5th day of business trip in Sapporo. On this day, I was flying back to Tokyo in the afternoon. While waiting for my laundry to dry, I took my usual walk to Sapporo Central Wholesale Market and had breakfast at Aji no Nikko-san. The restaurant is located at North 10th Street, West 21st Street, about a 6-minute walk from Nijuyonken Station. Aji no Nikko-san is a long-established restaurant founded in 1970. It was the first restaurant in the market to offer "seafood bowls" and has been featured nationwide. I arrived around 9:30 am. The restaurant was clean and well-maintained. There were about 30 seats at the counter and tables combined. There were 2 groups of 6 customers already there. I sat at the counter by myself. The table was set with sauce, soy sauce, chopsticks, ladle, toothpicks, and a tissue box. After being seated, water was served. The menu consisted of set meals, seafood bowls, and side dishes. In terms of cost performance, the set meals were excellent, but since I hadn't had much seafood during my Sapporo trip, I decided to indulge in a seafood bowl this time. I ordered the Seafood Bowl (medium) for 4,000 yen. The seafood bowls come in small, medium, and large sizes, and there were actual bowls displayed on the counter for reference. The dish arrived in about 10 minutes. Wow! How beautiful is this presentation! I almost fell in love with Sapporo even more and almost canceled my return flight! The seafood bowl included sea urchin, salmon roe, scallops, sweet shrimp, squid, crab, scallops, and salmon. On top of the rice, there were chopped seaweed, shredded omelet, cucumber, and even fish cake hidden underneath. The freshness and volume of the ingredients were outstanding. In particular, the sea urchin, sweet shrimp, and scallops were amazing! The miso soup with seaweed and tofu was also perfect for breakfast. The price of the seafood bowl at this market area was slightly higher compared to other restaurants, but the freshness, volume, and beautiful presentation made it worth it. Aji no Nikko-san may have the best quality seafood bowl in the Sapporo Central Wholesale Market (including the outside market)! The service at Aji no Nikko-san was also excellent. If you are looking to enjoy a beautiful seafood bowl, be sure to visit this restaurant!
