I went to a Taiwanese restaurant that I had been curious about for a while. The restaurant was on the second floor so I couldn't see inside from outside. When I timidly entered, I found a small restaurant with two table sets and a few counter seats. The owner, a lady, was working alone, handling both serving and cooking. She seemed quite busy whenever customers came in. I started with a Qingdao beer, which I drank quickly. For appetizers, I had a special egg called "Fortune Egg," which the owner explained was believed to make wishes come true. It was quite delicious. Another appetizer I tried was a pickled vegetable dish, which was not spicy and easy to eat. For the main dish, I ordered Mapo Tofu, which was not very spicy and had a typical appearance. It seemed like they didn't use a lot of chili peppers. I'm not a fan of very spicy food, so it was okay for me. There was a regular customer sitting next to me that day, and the owner was quite talkative with them, promoting Taiwan a lot. Overall, despite feeling a bit out of place, I couldn't fully enjoy the Taiwanese cuisine.

Overall, this restaurant is located about a 5-minute walk from Sakaisuji Hommachi Station. It is a Taiwanese home cooking restaurant on the 2nd floor of a building along the Toyo-hori River. The owner, a Taiwanese woman, runs the restaurant by herself. The dishes are mainly Taiwanese home cooking and all of them are of a pretty high standard. The braised pork rice, in particular, is very delicious. The restaurant is decorated with various Taiwanese-related books and posters, giving off a foreign atmosphere. It is a slightly niche restaurant that is highly recommended for those who love Taiwan. The atmosphere inside the restaurant feels like a place for Japanese-Taiwanese exchange. The owner is very energetic and eager to share recommendations with customers. The menu mainly consists of Taiwanese home cooking dishes such as fried rice noodles, braised pork rice, and radish cakes. The restaurant also offers a variety of drinks including beer, Shaoxing wine, sake, whiskey, and wine. The reviewer enjoyed dishes like Taiwanese-style peanuts, Taiwanese dumplings, squid balls, and especially the braised pork rice, which was described as exceptionally delicious. The reviewer had a great experience at the restaurant and recommends it to others.

I visited a restaurant in Osaka, not far from Sakaisuji Hommachi, during the Taiwan boom that I'm currently experiencing. The restaurant is located on the second floor, with a sign and a red door on the first floor that could easily be overlooked. During my visit, they had a special offer of "half-price Taiwanese dumplings," so of course, I ordered them. The restaurant was quite small, with tables and a counter seating about 10 people in total. We started with Taiwanese beer, and as we were a group of three, we were served three appetizers - green peas, dried squid, and peanuts, all from Taiwan. We also ordered braised pork rice, xiaolongbao (soup dumplings), and oolong tea boiled eggs. The braised pork rice was not on the menu but was recommended as a "secret menu" item. It was more generous with ingredients than what I had in Taiwan. The xiaolongbao had thicker skin, perhaps frozen ones. The oolong tea boiled eggs were quite salty, which paired well with the beer. We also added Taiwanese dumplings, which were supposed to come in a set of five, but they gave us six since we were three. They contained wolfberries, which the owner said were good for the eyes. For dessert, we added ai yu jelly and turtle jelly. The turtle jelly is from Hong Kong, but we didn't mind. It didn't have a strong herbal smell. The ai yu jelly is not commonly found in Japan, so it was a treat for me as I enjoy its taste. We spent nearly three hours there and this was all we ordered. The owner, a friendly Taiwanese lady, took care of everything - from taking orders to cooking and serving. She was very talkative and had a lot of energy, making our time there very enjoyable. We chatted about Taiwan trips, food, politics, Japanese quirks, and more. It was a fun experience. When it came time to pay, the bill came to 2000 yen per person, with change returned. I was surprised by the generous pricing.

Located east of the Industrial Creation Hall in Sakaisuji Honmachi. You can choose from three types of beer: Taiwan Beer, Tsingtao Beer, and Ichiban Shibori. While waiting for your food, you can enjoy a drink with walnuts, peanuts, pickled vegetables, and watermelon seeds. I ordered a glass of baijiu (56% alcohol), and they gave me a complimentary glass. I also ordered Shaoxing wine, and since there was a little left, they let me take the bottle home. You can request to have the Shaoxing wine warmed up. The owner, Mama Yang, is usually involved in business matching, consulting, and interpreting for Taiwan and mainland China businesses. The taste is similar to Taiwanese cuisine, which may appeal to those with experience in Taiwan or studying there. The capacity of the restaurant, which can accommodate about 10 people, seems just right. The day I visited, the table next to us seemed to have people who frequently travel to Taiwan. Overall, the dishes were decent. The dumplings were likely frozen but tasty (probably from Taiwan, which tends to have better quality). The shrimp roe noodles are popular, but I personally don't enjoy them much. The stir-fried rice vermicelli is recommended. The total cost for three people was just under 12,000 yen, making it quite affordable at less than 4,000 yen per person. I would definitely like to visit again. Keep up the good work, Mama Yang!

It's cheap. I always wonder if they're making a profit when I pay. It's a shop where Taiwan lovers gather. Quite a few hardcore enthusiasts also gather here. But it's okay if you don't know much about Taiwan. It's easy to stop by because it's cheap. The number of customers varies by day. Weekdays are recommended. When they have free time, Madam Yang makes dumplings. I thought they were pre-made dumplings, but they were actually homemade by Madam Yang. If you're lucky, you might come across a scene like that. Recommended dishes: Old Wine Fried Rice, Vermicelli, Oolong Tea Egg, Taiwanese Sticky Rice. The Old Wine Fried Rice is quite chewy and delicious. They say the key to Vermicelli is steaming, not frying. It's a Taiwanese custom to peel the eggshell while making a wish. The sticky rice is cute to look at, so you can enjoy it with your eyes as well. It's worth listening to Madam Yang's high-frequency voice.

The third stop at the Osaka waterfront bar is just straight ahead from Majima-san's place. It's nice to have such a close neighborhood. Inside the shop, it has a Little Taiwan vibe, and the owner, a very friendly lady, engages in conversation with you. We took a break with the special tea, dried tangerine peel, and Taiwanese-style mapo tofu. The tea had a lot of flavor, maybe because the cups were small? The dried tangerine peel was surprisingly delicious, similar to Hoshiume plum. I wonder if they sell it somewhere. As for the mapo tofu, I couldn't quite pinpoint what made it Taiwanese, but it was tasty with its spicy seasoning. I felt like having more rice. We also tried the water dumplings (¥190), which were on half-price at the time, so we ordered them separately from the bar. The regular price is 380 yen. They were lightly seasoned and delicious.
