Opened in Tokyo's Aoyama district, Gari Get is a popular bakery known for its Millfeuille pastry sandwich called Milpresse. I had seen it featured on TV before and as a fan of Millfeuille, I was eager to try it. I had known there was a store in Osaka and had been wanting to go for over a year, but finally got the chance to visit. The shop is always crowded with people lining up, and this time was no exception. I arrived just before opening and there were already about 10 groups waiting. Despite the wait, I was excited to finally enter the shop. The menu offers a variety of options, including the ability to order two different flavors at once with a half & half option. There was also a tempting option for custard lovers like myself, offering only custard cream, but I decided to go with the classic combination of strawberry and custard cream in a Napoleon. After placing my order, I was able to watch them make the pastry. Photography of the staff's faces or any identifiable features was not allowed, but I was permitted to take photos of the process. It was enjoyable to watch them work! Before I knew it, my Napoleon Milpresse was ready. There were tables and chairs outside the shop where you could sit and enjoy your pastry if available. I couldn't wait, so I quickly took a seat and dug in. The pastry was crispy and flaky, incredibly delicious! With a generous amount of butter, it had a rich and fragrant taste. The smooth custard cream had a distinct eggy aroma and a refined sweetness. It wasn't too runny, but had a firm consistency that lingered on the palate, complementing the flavors of the strawberry and pastry. The fresh strawberries were sweet and tangy, pairing perfectly with the pastry and cream. Their refreshing acidity balanced out the overall sweetness, creating a harmonious blend of flavors. Each ingredient was of high quality, and the overall balance was impeccable. However, the portion size was quite substantial, and towards the end, it felt a bit heavy. Personally, I think it would be more manageable if it were a bit smaller and at a lower price. Despite the wait, the delicious and beautiful pastries are definitely worth it. I look forward to trying the custard-only option next time, but hopefully without the long line...
