Kyushu Travel Diary ~ A Tale of Mountain Shaved Ice ~ I actually love shaved ice, not just in the summer, but all year round. While doing research for my trip, I checked out dessert places that serve shaved ice, and I came across this shop. However, it seemed a bit out of the way, and with so many places I wanted to visit and limited time, I had to prioritize. I had planned to visit "Shiraito Falls" (which was quite impressive) and then move on to the next destination when I unexpectedly stumbled upon a sign for "Murakami-ke Honpo Shirayuki." "Wait, isn't this the shop I had checked out?" I realized immediately, and I felt like it was a sign, so I decided to pay a visit. The shop is located deep in the mountains, past Shiraito Falls. The road gets narrower and I started to worry if I was going the right way. But I trusted my navigation and eventually arrived. There was nothing around, just the Murakami family's shop. It was a large warehouse-like building. The atmosphere was somewhat rustic yet modern. I bought tickets from the vending machine - they offered various flavors like strawberry milk, matcha, chocolate, and fruit. Since I was in Kyushu, I decided to try the "Amaou" flavor. The shaved ice arrived, and it was indeed fluffy and light, topped with strawberry syrup and red bean paste. However, I couldn't really tell if it was made with "Amaou" strawberries, and while it was fluffy, it didn't quite reach the level of amazingness. The price wasn't particularly cheap either, even though it was in a remote mountain area. I didn't have to wait in line today, but if there had been a long wait, I might have had second thoughts. I've been exploring famous shaved ice spots in Gifu, Nagoya, Kyoto, Nara, and Osaka, so maybe I've become a bit picky. On my way out, I received a "water fortune" fortune slip as a service. I dipped it in the spring water outside, and mysterious characters appeared. When I read the message, it said "Good luck" - just average. It seems like there won't be any obstacles in my travels, so I'll take it as a good sign. The journey continues...
