*Located on a small alley on the right side of the back street of Dormy Inn, just a short walk from Otaru Station. *Among Otaru lunches, this place offers a high volume and great value for money. Free rice refills and a choice of daily side dishes make it enjoyable. There are around 10 lunch options, mostly around ¥700. *Please check their Instagram for any temporary closures. *No parking available. *Lunch drinking is allowed. *Smoking is allowed. *Counter seating and raised tatami seating available. *At night, it turns into an izakaya. Mother's house lunch after a long time~! My sister was so happy because she had wanted to try it for a long time~! First, shall we start with the choice of small dishes to go with our drinks! Me -> boiled egg & chicken liver with highball Sister -> gizzards and marinated egg with non-alcoholic beer (she's the designated driver, lol) Mmm, as delicious as always! Everything is delicious! Sharing with two people makes it even more enjoyable, right? [Katsu-toji Nabe] It was actually a hot pot! I got so excited! When you lift the lid... it's piping hot and melty delicious! Soooo delicious♪ Freshly fried cutlets, fluffy eggs, my favorite flavors! Such a huge portion! We couldn't stop eating both the alcohol and rice! (We ended up getting a rice refill, lol) Lots of salad too♪ Small dishes and miso soup are also included... my belly was so happy and full, it was too much happiness, lol. I think Dad would like it too, so I'll check Instagram for the Katsu-toji Nabe and take him there♪ [Beef Tendon Curry] My sister ordered this one that piqued her interest! Actually, the Aladdin magic lamp container!! My excitement goes up when it comes out of this silver one♪ Plus, the beef tendon is so tender and delicious! (I stole a bite, lol) Seriously, both of us were so happy and full, it was amazing! It might be intimidating to go in for the first time, but I really want everyone to try their lunch at this place. (Rice refills are free♪) Check out their weekly menu on Instagram♪ I was also healed by the smiles of my mom and dad, who are always lovey-dovey! Thank you for the meal♪ I'll also post the pictures from the last time I had lunch here♪ The chicken tomato stew was also so delicious! The portion was crazy!

Visit date April 16, 2023. Before the meeting, it was suggested to have a quick drink with 5 people visiting. We arrived at 6:00 pm and are also looking forward to a sushi course later, so this is just a quick 40-minute drink. We sat in a raised area in the back, toasted with beer and shochu. However, one drink is not enough for everyone, right? (laughs) How many drinks will we have with the appetizer and one dish! (laughs) Well, they are interesting people (laughs). Next time, we will come to enjoy homemade dishes slowly. Thank you for the meal.

Visited Inaho in Otaru in October 2022 for the first time. Found a lunch sign on a narrow street called Yanagawa-dori near Otaru Station. This place is known for being a "senbero izakaya," where you can drink from 12:00 on weekends and 15:00 on weekdays. However, they also offer lunch on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Fridays from 11:00 to 14:00. The kitchen is run by a relatively young man who is actually the husband of the owner. He used to work in the kitchen at a restaurant and now takes charge of the lunch menu. The evening izakaya is managed by the owner and her son. The husband of the owner is very friendly. I ordered the "katsutoji nabe teishoku" for 700 yen. The katsu is freshly fried on the spot and then simmered with egg topping. It was delicious and flavorful. You can choose two side dishes from a selection of five. I chose the "shiitake mushroom omelette" and "garlic stir-fried sandfish." Rice can be refilled for free, and miso soup and salad are included. After finishing my meal, three elderly ladies who seemed to be regulars came in. Otaru seems to be a town with many elderly residents. I noticed the "Ore Series" on the izakaya menu, which looks interesting. I'll have to come back for drinks in the evening as well.

Mom's House (Kaachan-chi) in Otaru Station area has several dining options, but when you're looking for a lunch set, you might wonder if such a place exists. Mom's House is the answer to that. Priced at 700 yen, you can choose from 4 main dishes, such as chicken tomato stew, simmered hamburger, grilled salmon belly, and beef tendon curry. You also get to pick 2 side dishes, like seasoned egg, pumpkin stew, cheese-grilled chicken, spinach with sesame dressing, or konjac stew. Rice is served in large portions and refills are free. The meal includes hot miso soup, salad, and pickles. I chose the grilled salmon belly, seasoned egg, and cheese-grilled chicken. The salmon belly was perfectly salted and grilled, and the side dishes complemented the meal well. I ended up getting a rice refill because it was so delicious. All this for just 700 yen including tax, making it a great value. Mom's House is a 2-3 minute walk from the Otaru Station crossing. It's a cozy izakaya with a wide selection of drinks and salmon dishes. Day drinking is allowed, but be respectful to the staff and other customers to avoid being asked to leave. Enjoy your meal!

I have been hooked on Otaru drinking since last month. It's a 3-minute walk from Otaru Station. This is a place where you can drink during the day starting from 12 o'clock. The mother figure there really feels like a mom. I was planning to go on a bar crawl so I didn't eat much. I decided to just order something from the "my something series" that has a lot of novelty to it. The son made it for me. It arrived after a few minutes and I was satisfied. I won't go into details, just go there and try it yourself. Or read other reviews. There are other interesting notices posted inside the shop. The mother and son are both friendly and loved by the locals.

I met a man in his thirties at a local spot in Otaru, and we reunited at a restaurant he wanted to visit called "Okaasan-ya." He was surprised to find out that Okaasan-ya was a place where you could drink during the day, located in a back alley closest to Otaru Station. We started with a toast with Hoppy, and the appetizer was scallop with white and red roe, a delicious side dish to accompany the drinks. The conversation was lively, and we got distracted from the food, but he was amazed by the special naming of the dishes at Okaasan-ya. He ordered "My Agochin" and "My Kintama," which turned out to be fried tofu and kimchi with egg baked in a heart-shaped dish, respectively. He seemed pleased with the food, and it made me happy to see him enjoying it. He wasn't familiar with the song "Kinta's Big Adventure" by Tsuboy Norio. He ordered more Hoppy as he had a high tolerance for alcohol, and I added a little more for myself. We also had "Mother's G-cup Bra" made with brandy and ginger ale, along with grilled edamame and pork belly omelette. The grilled edamame had a unique blend of spicy and sweet flavors, while the pork belly omelette was a reasonably priced dish that was neither exceptionally good nor bad, but just right. Okaasan-ya is a cozy spot where people of all ages gather, and even someone like me with a low spending capacity can enjoy. It's just the right size for a place in Otaru where everyone can nod in agreement while enjoying the food. Feeling good, we headed to his friend's restaurant. Thank you for the meal. We were bid farewell by Mother's son, and we said our goodbyes and thank yous.

I'm drinking alone in Otaru in the light rain... it's still just past 4 pm but I enter "Okaachan Ie" from the back alley. The place is dimly lit and there are already customers inside. I sit at the counter in front of the TV and order a beer for 480 yen (Classic) and a small dish set for 300 yen, which includes kimchi, bamboo shoot with mayo, and simmered lotus root, konjac, and carrot. I also add a dish of pickled mackerel for 450 yen. It's served after being thawed in the microwave, which is a bit disappointing. I switch to sake, choosing "Urakasumi" from the menu. There are some dishes with funny names on the menu (check the photo for details), and the staff encourage you to order them loudly and clearly, but that's impossible for me to do alone. I can't even order if I don't know what the dish is. It might be fun to go with a group of people and drunkenly shout out those funny dish names. The cozy atmosphere of the place is nice. Thank you for the meal.

Today was a substitute holiday for working on a holiday. The temperature was 0 degrees. In the rain and snow, I rode my bike, which served as my clogs, to go out for lunch. It's only about a 3-minute ride from my house, but the wetness and cold on the bike were my limit~ I headed to "Mother's House". I was thinking of having omurice. Excuse me~ From my mother, I was told that there was no food today. Tomorrow, Thursday, is a regular holiday so I didn't cook any food, she said. So, no omurice. She said there was noodles, so I ordered the Napolitan. At Mother's House, the Napolitan is the type where it's served on a hot plate instead of a plate, so I asked for a raw egg to be spread on the hot plate for me, even though it was a bit selfish of me. In my student days in Gifu and Nagoya, this was the style of Napolitan. I always used to make it because I liked it. The acidity of the ketchup becomes mellow with the egg~. But today's Napolitan had too much ketchup, maybe? One egg wasn't enough. For today's Napolitan, it should be two eggs (laughs). The Napolitan at Mother's House had a lot of ingredients and was satisfying to eat. Mother's House doesn't have a lunch menu, but my stomach is satisfied. It's basically an izakaya, so there are probably more customers drinking at lunchtime. It's the alleyway izakaya closest to Otaru Station. Thank you for the meal.

This is Otaru. I had a meeting on my day off, and I arrived late for the off-meeting. It's been a while since I got off at Otaru Station, but it has changed, hasn't it? It may not be as spacious as Asahikawa, but it cleverly matches the old and the new, and it's a decent size. When you cross the signal and walk along the narrow path, you will find my mother's house. Everyone is gathered there. There were two people meeting for the first time! Everyone is lively at the second place we went to. First, I ordered a drink called "Mother's Bra G Cup"! The name is funny, isn't it? In the end, it just comes in a round glass... haha. The vulgar menu names are intriguing, right? The food was not unusual, but it was homely and delicious! I wanted to try the curry rice that the lady at the counter was eating. I had a little bit of omelette rice, Neapolitan, yakitori, kushikatsu, and other dishes. I enjoyed them all. It cost about 1,700 yen per person! This is a hidden gem worth revisiting! haha. Thank you for the meal! I was about to leave Otaru as I have something to do tomorrow, but I was kidnapped... To be continued...

From my reviewer, a message that the Sapporo reviewers are planning a tour to Otaru. The plan is to start with unlimited drinks from noon at a place and continue until the last train (departing from Otaru at 11:10 pm), which is an incredible plan for someone like me who can't drink. Due to family obligations, I could only join in the evening. When I asked the organizer where to meet everyone, they replied, "We are heading to my mom's house for a reservation." I was surprised to hear that the Sapporo reviewers were using a rare (?) restaurant in Otaru. What amazing energy... About 10 people gathered, exceeding the capacity of the private room, so we had to set up tables ourselves in the hall. Cheers! But here we have the sad reality of food reviewers. Instead of chanting "Cheers!", everyone is more focused on taking photos of the moment of the toast, starting with the pictures. The scene of taking photos when the food arrives is quite unusual for the regular customers sitting at the counter. Some menu items that caught my attention: Drinks - Mother's Bra G Cup: Brandy with ginger ale. Is Mother really a G cup? - Kappa Shochu: Shochu with cucumber. It's a shochu highball that tastes like cucumber, of course. - Napolin Sour: A can with 5% alcohol made from Hokkaido's famous soft drink "Ribbon Napolin". It's not juice. Food - We mainly ordered shareable skewers. Pork skewers, motsu skewers, skewered cutlets, and a huge chicken thigh skewer. The huge chicken thigh skewer is really big and satisfying to eat. The salt and pepper are just right. - Teppan Napolitan: A staple menu item at Mother's House. Napolitan served on a hot iron plate. Before eating, everyone fell silent and started taking photos. Definitely suspicious. - Omelette Rice: A cafeteria-style omelette rice. A firm omelette skin with chicken ketchup rice inside. The color contrast of the egg white and yolk on the omelette skin is nice. Mother's House has some menu items that seem borderline inappropriate. The "Ore no" series. The name is inspired by the song "Ore no Otaru" by Yujiro Ishihara, who spent his childhood in Otaru. Some items from the series include: - Ore no Tamagoyaki - Ore no Cheese Sen - Ore no Nori Cheese - Ore no Hastama - Ore no Nameru - Ore no Agechin - Ore no Kintama Among these, the female members accompanying us loudly ordered from the "Ore no" series. - Ore no Nori Cheese: Not Nori P. Cheese sandwiched between nori and cheese slices. Let's dig in! - Ore no Agechin: It seems to be fried tofu microwaved. The charred edges are nice. I think it's good. - Ore no Kintama: Was it egg and kimchi? Kim Tamago is good! - Ore no Mokkori: Steamed? Garlic. Will it make you "mokkori"? It was a series that Norio Tsu-boi would like to try. The price is reasonable. It doesn't feel luxurious, but it doesn't feel cheap either. Just delicious. This place is right near Otaru Station, exuding a deep, alley-like feel, a true hidden gem of a restaurant. As winter approaches, it will be buried in snow, but inside the restaurant is an oasis of G cups. (I don't understand the meaning.) Thank you for the meal.

Otaru Day Drinking Meetup 2nd Stop (o’∀`)♪ After starting at 12pm, we spent 5 hours at the first bar for day drinking. When we stepped outside, it was already getting dark, the days are getting shorter and it feels a bit lonely ( ´-ω-) We found a cozy little izakaya near JR Otaru Station in a back alley with a run-down atmosphere. The menu names were quite funny, appealing to my inner child haha. I wanted to check this place out. The counter seemed like a regular spot for the locals, so we squeezed into a small raised seating area at the back. It was a bit cramped, but I liked the vibe. I couldn't handle any more carbonated drinks, so I went for an oolong highball. They had funny menu items like "Mom's A-cup" and "G-cup" haha. For food, we had the "My Series" dishes made by Ryouma, which we couldn't resist ordering for the novelty. When we ordered, we did so loudly and clearly haha. We got "My Balls" (kimchi with fried egg and cheese), "My Fried Thing" (just fried food), "My Bulge" (garlic roasted as is), and "My Nori Cheese" (seaweed and cheese sprinkled on top). It would have been better if they used Korean seaweed though. We also ordered omurice and spaghetti for our hungry friends who joined us after work. The dishes had a homely flavor and were delicious. We also had yakitori and bonito tataki. The bill came out to about 1800 yen per person, which was quite reasonable for the cozy atmosphere and good food. They open at 12pm, so I'll definitely come back for some day drinking next time ♡ Thanks for the meal (^ω^)

I met up with local reviewers at my mother's house in Otaru. There were 10 of us dining and drinking here. We tried a sake called Kamikazura, which seemed to have a hint of boxed sake flavor. Then we had Kappa shochu, which was a bit challenging to eat with cucumber that tasted like shochu. I probably should have chosen a different drink, but I still ate a lot of cucumber because it's important to have raw vegetables. We also tried some unique dishes with interesting names like "My Agetchin," "My Mokkori," and "My Kintama." These dishes were surprisingly tasty despite their unusual names. We also ordered "My Nori Cheese," which was seaweed topped with sliced cheese. The Omu-rice and Chicken rice were both delicious, with tender chicken. The bonito tataki was recommended that day and was a tasty dish with sliced garlic and onions. The chicken and pork skewers were large and satisfying. The assorted skewers were also enjoyable, especially the lotus root. Overall, it was an interesting and fun izakaya experience in Otaru. Rating: 3.2 Taste, 3.2 Service, 3.3 Atmosphere, 3.2 Cost performance, 2.9 Drinks. Location: 3-7-11 Inaho, Otaru, Hokkaido. Mama-chan's House ☆☆☆ Stay tuned for more adventures in Otaru's vibrant nightlife!

After enjoying plenty of Otaru beer and having a good time, I was taken to a local, quirky shop by my friends. The counter with about 8 seats was already full, so we had to sit in the back in a small raised area with only 8 seats available. The temperature inside seemed to be over 28 degrees Celsius, it was quite hot. The customers here must have a high tolerance for heat, as they didn't seem bothered by it at all. I couldn't handle the heat and had to ask the staff to open a nearby window. When a slender woman sitting in the back came to sit next to me seeking some relief from the heat, I noticed sweat pouring down her face. By the way, who is that man sitting at the very back of the raised area, who has been there since the beginning? Is he the owner of the shop? He's only talking to one member of our group... Is he not planning to leave even when our group is complete? Suddenly, the man who had been speaking quietly at the back introduced himself to the group, saying, "Nice to meet you, I'm ◯◯." Wait, he's not the owner, but that ◯◯? Oh my... Well, nice to meet you then! We tried various dishes, but the standout items were the omurice and the large skewers of yakitori. I also noticed a woman at the counter eating a huge chicken curry that looked delicious, so I decided to order it, but it was sold out! "It's a curry that we reserved from yesterday!" the owner explained. I was so disappointed. And to make matters worse, the sashimi of shishamo that another customer was eating was also sold out! I was really frustrated! I will definitely come back here again!

The lunch started at 12 o'clock and ended at 5 o'clock. Then what came next was this. Honestly... I couldn't understand why I was here. And the menu orders were... My bulge... garlic, My seaweed cheese... cheese and seaweed topping, My Agetchin... fried and grilled, My Kintama = fried egg and kimchi cheese... What kind of place is this! I couldn't have imagined it from the appearance of the store. And the drinks... Mom's G-cup bra! Sake tokkuri with Seiryoku instead of vitality, Kappa shochu, Napolitan sour... What kind of existence is that! But if you're not from Hokkaido, you wouldn't even know what Napolitan is. And so on... What a place! Ah, I drank, ate, and laughed here too. It was already past 7 o'clock, the end of Act 2. And the feast of this day continued on...

Otaru Station is nearby, just a short walk from the main street in front of the station. I visited this place after reading a great article about exploring Otaru on a Sapporo lunch blog. The restaurant is known for serving drinks starting from lunchtime. I arrived around 5:00 PM and there were a few customers already there, with one person who seemed quite tipsy. I ordered a draft beer in a classic mug. The appetizers included three different dishes, which was nice. I also tried the "Taruko Set" which included octopus sausage and fried shumai with vegetables. The sausage was from Maruhahonshokai in Otaru, and the fried shumai was from Tamaya Shokuhin. The fried shumai had a unique shape and brought back nostalgic memories. I also ordered a Japanese sake called "Kamitachi." The owner's relative used to make sake at Shiraikata Shuzo in Otaru. I had a great time chatting with the regular customers who were very friendly. It's a cozy izakaya where nice regulars gather. Thank you for the wonderful meal.

Due to heavy rain, I took a taxi from Otaru Warehouse to Mom-chan's house (^O^). The taxi driver seemed unsure of the location, so he asked over the radio, "Where is Mom-chan's house?? Is it next to the eye clinic??" After a funny exchange, we finally arrived at 3:30 PM. There was one regular customer already there. I sat at the counter, glanced at the menu, and confidently ordered, "I'll have Mom-chan's G-cup please (≧∇≦)" If I had said that in the wrong place, I would have probably been reported to the police (lol). I should have checked the menu properly. Mom-chan's G-cup turned out to be a brandy with ginger ale, which was surprisingly delicious. The rounded bottom of the glass made me imagine a G-cup (^O^). I was already a bit tipsy, so I didn't feel embarrassed no matter what I ordered (lol). Next, I asked Ryouma-san, who was making my tamagoyaki, for "Agetchin!" When I asked what that was, he said it's when you "chin" the "age" (lol). Well, it's only 200 yen (^O^) I'll save my "kin tama" and "mokkori" for the next reviewer. By the way, I don't recommend the original highball mix, Hoisu (≧∇≦). The regular highball is tastier (≧∇≦). The first things I tried were Hashimoto's wiener and Tamaya's fried shumai. I'm not sure about the wiener, but the fried shumai seemed like just fish cake, yet it was strangely delicious. I ended up buying some from Nagasaki-ya on my way home (´▽` )ノ I had a nice chat with the regular customer and both Mom-chan and Ryouma-san were really nice, making it a great atmosphere. I'll definitely go back if I have the chance. My wife is away, so these past two days have felt like a kite with a broken string, but it's time to head back home now. It seems I can't quite get into a good mood without someone pushing me (lol). I had two bottles of wine secretly when I got back, but tomorrow, if the weather is clear, I'll head to Hakodate with the pedal to the metal (^O^)

A few minutes' walk from Otaru Station is Mom's House, located in an alley. I revisited after 5 years and found that the menu had expanded, with flavors that had improved. We ended up chatting past closing time, but there are plenty of local and creative dishes to enjoy. Recently, even foreigners have been visiting through a Chinese version of Yelp. The friendly mama who runs the place will take good care of you. Definitely worth a visit!

A shop where surprisingly many regular customers gather. One by one, the counter quickly fills up. The home-cooked dishes are nostalgic and all delicious. However, not suitable for those who want to relax alone. It's a lively shop where everyone is having fun and chatting. The beer comes in a frozen glass and is nice and cold.

Otaru's Mother's House. You enter from Yanagawa Street to Nakakoji Street. It's an izakaya, but it's open during the daytime. However, it closes at 10 p.m. It's a well-behaved izakaya. The menu is rich with food options. I ordered the Spaghetti Napolitan. The ketchup was lighter than expected. Try adding Tabasco to make it your own Napolitana. It might go well as a side dish with alcohol. The drink menu has some unique options. I wonder what a Gari Gari Sour is like. If you win, you get another one, so they must be using Gari Gari kun itself. I'd like to try that. It seems like a fun place. It's a good izakaya near Otaru Station. This seems like a place worth trying. Thank you for the meal.

Welcome! ┌¬o"* * * 2014.12 ↓From Inaho District Station in Otaru City, head south and then north on the alley before Happy, turn left at the side road before Yamaan, and you will find a seemingly closed shop with a hanging curtain, but it's actually open. Inside the shop, there is a counter and a raised area in the back, like a grandmother's kitchen. Looking from the side, the lady inside looks a bit like Kondo Kuniko, or maybe not? I heard you can drink from noon, but the elderly customers are already a bit tipsy. Apologies for intruding with a bow. I forgot to mention that the "Grandma's Bra G-cup" is a brandy ginger drink, which would have been a good choice. The beer at 3 pm is great. New menu items keep coming out, making it hard to decide on a dish. The chicken tempura at an izakaya is rare and delicious. The crispy coating is light and the meat is juicy and flavorful. The generous salad with plenty of lettuce and vegetables is a nice touch. The sauce, with its mild sweetness and saltiness, is easy to enjoy. The Negi-filled tamagoyaki is fluffy and moist, with a hint of sweetness and lots of green onions. The TV is on, and chatting with the lady about various topics is a pleasant way to pass the time. She also kindly provided detailed information on evening activities. Thank you for the meal. ===========
