The sight of the master quietly making sushi in a shop bustling with foreign tourists was very impressive. When I saw Uni and Ikura donburi on the menu with a market price, I was nervous until I paid, but it turned out to be 5,000 yen, which seemed reasonable. I debated whether to order the crab soup separately, but I was grateful that all menu items came with pickles. My companion ordered the chef's recommended sushi set, and each piece had thick toppings and the shrimp was neatly arranged. I also helped finish everything neatly.

I was recommended by a local man while walking around Otaru without a specific destination. He struck up a conversation with me, asking where I was from, and when I said Tokyo, he mentioned that he used to live in Shimokitazawa. He gave me some sightseeing tips, mentioning the Music Box Museum and advising me not to go to the sushi restaurant near the station because it's overpriced. Instead, he recommended Kikuzushi, a local spot where the food is cheap and delicious. I decided to give it a try and found that the sushi was fresh and tasty, although the selection was not extensive. The set I ordered cost around ¥3700 and was beautifully presented in glass dishes, giving it a charming Otaru vibe. However, I didn't find it particularly cheap. While dining, I overheard another customer at the counter saying they had been recommended by a passerby, which made me feel a bit skeptical. Nonetheless, the staff at the restaurant were friendly. Later on, I noticed signs warning about people posing as tourist guides to lure visitors to specific shops, and I hoped that the man who recommended Kikuzushi was not one of them.

I visited this restaurant on a regular day. It took me 2 hours from Furano to get here, but I was glad I came to Otaru because of the warm hospitality of the chef! I also appreciated the Furano melon service. I would like to revisit when I come to Hokkaido again. Please stay well until then.

Before going to Sapporo, make a detour to Otaru! The trip starts with having sushi at Hokkaido Sushi Kikuzushi in Otaru. The place is located in a dining area around the Hokkaido Otaru Canal. There were many options, but I went with my gut feeling and entered this place. Despite the extreme cold outside, the inside was warm and spacious. There were also seats on the second floor. The counter was a bit small, but there were plenty of table seats. In the middle of the counter, the chef was skillfully making sushi. For lunch, they mainly offer sets with a variety of toppings like Otoro, Chutoro, shrimp, sea urchin, crab, salmon roe, scallop, and more, all representing Hokkaido! It felt like a local sushi restaurant with generous portions. I had a pleasant chat with the chef at the end, creating a friendly atmosphere during the meal. Check average: 3500 yen. Seating: tables, counter. Nearest station: Minami-Otaru Station. Thank you for the meal!

A beautiful and elegant interior with a lovely master. This area is known for its seafood bowls, but this restaurant offers good value for money and a quiet, delicious dining experience. It seems to be less crowded with tour groups or students, so you can enjoy your meal in a relaxed atmosphere. I recommend the Kikuchirashi dish, with thick slices of fresh fish that are very satisfying. The taste is delicious! The crab soup is also full of meat and warmed me up. Thank you to the master for the great service! I will definitely visit again when I come to Otaru. Thank you for the wonderful meal.

First visit on Wednesday at 11:30 am. The restaurant was somewhat crowded. When we arrived, there was only one other group, but it got a bit crowded during lunchtime as a group of customers arrived. The restaurant has counter seats, 4-person tables, and 2-person tables. The interior was clean and elegant. The staff greeted us with a smile and were very polite. The head chef was also very friendly. We ordered the chef's recommended bamboo sushi and pine sushi. The food arrived a bit late because the head chef made each one from scratch. The rice was just the right texture, firm enough to hold together but soft. The vinegar rice was perfectly balanced and had a nice aroma. The sushi pieces were large and satisfying to eat, especially the shrimp, scallop, and clam which were excellent in both texture and taste. Overall rating: S grade (90 points or above) - A must-visit for deliciousness, highly recommended to everyone.

On the final day of my trip to Hokkaido, I took a break in front of a convenience store in Otaru and was recommended by an old man to try Kikuzushi. I decided to give it a try and ordered a seafood bowl for around 3500 yen. It came with three scallops, one shrimp, sea urchin, and salmon roe. The scallops were sweet and firm, while the salmon roe was juicy and delicious. I'm satisfied that I was able to conquer all the foods I wanted to try in Hokkaido. Thank you, old man!

JR Otaru Station is a 5-minute drive away. This is a standalone store located along Sakaimachi Main Street, bustling with tourists. The interior has been renovated from a warehouse, giving it a unique feel! Inside, there are counter seats and about three table seats in this small shop. On this day, I ordered a seafood bowl for 2,500 yen. It was topped with sea urchin, salmon roe, scallops, and shrimp. The rice is seasoned with a gentle vinegar flavor. The sea urchin is Ezo Murasaki. It doesn't have a sharp taste, so it might be salted sea urchin without alum! Delicious♪ The seasoning and texture of the salmon roe are good! The scallops and shrimp are consistently tasty. For this price in the heart of a tourist area, it's quite reasonable! The chef is also very friendly, so you can enjoy your sushi without feeling nervous!

I ordered the seafood bowl (2800 yen, but discounted to 2500 yen for early birds). The rice was warm vinegar rice topped with sea urchin, salmon roe, scallops, and shrimp. The sea urchin was sweet and melted in my mouth! The scallops were large and there were three of them! It was delicious! I was very satisfied. The owner and the hostess were both very kind and welcoming.

Kikuzushi is a popular sushi restaurant located on Sakaimachi Street in Otaru. The street is lined with over 10 sushi restaurants, but Kikuzushi stood out to me. I ordered the Matsunigiri set (1,944 yen) which includes 9 pieces of sushi and complimentary crab soup. The atmosphere inside the restaurant was cozy, with both counter and table seating available for over 20 people. I felt satisfied with my choice as the quality of the sushi was better than the first restaurant I visited. The set was under 2,000 yen and came with crab soup, making it a great value. Overall, I believe I made a good choice among the many sushi restaurants on this street.

This is a visit squeezed in between business trips ^ ^ It might be my first time visiting a sushi restaurant in Otaru? For some reason, my eyes were drawn to the discounted seafood bowl, so I ended up having a bowl instead of sushi. There seemed to be a lot of tourists. The bowl was very luxurious with sea urchin, salmon roe, scallops, and botan shrimp. The salmon roe was incredibly delicious and to my liking. It's amazing how different it can be from one restaurant to another (*´∇`*) The atmosphere of the staff was also good, and I had a pleasant meal! Thank you for the delicious meal (*´∇`*)

When my mother and I went on a trip to Hokkaido, we visited Otaru in search of delicious seafood bowls. Although the restaurant didn't have many reviews on Tabelog, the reviews on a certain global map site were very good, so we decided to try it out. We arrived around 2:00 PM, just before the lunch rush ended, so the restaurant was not crowded and we were able to be seated right away. I ordered a seafood bowl for about 2,500 yen, and my mother ordered a bamboo sushi for about 2,000 yen. Both dishes were cheaper than what we would pay in Tokyo, and not only were they visually appealing, but they also tasted amazing. The sea urchin was beautifully colored and melted in my mouth while maintaining a good texture, and the shrimp and squid were firm and delicious. There were many other restaurants nearby, but we were glad we chose this one. If we ever visit Otaru again, we would definitely come back here.
