a special stacked box. When you open the wooden stacked box lid, there it is, the grilled eel!! It looks so delicious(o^O^o) And the lid has the restaurant's logo stamped on it, and the ceramic container is probably custom-made too. Plus, there's a ladle, which allows you to serve the eel neatly. First, I'll try it as it is. The eel is grilled with charcoal, crispy on the skin side and tender on the meat side!! The sauce is not as sweet as I expected. Kyushu tends to have sweeter flavors, so opinions may vary. Then, I sprinkle some powdered sansho pepper on top from the table. The flavor intensifies instantly, and it's still delicious(*^^*) The eel liver is firm and has no unpleasant taste. In the future, Haruyoshi Bridge will be more bustling with the park being developed. I enjoyed the delicious meal, thank you.

It's along the river near Haruyoshi Bridge. The grilled eel is recommended. The slightly spicy sauce and crispy grilling are excellent. We had reserved in advance and were guided to a private room. From the private room, you can see the river. Thank you very much. The eel is very delicious. The service is also good. The live cooking experience on the grill is fun. If the alcohol was a little cheaper, it would be perfect. I will use it again.

I had the limited mentaiko hitsumabushi. The portion was quite large even for regular rice, so it might be tough for those with small appetites. The eel was plump and delicious, and I thought it was the first time in a while that I had such tasty eel. The staff were also very polite and lovely.
