[A cafe in Chitose City, Hokkaido] Located in the outskirts of Chitose City, along the Chitose River. To get there, exit the Doto Expressway at Chitose Interchange, then drive about 2km towards the city center on Route 77. At the large intersection near Hotel Grand Terrace, turn left onto National Route 36. At the 5th traffic light, turn left at the corner of Seven-Eleven (Nishiki-cho). Continue straight on Route 16 towards Lake Shikotsu for 5km, then at an intersection without a traffic light just before the Chitose River (with a MEON sign), turn right diagonally and you will find the cafe. It is a 15-minute drive (8km) from Chitose IC. There is parking space for about 10 cars. The cafe is closed on Thursdays from March to October and on Wednesdays and Thursdays from November to February. While it is recommended to access by car, there are also 6 round-trip buses per day from New Chitose Airport and JR Chitose Station. For more details, please check the official website.
I visited this cafe with a friend who lives in Hokkaido and loves this place. It is advisable to make a phone reservation before visiting, as lunch may end early. The interior of the cafe is decorated with stylish bookshelves and accessories, perfect for girls. The most distinctive feature is the open view from the counter seats. You can see the coniferous forest along the Chitose River and a handmade garden, with little birds flying around. While not a breathtaking scenic spot, it offers a close-up view of nature in Chitose, making it a prime seat. Binoculars are also available at the counter for birdwatching.
The lunch menu includes the following options:
- Flammkuchen: Onion Bacon, Smoked Salmon, Bismarck, Arugula and Goat Cheese
- Cocotte Dishes: Spinach and Tomato Penne, Lasagna, Mediterranean Seafood, Pot-au-Feu
You can add coffee or Chinese tea and dessert. Flammkuchen is like a galette (buckwheat crepe), and the one we tried was the Onion and Bacon flavor. It is folded in a square shape, resembling more of a pizza. The sauce is not too salty, with a creamy cheese flavor, bacon, and sweet onions. The main highlight is the sweet and crispy onions. We also had Berry Soda, a refreshing drink with a hint of berry acidity. The salad with pumpkin dressing was fresh and delightful. For dessert, we had a trio of Milk Gelato, Apricot Tart, and Chocolate Catorce. The natural sweetness of Hokkaido milk in the gelato was memorable.
In conclusion, this cafe offers a stylish and lovely atmosphere where you can feel the essence of Hokkaido. It is a great place to enjoy the nature of Chitose in a cozy setting.
