ITAYA
On a regular weekday at 9 am without a reservation, there were no customers when I entered, with only 2 customers coming in after me. I was seated at the end of the counter. Even though it's a popular spot for tourists on Saturdays, today being a weekday, it was quite empty. The nearby famous and more expensive sushi restaurant, Sushi no Uogashi, also had empty seats. I ordered the Market Sushi set (1430 yen). The customers who came in after me ordered their preferences. The restaurant had seating for about 5 people at the counter, 2 tables, and 2 tatami rooms. It seemed to be run by the chef and a waitress. Located on the first floor of the Central Wholesale Market behind the Sapporo Wholesale Center, the menu consisted of various sushi sets ranging from 1300 yen to 3200 yen. There were also rice bowl options like Uni Don (market price) and Ikura Don for 3200 yen. I ordered the Market Sushi set, the cheapest option, which included 10 pieces of sushi such as mackerel, octopus, crab, squid, salmon roe, salmon, sweet shrimp, tuna, flounder, and amberjack. The rice was small, so I finished it quickly. The vinegar was a bit weak, and the wasabi lacked a kick. It was tasty, but I felt that conveyor belt sushi offers better value for money. The pickled ginger on the wooden platform was delicious, but I couldn't quite distinguish the difference from conveyor belt sushi. The miso soup had shrimp heads in it, along with small fish bones, but there was hardly any meat attached. Overall, it was a good meal.
