It's a winter story (∂△∂;) I wasn't sure if I could drink during the day in Nishinakajima, but I got off the train without knowing much. I found that there were ramen shops and Chinese restaurants open, but surprisingly not many izakayas where you could drink during the day. Feeling despair, I wandered around and saw shining lanterns on the second floor of a building. It was a seafood izakaya operated by Monterosa, known for its discerning eye for quality. Surprisingly, they are open from 11:00 am to 5:00 am on weekdays ( ゚Д゚) It started raining, so I didn't have time to hesitate, and I went in to check it out.
I sat down and was handed the lunch menu, but politely declined and ordered a draft beer using the touch panel system. Drinks included:
- Draft beer 498 yen
- Suntory highball 398 yen
- Mizoreshu (mixed sake) 398 yen
- Junmai sake from "Takashimizu" in Akita 398 yen, etc.
It's nice to be able to enjoy mizoreshu at this price. The junmai sake with a discerning eye is also a good deal. It's a proper junmai sake from Takashimizu, with a rich flavor (*'ω'*)
For food, I ordered:
- Fresh squid sashimi 1,580 yen
Unfortunately, I couldn't eat anything except the body raw, so I had it grilled on the table grill. The body had a slightly mushy texture, and the tentacles were okay after grilling. Overall, it didn't leave a significant impression.
- Assorted tuna sashimi 698 yen
The texture of the skipjack and albacore was strangely soft and lacked flavor. It didn't really impress me.
- Seared mackerel with condiments 598 yen
Served with onions, green onions, chopped ginger, wasabi, and plenty of condiments. It's seared with a gas burner, enhancing the richness of the fish. It's a good dish.
- Smashed cucumber with dried sakura shrimp 398 yen
The dried sakura shrimp added a nice fragrance, but the seasoning was almost plain. It was too bland, but I managed to enjoy it with some sesame oil and salt.
The quality of the food didn't seem to justify the price, but it was nice to be able to drink all day. Now that it's getting dark outside, maybe it's time to start hitting up some more izakayas? Let's try another place. Thank you for the meal.
