Enjoy cheap and delicious side dishes starting from 130 yen at a longstanding cafeteria in Kyushu Hakata, Ichizen Meshi Aokido Maido! This day, we went on an expedition to drink and explore in Kyushu Hakata! The restaurant is a longstanding popular cafeteria called Ichizen Meshi Aokido located about a 6-minute walk from Akasaka Station on the subway. The atmosphere inside the restaurant is cozy, with tables in the middle, 2-person tables along the walls, and counter seats on the opposite wall. The menu offers a variety of affordable and attractive dishes, truly reflecting the charm of a popular cafeteria. First, I started with a sweet potato shochu with water for 270 yen! The sweet potato shochu used here is Satsuma Shiranami, which is delicious. In Kyushu, shochu is served with a strong water ratio, which is great. When I looked at the displayed side dishes, I was surprised again! There are grilled fish dishes starting from 130 yen! I decided to try the simmered mackerel for 130 yen. The mackerel simmered in a sweet and savory sauce was delicious with a rich flavor. The dried radish served alongside was a nice touch. I couldn't believe it was only 130 yen! I also tried the ham for 130 yen, lightly grilled, juicy, and perfect as a drinking snack. When looking at the menu, I found a Hakata-style mentaiko omelet for 380 yen, so I ordered it. It arrived hot and fresh! And it was huge. When I split it with chopsticks, I found plenty of mentaiko inside with the egg's perfect softness. It had a slight buttery flavor and the mentaiko's unique texture, making it delicious. I ordered another dish, the miso-stir-fried eggplant for 220 yen! The rich miso sauce with eggplant was made with finely chopped meat, making it quite delicious. This would undoubtedly be amazing with rice! After having about three glasses of shochu, I finished with the spicy grilled rice for 570 yen. As the name suggests, it was spicy with green chili peppers. It had a variety of ingredients, including red kamaboko, reminding me of Nagasaki Chanpon. The grilled rice was also incredibly delicious. Other customers were ordering the grilled rice and katsudon, so they must be popular menu items. As I love katsudon, I'll definitely try it next time I visit. I absolutely loved this place and will definitely be revisiting. I visited Aoki-Do in Akasaka for breakfast on Friday morning. It's located right in front of Bar Palm D'Or, which I hadn't noticed before. I arrived at 8:43 AM and there were 4 customers already inside. The restaurant has table seating and a counter facing the wall, and both the exterior and interior give off a nostalgic Showa era vibe. I sat at a table for two. They offer 5 types of breakfast sets, and you can also order from their regular menu, including dishes like champon and appetizers for morning drinks. They also have a variety of side dishes in the showcase. I ordered Breakfast Set B (470 yen). In about 3 minutes, a small grilled mackerel, shredded cabbage, fried egg, miso soup, pickled daikon, and a small bowl of rice were served on a tray. I poured soy sauce over the cabbage and fried egg and enjoyed them. The mackerel was small but had a good amount of fat. The fried egg was half-cooked and I put it on top of the rice. The miso soup had small pieces of tofu and fried ingredients, and the rice was a bit firm. It was delicious for the price. Thank you for the meal.

Fukuoka's restaurants are raising their prices so much, I have to start saving. It's not like the old days where you could just say "Bring me a variety of dishes!" and have them keep coming. Feeling frustrated, I remembered "I know, let's go to Aokido." Established in 1957, the nostalgic interior gives off a sense of the founding era. You'll never find the restroom on your first visit. They offer 5 sectors: ① rice bowls, ② stir-fried dishes, ③ noodles, ④ side dishes, ⑤ egg dishes, with around 40 regular items. There are also daily specials and side dishes in the showcase. The prices for each item seem to have stayed the same. It's cheap in these times! I ordered pork kimchi (500 yen), omelette (300 yen), pork tempura (250 yen) from the showcase, and a "Satsuma Hakuhai" (300 yen) on the rocks. This was the sweet potato shochu of my childhood. My dad used to say, "I like this sweet potato smell," and he was right. Sipping on the "Satsuma Hakuhai" on the rocks in a glass, it's a blissful Fukuoka night. Finally, I ended the meal with a rice set (medium rice, miso soup, mini tofu) for 350 yen. The small bottle (600 yen) was a bit pricey, but even with that, the total came to 2300 yen, and I was completely satisfied without needing a ramen finish.

I used it for breakfast. It's a popular diner in Daimyo. According to my wife, it's been around for a long time. You choose your meal from a set menu. I ordered the B set. Just to clarify, this is a casual diner, so expecting top quality would be unfair. The charm of this place is that you can quickly eat a breakfast that feels like home. And the best part? You get change back from a 500 yen coin! Looking at the photos now, it's really healthy. For those traveling on business, this could be a great place to visit!

One of the joys of being a salaryman is going on business trips! Let's start the morning in rainy season in Hakata with a walk. In Hakata city, what you look forward to is the morning set meal. The chosen spot is the restaurant "Ichizen Meshi Aokido" located in Daimyo, Chuo Ward. The recommended choice is the "Morning Set Meal" for breakfast. So, let's go with the "Morning Set Meal DX" with extra rice! The mackerel simmered in soy sauce and fried egg really enhance the deluxe feeling. The chilled tofu, natto, and boiled spinach were also a nice combination. The fried rice that the couple behind me was enjoying while drinking looked delicious too.

I had been wanting to visit this restaurant that I saw on Tabelog. I happened to pass by it, so I decided to have lunch there. It was a little after 1 pm and the restaurant was about 60-70% full. The interior had a traditional diner feel to it. They seemed to have pre-made dishes that they would heat up for you. I was tempted by the pork cutlet bowl, but ended up ordering the chicken cutlet curry (720 yen). The seating arrangement allowed for some distance between customers. After a short wait, my curry arrived. It had a homey, nostalgic flavor to it. It wasn't spicy, so even children could enjoy it. The chicken cutlet was thick and hot, freshly fried. I mixed it with the curry and enjoyed it. I wished I had ordered the large size after finishing my meal. I should have checked the menu more carefully. The large size is an extra 50 yen, and the extra-large is an extra 100 yen.

Located just west of Tenjin, in the Daimyo area where there are many apparel and dining establishments catering to young people, stands out the Showa-era style casual dining restaurant "Ichizen Meshi Aokido." Offering a variety of set meals as well as the option to choose individual side dishes, it is a "nice casual dining spot" to enjoy. Upon visiting after a long time, it is clear that the restaurant is loved by a wide range of customers, from the elderly to shop staff-like clientele. Seated at the central table (there are also counter seats facing the wall), I quickly perused the menu. While I usually order omurice, this time I decided to try the "sauce katsu don" which I had never ordered before. After about 10 minutes, the "sauce katsu don" arrived. On top of the rice were shredded cabbage, a generous portion of tonkatsu as the main dish, and plenty of sauce. The finishing touch of mayonnaise added a nice visual appeal. The tonkatsu itself was not too thick, but just the right thickness for this combination. The mayonnaise topping on the sauce katsu don may be a matter of personal preference, but it matched well in this case. However, when I come here, I always find myself curious about what other people are eating. Next time, I will challenge a different menu item. Thank you for the meal.

In the Tenjin area, there is a rare set meal restaurant. I love trendy restaurants, but I also enjoy places like this where I can relax. I stopped by a diner on my way home after drinking. The nostalgic interior and showcase caught my eye. I ordered the omurice for 540 yen. It was not the trendy fluffy omurice, but the old-fashioned style. They offer a variety of set meals at cheap and delicious prices. On another day, I had beer and meat and potato croquettes. Then I tried their favorite omurice. On a different day, I had fried rice.

As always, Aoki Shokudo is great!! The Kirin Classic Lager to start off with is excellent⤴️ And I'll have some sweet tamagoyaki as a snack. It was just a quick stop to pass the time, but it was nice to see the landlady looking well. On my way out, I saw my daughter off️ Everyday moments like this are the best. I visited this place because I heard you can drink from the morning. It was hot, but I wanted to try it out. CC Lemon Highball 330 yen, Nikujaga (meat and potato stew) 160 yen, Beef stir-fry 550 yen, Yakimeshi (fried rice) 570 yen. Cheap. The menu is simple and good. It seems like a nice place to have a light drink and meal in the morning. It would be very convenient if it was in the neighborhood, don't you think?

Standing out prominently in the Daimyo area is the sign of Ichizenmai, which looks very seasoned. Despite the appealing inexpensive menu outside, I decided to try the "Dry Curry" which is not often reviewed on Tabelog. So, what is it like? No issues with portion size! The taste is great and the rice is nice and fluffy! Is this really only 570 yen? While it doesn't come with soup or salad, if you're looking for a cheap and quick meal, this is a great option. It was crowded when I visited, but as soon as someone left, another person would come in. The memory of the older ladies working there is amazing. Even without food tickets, they would bring exactly what you ordered and during payment, without a receipt, they would say, "Here you go, the Dry Curry for 570 yen, right?" (laughs) It's impressive that even at a place like this, they accept PayPay. I'll try the rice bowl next time.

First visit #Ichizenmeshi Aokido {Ooname, Chuo-ku, Fukuoka City} I went to Ichizenmeshi Aokido on April 14, 2022 (Thursday). This place is located on the main street of Kon'ya-machi in Ooname. It was actually my first time here and I was excited. There was a recommended dish of the day displayed at the storefront! The Pork Cutlet Bowl @550 yen (tax included) is very reasonable. The Pork Loin Ginger Stir-Fry set meal is also good. Here is the menu inside the restaurant. They also have Champon and plate udon. I briefly thought about ordering plate udon, but I was told it comes with a lot of noodles. There is a corner at the back of the store where you can pick your side dishes. I ordered the Pork Loin Ginger Stir-Fry set meal @740 yen (tax included). It came with two small side dishes and pickles. The main dish of pork ginger stir-fry had plenty of meat. After leaving the original Nagahama-ya, I arrived at "Ichizenmeshi Aokido," a restaurant I wanted to visit when I came to Fukuoka in 2019 but couldn't make it. The green tent sign, red lanterns, and blue noren are all very appealing! It was 10 AM, and lively voices could be heard from inside the restaurant. I opened the sliding door and entered. To my surprise, instead of middle-aged men like me, there were only two middle-aged men, and the rest were young people in their 20s to 30s. At a table near the entrance, a group of three young women in their early 20s were drinking. Feeling a bit surprised, I sat at the vacant counter seat towards the back. I ordered a Green Label (330 yen) for a drink. A 350ml can of Green Label and a cup were served. I started with a solo cheers with the Green Label! Now, for snacks, I stood up and headed to the showcase where various side dishes were displayed. I had been eyeing this place because of the showcase filled with side dishes. This always gets me excited. I also love restaurants where large dishes are lined up on the counter. I picked a rolled omelet (130 yen) from the showcase and returned to my seat. Oh, I forgot to inform the staff, but I'll do it later. The rolled omelet had a slightly sweet taste and was fluffy and delicious. I was pleased to see that it came with sunny lettuce and cabbage even though it was only 130 yen. A woman in her mid-30s sat next to me. She had a large suitcase, so I thought she might be a traveler. However, she seemed like a regular customer and confidently said, "I can't settle down in Hakata without eating here when I come back. First, a highball!" and chatted with the staff in a friendly manner. For the next drink, I ordered a sweet potato shochu on the rocks (270 yen). I also requested a vegetable stir-fry (330 yen) for a snack. The plate was large, but the vegetable stir-fry was just the right amount for one person. It had a good seasoning and even a bit of pork in it. I wanted to drink more and snack more, but if I did, it would affect my evening drinking, so I stopped there. That's it for today, totaling 1060 yen. The staff's service was pleasant, and the lively atmosphere inside the restaurant was fantastic. It would be fun to come with a few people and have a daytime drinking session. Thanks for the meal.
