I stayed at the Kuwanoya Inn in Ukiha City, near the border between Fukuoka and Oita prefectures, for one night with breakfast included. I was relaxed by the smooth hot water with a faint sulfur scent, and enjoyed breakfast in a large hall-like area. The breakfast had a calming atmosphere typical of a ryokan, with Fukuoka specialties like mentaiko and takana. It felt very Fukuoka-like, which I appreciated.

Today's lunch was at Chikugo River Onsen, "Kuwanoya," for a cherry blossom viewing party with the neighborhood association. We soaked in the slippery, bubbly hot spring and enjoyed a kaiseki meal. There were about 10 dishes overflowing from the table, but there wasn't a single disappointing dish. Surprisingly, the sashimi was the most delicious. The fish was fresh and there was a wide variety, making us very satisfied! In particular, the sea bream, yellowtail, flounder, and shrimp were all very juicy! Whether it was the grilled beef, hot pot, or palate cleanser, everything was excellent. We could catch a glimpse of the skill level of the chef. The waitresses were also very good at serving customers, making it a very enjoyable day. These days, there is a drastic decrease in interactions with neighbors. It may only happen once a year, but having days like this might be more Japanese-like. Casual gatherings, drinking, singing, and having a good time. We are aware that neighborhood disputes can arise. I was reminded of the importance of getting along with neighbors. Thank you for the feast.
