Summer vacation in 2023. Before climbing to the top of Tsutenkaku, I decided to have a meal. I searched for restaurants in the area and all that came up were kushikatsu places, kushikatsu places, and more kushikatsu places... Oh! I found a sushi restaurant. And it's right below Tsutenkaku, so it's easy to find. I entered around noon on August 16th, during the peak of the Obon holiday. There were a few sushi chefs standing behind the counter to welcome me. It's been a while since I had non-conveyor belt sushi, so I was excited. I looked at the menu and thought for a while. The couple next to me was having Chirashi sushi. It looked delicious and quite generous for 900 yen. But I stuck to my original plan and ordered the sushi set for 1900 yen. I also wanted to try the tempura at this place. I started with the tempura before it got cold. Hmm! Freshly fried. I enjoyed it with salt. Shrimp, green pepper, sweet potato, and more. Each one had the natural flavor of the ingredients. Then I tried 2-3 pieces of nigiri sushi. They were not fishy at all and the deliciousness of each fish spread in my mouth as I chewed. I saved the rest of the nigiri for the last enjoyment and moved on to the Hassun (assorted appetizers). There was even eel on it. It was also delicious. The tempura, nigiri sushi, Hassun - each dish was carefully prepared. The quality matched the price of 1900 yen. It was a satisfying meal. Thank you for the feast.

There are many delicious options in Osaka's Shinsekai. When working in Shinsekai, I always struggle with what to have for lunch. This time, I went to "Rokusen" located right under Tsutenkaku Tower. They have a lot of lunch menu options, but I always order this one: Chirashi sushi (with red miso soup or udon) for 900 yen. The toppings are fresh and varied. I was so hungry that I finished the sushi before the udon arrived, so I forgot to take a picture. The egg and seaweed underneath the toppings add a nice touch. If you ever visit Shinsekai, be sure to check it out!

There is a wonderful restaurant at the foot of Tsutenkaku Tower. I happened to find it while passing by, and it had caught my eye before. They offer various Japanese dishes, not just sushi. The sashimi platter, boiled conger eel, horse mackerel tempura, eel yoshikawa, and spicy cod roe were all delicious. The eel yoshikawa was particularly outstanding, with thinly sliced burdock on top that was easier to eat than a toothpick. When I had eaten half of it, I couldn't help but think, "I want to eat this on top of white rice." After a short wait, I finally encountered some amazing white rice. The fluffy rice was served in a bowl just as fluffy, and it was truly impressive. When I ate it with the eel yoshikawa on top, it was just amazing. Oh yes, it was even more delicious than I had imagined. In the end, I couldn't even make it to the sushi. The guy next to me at the counter was enjoying a large seafood bowl, nigiri sushi, and a thick rolled sushi, so it must have been really good. Next time, I'll try the sushi. As expected! It's a fish market. The sushi was thick and delicious, and I was satisfied. The rice was soft and just right. The eggplant miso dengaku with two types of miso and the soft eggplant was like a gratin and delicious. The pickled ginger and green tea were also delicious.

I visited the restaurant in search of sushi. It was close to 2pm but there was a decent amount of customers. They had a touch panel for ordering, but you could also order verbally if needed. It was a hot day, so I appreciated that they served tea with ice. They had a variety of dishes like sushi, sashimi, grilled items, and tempura. There were tanks with abalone, turban shells, and other shellfish swimming in front of the counter. The menu had a lot of options, and the daily recommendations were listed on a blackboard. The abalone sashimi was fresh and delicious, with a nice texture and even came with liver. The salted squid was flavorful without being too fishy. The boiled eel sushi and grilled eel liver were also tasty. The sushi was small and easy to eat, and you could order just one piece at a time. The ingredients were fresh and the portions were generous. The soy sauce for sashimi was a bit strong, but overall the food was great. They had a wide selection of sake, and I enjoyed a glass of Himezen. I was also delighted to find my favorite dessert, namamaki. The total bill for two people was only 4950 yen, which was surprisingly affordable considering the quality of food and service. Overall, I was very satisfied with this restaurant.

We started with a highball toast and carefully looked over the menu. We ordered my favorite conger eel with doteyaki and the rumored delicious tear sushi. The conger eel arrived, but it wasn't fresh! The doteyaki was tasty though. The tear sushi was okay, the rice was a bit off. We then ordered iced sake with large shrimp and salmon. The iced sake was refreshing and delicious. The large shrimp was firm and the salmon was tasty. I'll have my friend's colleague file a complaint.

Osaka: I visited this sushi restaurant located below the Shin-Imamiya Tsutenkaku on a weekday, yet the place was full of customers, many of whom were foreign tourists. Despite the ongoing impact of the coronavirus, the atmosphere is gradually returning, which is great news for restaurants. The "seafood bowl" and "sushi" I had were delicious and satisfying, exceeding their price. The chawanmushi and red miso soup had comforting flavors that warmed my body. I now understand why this place is so popular. With its excellent location, it seems like this restaurant will continue to thrive. I would love to visit again if given the chance. Being directly operated by a fishery wholesaler means they have access to market routes and direct delivery from the source. The food was so delicious that I ended up eating too much. Rokusen Tsutenkaku Honten, located right in front of the iconic Tsutenkaku Tower in Osaka, is a must-visit! I went around 2 PM and the place was bustling with customers. The sushi prepared at the counter was delicious and the chef's demeanor was very pleasant. They also have table seating to accommodate groups, which explains why it's so popular. I tried the chef's choice sushi, including bonito, swordfish, shrimp, yellowtail, squid, and green onion. Everything was delicious, especially the green onion which I had never tried before. The tempura assortment was also great, with large, juicy shrimp tempura. The chef was very friendly, making it a truly wonderful dining experience. It is known for being cheap and delicious! I visited for lunch today. - Chirashi Sushi 850 yen (tax included) A chirashi sushi with a variety of toppings including tuna, sea bream, squid, cured mackerel, salmon, eel, and minced fatty tuna. - Nigiri Assortment (pine) 1,990 yen (excluding tax) A luxurious assortment of nigiri sushi with sea urchin, salmon roe, crab, and herring roe as the main toppings. - Whale Cutlet 3 pieces 390 yen Recommended by the restaurant, this whale cutlet is a refined and tender dish. - Assorted Tempura with Shrimp and Vegetables 800 yen Two shrimp and plenty of vegetable tempura for only 800 yen. The restaurant seemed busy with many customers. The location right under Tsutenkaku Tower is great. I made a reservation through Tabelog, but it seemed like the staff didn't check online reservations much. They had seats available, but I felt a bit rushed. It's like a sushi restaurant meets izakaya, so you can enjoy a variety of dishes. They also have an English menu, which would be great for foreign visitors. The restaurant next door, Daruma, still had a line even after 9 o'clock.

I had the "Jou Nigiri Teishoku" at the sushi restaurant "Rokusen Tsutenkaku Honten". This place is directly managed by a seafood wholesaler, so you can enjoy delicious sushi at a reasonable price. Located right in front of Tsutenkaku, this place is popular with tourists, especially inbound visitors. The "Jou Nigiri Teishoku" includes 8 pieces of nigiri sushi, rolled sushi, and a choice of red miso soup or mini udon. The sushi consisted of seared fatty tuna, squid, salmon, yellowtail, shrimp, eel, mackerel, salmon roe, and a seafood roll. All of this for 1100 yen, so I think it's a great deal. The sushi was delicious and the rice was well-prepared. The Jou Nigiri Teishoku was so tasty!
