(Visited in early February 2021) It was a weekday dinner. I was in Osaka for work and had to catch the Shinkansen back to Tokyo in the evening. Before boarding the train, I decided to have a drink at Osaka Ekimaru. After wandering around a bit, I settled on this place because it was not crowded. I arrived around 6:00 PM and there were two other customers. The seating was a bit tight, but the atmosphere was quite nice! I ordered the "Choi nomi set" for 1,100 yen, which included two drinks and a daily appetizer. Both drinks were highballs, with a strong whiskey taste. The appetizer was sweet vinegar-marinated wakasagi, which was soft and delicious. Due to strong winds, the Shinkansen was delayed. I had already reserved a later train, so I had some time to spare. I then ordered some oden - egg (150 yen), chikuwa (150 yen), and thick tofu (180 yen). It was a luxurious experience to have oden with a drink. The light-colored dashi broth soaked into the ingredients well, especially the chikuwa. Next, I had two skewers - chicken breast (190 yen) and chikuwa with cheese (200 yen). As I finished my highballs, I asked for a fourth one (430 yen). The skewers came with a sauce that seemed like a mixture of mirin, soy sauce, and chopped green onions. However, the skewers were delicious on their own, so I ended up not using the sauce. With some time still left, I ordered a fourth drink. In total, it came to 2,830 yen, which was quite affordable. I paid with PayPay and with four highballs in small glasses, I could sleep comfortably on the train. (laughs)
