IKKO'S FILMS
There are many restaurants across the country that are difficult to make reservations at, and this is one of them. New reservations are not accepted. The only way to visit is to be brought by a regular customer, and even then, only a select few who are favored by the owner, Masachan. Masachan is quite a unique character and is quick to anger. I heard that if you don't eat when he serves the food, or if you ask about other restaurants, meat-related trivia, or the type of beef, you will be scolded quite vigorously. Some customers have even been refused the meat if they upset him too much. Visiting this restaurant is already a high hurdle, and even after visiting, it seems quite nerve-wracking. But... it's also exciting. And so, I received an invitation from a regular customer to visit this restaurant. "I'll go!" I replied immediately, as missing this opportunity means never being able to go to this restaurant again. So, on the fateful day, I researched the route from Shin-Osaka and found that it would take about 1 hour with multiple train transfers. I managed to get to Kishin-Sakamizu station, but the trains were delayed. Is it just a coincidence? Nothing was going as planned. Despite being only two stations away from the nearest station, Tsumori station, the trains were running at 30-minute intervals. Unfortunately, I missed the train right in front of me, so I decided to give up on the train and take a taxi instead. The location is in Nishinari-ku, a place that people outside of Osaka may not be familiar with, and it seems to be quite a dangerous area. The scenery from the taxi gave me the impression of Southeast Asia at night, with people drinking alcohol naked on the ground, staring at you, and clearly not behaving normally. (Be careful, as outsiders can be harassed just by walking around.) Finally, I arrived at Masachan, quietly standing in the Tsurumi Bridge shopping street. It was a private party, so we bought drinks from the nearby super cheap store, Tamade. (There is no corkage fee, but be sure to clean up your own cans and bottles, or Masachan will get angry.) The interior of the restaurant was quite small, with only 7 counter seats. "Hey, young one, move over a bit more." "Yes!" (I'm still fresh at 37 years old!) Masachan was considerate so that everyone wouldn't be cramped. I visited with the president of the Yakitori Master Association, Aoki, and for some reason, Masachan seemed to get along well with President Aoki, who was in a good mood all day. But then, when he saw the leftover meat on the plate, he suddenly changed his expression and said, "Hey, eat it already!" (Be sure to eat quickly, as dawdling can make him angry.) "It's fine to take pictures of the food, but don't take pictures of my face," he warned. (Be careful, as taking pictures of Masachan's face or hands can make him angry.) "I like people who eat with gusto. Those who eat quietly can leave!" So everyone exaggeratedly praised the food. It was really delicious! "Don't flatter the customers. Only let in the ones I like," he said, the opposite of "the customer is god." "Hey, watch my way of life," he said this line repeatedly. I remember having a troublesome boss who said the same thing in the past. He really is as rumored. And I don't know what might set him off, so it's best not to talk too much. Here, newcomers can only eat quietly while listening to the banter between regular customers and Masachan. Now, let's talk about the food. Basically, they serve hormone (offal) and hardly any regular meat. And this hormone is incredibly delicious. They wash the offal multiple times, making it white and clean. The tongue, tripe, and Akase (he called it the fourth stomach, so it's probably the reticulum) have an incredibly rich flavor. The tripe is surprisingly tender and flavorful, completely changing my image of tough and bland tripe. The heart is served with kimchi, and the combination is excellent. (Be careful, as taking pictures of the food or Masachan's face can make him angry.) "Customers who eat with gusto are welcome. Those who eat quietly can leave!" So everyone exaggeratedly praised the food. It was really delicious!
